When Dean and Sam were young and Sam was sick Dean would do anything and everything he could to to cheer his miserable brother up. He'd watch sappy chick flicks, and eat salad with Sammy. He'd do nearly anything for his brother.
Once when Sam was sick he locked himself away in his room at the motel they were living in for the month. Dean tried and tried to get Sam to let him in. He wanted to take care of Sam it was his job, and it had been his job ever since Sam had been born.
Sam refused to let Dean or anyone else in, he felt as though he was a burden to everyone he was around. Especially when he was sick, therefore he refused to take anyone's help even in his most desperate times of need.
Dean was tired of Sam refusing help when,he was sick or couldn't do something. Dean knew Sam was big now, and he felt as though he could do everything, but Dean didn't want him growing up. He didn't want Sam to grow up. He quite enjoyed Sam's childlike innocence.
As Dean pounded on the door Sam got annoyed and unlocked it, allowing Dean in even if he didn't want him babying him like he always did when he was sick or hurt. He asked if Sam needed anything or if he could do anything for him. He was old enough now he could do it on his own. He didn't need his big brother babysitting him all the time.
Dean didn't do anything though, he lay down with Sam in his bed and looked up at the ceiling. He seen shaped and animals made up of the swirling pattern, and he knew he could make a game out of it.
"Hey, Sam, I see a monkey," he said as he pointed to a particular spot on the ceiling.
He heard Sam giggle as the boy replied, "and I see a horse," referring to the same spot.
They giggled and laughed as they made constellations out of the bumps and swirls of the ceiling in which they lay under. They always seemed to make games out of nothing. They'd spend hours on things they made up.
"Look, there's a dog!" Dean yelled aloud pointing up at the ceiling.
"And there's a face," Sam said pointing to the corner of the room.
They laughed some more, as they found more and more hidden animals in the ceiling. They found what looked to be the Leo symbol and a mermaid as well.
They played and made jokes until they fell asleep hours later. When they awoke they couldn't remember where the things they found were located. Dean started listening to Sam about being sick and Sam let Dean help when it was necessary.
It was one of the brother happier moments they shared when they were younger. One apart from the life they lived. Whenever they had a particularly hard time that's what they always went back too.
