Late Departed
When Jody Mills arrived, ready for vacation, she found instead an agitated Sheriff Donna Hanscum in full-uniform. "Why aren't you ready?"
Donna had practically worn a groove in the carpet from her pacing. "It's my late ex-husband," she cried, shaking with emotion.
"Sweetheart, I'm so sorry for your loss," said Jody, shamefaced. Somewhat at a loss, she offered the last of her powdered donuts. If you'd tasted 'em, you'd understand.
"The jerk's late for his shift, not dead..." said Donna, demolishing the pastry in two angry bites. She hefted her machete. "Although... how's about we start our road-trip with him?"
