"You are my sunshine, my only sunshine,"
Their fingers laced together and he closed the distance between them. He then kissed her nose absentmindly, thinking that she tasted a bit like chocolate. And strawberries. Probably because she ate sweets all the time. If she doesn't watch herself she might get a cavity, he thought. Because he was the type to worry about little things like that, sort of like a mother hen. Except mother hens didn't go around kissing their baby chicks.
She giggled and brushed a few strands of bubblegum pink hair out of her face. "Izumi..." she whispered, as she snuggled closer to him. He smiled and traced her jaw with one slender finger, which caused a faint blush to dust her face.
"You make me happy, when times are gray,"
He tipped her chin back and kissed her again. He tastes like black coffee and oranges, she thought, as she closed her eyes and leaned into the sweet kiss. When they broke apart, he whispered, "I love you, Meroko." His voice was devoid of the usual harshness, instead it sounded kind and gentle.
"I love you, too." She smiled up at him and his breath caught in his throat. She was just so beautiful, inside and out. Neither of them could think of anywhere else they'd rather be.
"You'll never know, dear, how much I love you,"
He buried his face in her soft tresses, relishing this peaceful moment in their otherwise hectic lives. He hadn't ever noticed before, but she smelled like roses, and the world just after it rains. And maybe just a hint of peppermint, but he wasn't terribly sure about that last one.
"Izumi?"
"Hmmm?"
"We'll be together forever. Right?
"Forever and for always. I won't ever let you go." He pulled her closer (if that was even possible) to emphasize his point.
"So please don't take my sunshine away."
"Good. I don't think I could live without you."
"You aren't alive, Meroko."
"Details, details. You get the point."
He chuckles and ruffled her hair, "Yeah, I get the point."
Truth is, he couldn't live without her, either. If you get the point.
