14th February, the day of love. The day when people openly share their feelings with the one they love. It couldn't have been a more perfect day.
Not a single cloud was to be seen in the sky as the sun beat down on to the tropical islands known as the Destiny Islands. The ultimate paradise for young and old couples alike. Except for one person.
Standing on a beach, the waves lapping at her feet, stood a young red haired female. Every day she could be seen in the same spot, staring into the horizon as if waiting for someone or something.
Releasing a sigh the teenager sat down on the soft sand, still staring off into the distance.
"I wish you were here," she sighed, closing her eyes. Opening them again she reached into her pocket and pulled out a worn picture. In the picture was a teenaged boy, his eyes as blue as the clearest sky, his shimmering brown hair standing up in unnatural gravity defying spikes.
"I miss you Sora," her eyes welled up with water and cascaded down her face to soak into her pink dress. "Today more than ever. It's been two years without you, but I'll wait for as long as it takes for you to return to me."
The day slowly passed, yet no one came near Kairi as no one knew what to say to the girl. No one knew what had happened to the lively brunette that had mysteriously disappeared a few years ago. Although many missed his presence none did more than Kairi.
She was his childhood friend and as they grown older it had been obvious to all that they were a perfect couple. But that idea was destroyed along with their world when the heartless invaded. They were reunited eventually but only for them to be separated again.
The glittering waves of the sea turned slowly from bright blue to the orange-red of dusk. Still Kairi sat there gazing out over the unending expanse of water.
The last rays of sunshine disappeared and the sky turned velvety black with thousands of dazzling stars lighting up the sky. Not many knew that each burst of light was actually another world. Glancing up at the sky Kairi allowed a slight smirk to cross her face at the knowledge that she was probably the only one on the islands to know the entire truth about the worlds and the heartless.
"Even in the deepest darkness there is still light," whispered Kairi to the twinkling sky. "No matter how long it takes Sora I will wait. I'll be your light if you ever lose your way."
