John walked Mary down the hall to her next class. John wanted Mary to wear his ring.

"Why won't you go with me?"

"I don't know right now," Mary blushed. "I've just never gone with anyone before."

"Gone steady? Why not?" John asked.

"Nobody asked," Mary shrugged. "And I was waiting for you to ask me."

"And now that I have, you still won't go with me?" John asked with a smirk.

"I want to know you first and know that going stead means the same to each of us."

"You've put some thought into this."

"Yes. I don't take going together lightly."

"Neither do I."

"We'd have to be monogamous, " Mary shyly looked at John, waiting for his response.

"Of course. I only want you anyway."

Mary smiled. "Okay. I will."

"Will what?"

"Go with you. If the offer is still open, that is."

John got a wide grin on his face. He grabbed Mary around her waist and swung her in a circle. "I can't believe you're finally my girl."

"There's no one else I'd go steady with."

John put his arm around Mary possessively and beamed with pride while walked down the hall of the school.
