Naruto sighed as lied down in the ditch that was hidden by grass. He suppressed a laugh as he heard someone run around trying to find him. All of a sudden the footsteps stopped. Naruto held his breath in anticipation as a hand reached through and tagged his back.
Naruto groaned as a laugh sounded. "Found you Naruto!"
Naruto sat up and smiled at the laughing Mitsu. "Yes you did. No one could ever find me when I hide there…"
Mitsu looked confused at Naruto whose gaze trailed off and his face turned to one of sadness. Mitsu did not like seeing others sad or upset. She found that he did that often and even suspected that he was depressed until they met. She figured he needed friend so she was one to Naruto. Though there were times she felt like Naruto was using as a replacement for someone else, like now for example. "Naruto, can we talk?"
Naruto scratched his head. "Sure… what about?"
Mitsu sighed. "Are you feeling… happy?"
Naruto was startled at the question. "Wh-Why?"
Mitsu shook her head. "You just looked sad for a moment, and yes there were other times that you did look sad. Plus, I sometimes feel like you are using me as a replacement…"
Naruto sadly sighed as he sat down underneath the tree and motioned for Mitsu to sit next to him, which she did. "Listen… Mitsu, I am sad, and have been for a very long time."
Mitsu nodded. "Why?"
Naruto stared off in the distance for a moment, before collecting his thoughts. "Seven years ago, my girlfriend Hanabi… died in a car accident because some jerks were street racing. She was 12 and I was 17."
Mitsu was confused. "That's an odd age difference for a couple…"
Naruto nodded. "We didn't care…"
Mitsu noticed and not the first time that Naruto was playing with the necklace he was wearing. "That necklace…"
Naruto felt tears well up in his eyes. "I bought this as gift for her on her 12th birthday. It's called the Lilac Crystal. Hanabi died the very same day. I never took it off since the accident, unless I kept it in a hidden locked box. You see I was originally her tutor when I turned 12 and she turned 7. Fast forward a few years and we were the closest of friends then after an emotional moment, she confessed her feelings, and I accepted them. Our love only grew since. I was a mess when I woke up. There wasn't a single day I was stable emotionally. But after I got out of the hospital, I tried my best to get out and while it helped, I was still depressed for 7 long years. But it was never obvious until her birthday comes around… Mitsu."
Mitsu, who was listening, looked up. "Hm?"
Naruto sadly sighed. "Do you know what day it is?"
Mitsu looked down at the ground. "It's… Hanabi's birthday isn't it?"
Naruto nodded. "Yup, and the day that the jerk who rammed into the car I was driving is getting out today…"
Mitsu's eyes widened. "Wait a second… so you are saying that the guy who is getting released, the guy who is all over the news is the guy who killed your girlfriend?"
Naruto sadly sighed as the tears he fought against won. "Yeah…"
Mitsu then thought about it. "But whenever I see that news piece, they always show that the girl he killed, she looks like me."
Naruto nodded. "Pretty close, but not exactly… but it is close enough where I have to fight my brain every day to tell it that you are not Hanabi. I'm afraid I'm losing the battle." Naruto thought silently. Now she knows the truth… That bastard is getting out in an hour, I need to leave soon. "It was nice seeing you…"
Mitsu was confused once again. "What are you talking about?"
Naruto got up. "I'll… I'll walk you home, it is the least I can do for you before I leave…"
Mitsu's chest tightened. "M-My mother's not home… so I guess its ok, but what do y-you mean leave?"
Naruto shook his head. "Whatever happens, next time you see me… I'm sorry for leaving you and everyone else that I know."
Mitsu became lightheaded. What is he saying by leaving? But he said next time I see him, the only way he could mean by leaving is… "D-Don't kill yourself…"
Naruto sadly smiled. "The only reason I haven't yet is so I can kill the person who killed Hanabi."
Mitsu was shocked at that revelation. "No you won't!"
Naruto sighed. "Where do you live?"
Mitsu stopped walking. "Over here."
Naruto looked down in sadness. "We live next door then. I guess this is… goodbye."
Mitsu shook her head as tears began falling. There was no way she was going to let her friend do something so stupid. "No! I forbid you!"
Naruto pushed Mitsu aside. "I have thought about this for 7 long years and have made up my mind." Oh crap! I forgot, Neji is at school today…
Mitsu's lips began to tremble as tears streaked her face. "But… but…"
Naruto then turned around. "I do have a task for you when I get back from my first deed, would you mind if you wait for me?"
Mitsu shook the tears away. "I'll wait…"
With that, Mitsu slowly walked off.
Naruto smirked at what was to come. Hanabi, you are about to be avenged…
Jonathan looked at the window. 7 long years… 7 long years, and still, I feel like shit. I never will drive a car again. Oh Kami! Why did I do something so fucking stupid!? What I did… I killed little girl. I'm all over the news as well. I'm probably going to get shit till I grow old and die, and I will deserve every word, every threat, every beating that comes my way…
Jon felt himself grabbed led to his assigned house as shouts were heard. He looked up and saw a young man, mid 20's walk up to him with purpose as the two guarding were yelling for him to stop. He recognized this man, the man who was driving the car he hit; he was about 17 then… "Let him walk up to me. Whatever he does to me, don't stop him, I will deserve it…"
His security looked at him. "But… you served your time…"
Jon shook his head in anger. "Even if I rotted in that cell, I still am a piece of shit who killed a little girl because I was fucking stupid, and I'm pretty sure you two agree with that and are wondering why you are stuck guarding the asshole who deserves every punch that comes his way, and you will have stop even though you don't want to because your job calls for it!"
The Security Detail then decided to let the man pass through as he walked up as he began laughing. "So, you recognize me?"
The man in front of Naruto sadly sighed. "Yeah, I do, you were the one driving the car I hit, and you were the one who threatened my life. Whatever you are about to do, I deserve it."
Naruto only smiled at that. "So you recognize this girl?"
Naruto then saw the guilt stricken face as he saw the happiness on the face of the life he took away, the happiness he took away, the daughter, the sister, and the innocent he took away. "Listen man, I know sorry isn't going to take away what I did and ending my life isn't going to take away, but you need solace after 7 long years."
Naruto nodded. "Yes, and I want to know the full name of the man I'm going to kill."
With that statement, the security restrained Naruto, but was signaled down but the man. "Let him kill me, I deserve it… I'm Jonathan Mannix."
Naruto smiled with glee as he was released rather reluctantly by the security. "Naruto Uzumaki."
Jonathan nodded. "Thank you for giving me what I deserve… Naruto…"
Naruto smiled. "You're welcome…" With that, Naruto took out a gun and aimed it at the head of the man before him. "Jonathan." BANG! The security tried to stop Naruto but was unable to restrain him in time as Naruto dropped the gun and ran away.
Mitsu looked worriedly out her window, silently hoping that Naruto would not pull through his decision. She wanted her friend to stay. Some part of her even wanted him to start living with her mother, that way her mom can be happy again and she would have a new dad.
Mitsu snapped out of her thoughts as there was knock on the door. "Who is it?"
There was a pause then she heard, "Its Naruto, I'd like to talk for a moment…"
Mitsu noted the sadness within his voice as she got up and opened the door. "So… did you do it?"
Naruto nodded. "Yeah, I killed him, and while I find some level of relief that the jerk is gone, I also feel guilt about it, but no matter, I have something for you to do."
Mitsu looked into Naruto's eyes. "Alright… What do you want me to do… and is that your car in my driveway?"
Naruto nodded as he began walking to the street. "Yes it is, like I said I wanted to talk when I got back… follow me, we're going to my house, which ironically is next door…"
Mitsu smiled. "That's great! That means you get to visit many times, and you get to meet mommy. She's sad right now, but I hope you get to make her happy, and you can live with us and we all can be happy together!"
Almost all of Naruto's motivations hit the brick wall as he saw the hopeful look on Mitsu's face, but in the back of his mind, he knew that he would go to jail for most of his life. He would be unable to live with her. "I'm so sorry Mitsu, but the police are looking for me. Chances are I'll spend most of my life in jail."
Mitsu smiled. "That's ok, I'll visit you every day, even introduce you to mommy!"
Naruto was about to say something when they were about to enter the house when he heard police sirens coming from down the street. "Dang it! They're onto me!"
Mitsu and Naruto hurried inside, just in time for the police to surround the area. "What did you want me to do?"
Naruto quickly led Mitsu to his room. "This is a note I have written last week."
Mitsu scanned the note and her eyes widened as tear welled up in her face. "Noooo… You really can't be thinking about going through with it…"
Naruto sadly sighed. "I am… Listen, it's been great knowing you and I actually had fun hanging out with you. I smiled and laughed more in the one week I knew you than the 7 long years that I have been waiting to kill this guy."
Mitsu ran into Naruto and wrapped her arms around him. "No, no, no. You can't leave! Your friends will miss you your family will miss you… I will miss you!"
Naruto shook his head as he held the twelve year old as she was holding him. "I will miss them and you as well."
Mitsu sobbed into his chest. "I have read how you felt about losing Hanabi, so you must realize how I will feel when I lose you!"
Naruto rubbed Mitsu's back to comfort her. "Listen, as much as much as I want to be in your family, and become the father you never had and always wanted, I just can't, I won't be able to support you behind bars and by the time I get out, you will be all grow, having kids of your own… No I can't do that…"
Mitsu clung onto Naruto, desperately hoping it would change his mind. "How you feel about Hanabi, I feel about you!"
Naruto as startled by this revelation, but knew what Mitsu was trying to do. "Listen, Mitsu, you are simply confused. I am 24 years old, and even if that age difference wasn't a moral issue for me, I know that what it may seem like how you feel, but we only have known each other for one week, barely enough time to form a solid friendship. If anything, I would be more of a father figure than anything. Plus, in some way, you are trying to convince me not to go through with it…"
Mitsu backed off a bit and looked up. In her heart, she knew Naruto was right, that was not how she felt about him. "I'm sorry, but I don't want you to go. You're the first person to ever to give me the time and day for me. Yes I have other friends, but we don't hang as often real friends do."
Naruto nodded. "Listen… right now, they probably think I took you hostage, can you help me find a way out of here?"
Mitsu felt her chest tighten again as she desperately held onto Naruto. "Please! Don't go! Please! I'm begging you!"
Naruto looked sadly at Mitsu. Figures the one person who is able to convince me to not kill myself is actually giving her all to convince me not to… Well fuck, but I already made up mind…
Naruto sadly sighed as he held Mitsu to him. "I have already made up my mind… I want to join Hanabi, that way I can finally be happy."
Mitsu backed off and nodded. "Alright… in my basement, I found a secret trap door that leads outside. If these houses were built the same way, then your basement should have a trapdoor as well. Fortunately for you, I left my backdoor open, that way you can go through my house and drive off in your car…"
Naruto nodded as he got up and headed for his basement. "Thank you for telling me, can you please show me?"
Mitsu nodded as she followed Naruto to the basement.
Naruto turned to Mitsu, who showed him where the trapdoor was, and hugged her tightly as he kissed her head. "I'm going to miss you!"
Mitsu held Naruto as well as tears spilled from her eyes. "I'm going to miss you too!"
With some emotional effort, he let go and went through the trap door as Mitsu headed back upstairs, to wait for them to barge in the house.
Sasuke sighed as he looked at his men. Who knew that Naruto would go so low to take a child hostage? So far any attempts to reach out to him haven't worked… we are so close to just banging the door open, because I know he wouldn't actually hurt her.
"Alright! If he doesn't respond in five minutes or come out, we will bash the door down. I'll talk to him personally."
Konoha's police force saluted him. "Yes sir!"
Sasuke nodded. I knew he was thinking about killing the bastard, but actually going through with it?
After getting to the other end of the tunnel, Naruto looked around; sky included, and quickly went to the backdoor of Mitsu's house and snuck in. After that he quietly looked out the window and waited for most of the force to barge in. Sasuke, I'm sorry for what I'm about to do.
Sasuke sighed as he gave the signal. "Take the door down!"
With that, the police force took a battering ram and broke the door down. The first thing Sasuke saw was a girl about the age of 12, who looked so similar to Hanabi. "Hello there, what's your name?"
The girl looked up. "Mitsu."
Sasuke smiled. "Well Mitsu, do you know who took you in here and where he is?"
Mitsu nodded. "Naruto is upstairs."
Sasuke signaled his men to look upstairs as he noticed the basement door slightly ajar. "Mitsu? Why is the basement door opened?"
Mitsu shrugged. "I wanted to look down there."
Sasuke immediately got suspicious, and it was confirmed when one of his men came down. "Sir! No one is up there!"
Sasuke then looked at Mitsu. "I want you to stay right here!"
Sasuke took out his gun as he walked downstairs and saw a trapdoor open. Shit! Sasuke was startled when the radio came on. "Sasuke come in! Naruto's car pulled out of the neighbor's driveway and drove away we highly suspect it was Naruto."
Sasuke immediately ran up and almost ran into Mitsu. "Whoa! Please move out of the way!"
Mitsu shook her head. "Naruto wanted me to show this to another person."
Sasuke took the note and read the first paragraph and his eyes widened. Dammit! His intentions were never to use this girl as a hostage! No! He most likely made friends with her, and gave her the note to give to someone else. I'm guessing his original guy was Neji, but then he met Mitsu, with her being such a look alike to Hanabi, who knows what it did to him?
Sasuke then ran to his car and sped off after Naruto.
Mitsu then lied down on the couch and covered herself with a blanket. Naruto… I really hope you don't kill yourself…
One week later…
Mitsu wiped her eyes as she approached the coffin. Naruto… I really hope you are happy up there. You are the first true friends I ever had… I miss you so much.
Mushi, mother of Mitsu stared at her daughter, staring at the body. She had no idea that her daughter had made friends with such a man. From what she heard, he was going through a rough time, much like her. She sadly sighed as she heard someone sit next to her. "Mitsu's your daughter right?"
Mushi looked to her right and saw a man with pearl white eye sitting next to her. "Yeah, at first I was angry at Naruto, and then she began defending him and telling me about him…"
The man sighed. "I'm sorry where my manners? I'm Hiashi Hyuuga."
Mushi shook her head. "It's alright, I'm Mushi Yuugan."
Hiashi sighed again. "Mitsu, she looks so much like my daughter Hanabi."
Mushi was surprised. "Wait, you mean Hanabi, as in the girl that died 7 years ago?"
Hiashi nodded. "Yes. Naruto and my daughter were in love with each other, though they kept the relationship from me then, they were so happy together. Ever since Hanabi's death, Naruto changed completely. He was depressed for 7 long years, waiting for that man to get out. Last week was the day he got out and that was when he killed Jonathan. He then proceeded with his plan of suicide."
Mushi sadly sighed. "Mitsu's so sad right now. From what I heard, he was her first real friend and now she is crushed for having him gone."
Hiashi sadly smiled. "She will have to find a way to live with the pain. The pain of losing a friend is not easy to get over. Have her get out and make friends."
Mushi nodded as Mitsu finally stepped away from the casket. "Don't worry I will."
Sasuke stared at the line of people wanting to see Naruto's body one last time. Well Naruto, I hope you're happy now, because these people aren't… Why… Why did he have to go and do something so stupid? Worst of all, he planned this during his 7 years of depression!
Sasuke then noticed that Mitsu has actually placed the Lilac Crystal around Naruto's neck. Interesting…
One week earlier…
Naruto reached a hundred, heading for his destination. Hanabi, here I come. Naruto saw the intersection of Shuriken Avenue and Shinobi Street and smirked as he saw a truck about to pass through it. Perfect timing, the place where Hanabi died is the same place where I shall also die. Naruto made sure that the 18 wheeler rammed into him as he was crossing the intersection.
Sasuke saw the whole thing happen as Naruto's car was practically crushed under the weight of the truck and the remains shot in the air and landed right about in the middle. Dammit! Why did he do something so stupid!? Sasuke skidded to a halt as he called in an ambulance and went right up to the wreckage and dragged the bloodied Naruto out.
Naruto chuckled as he coughed up blood. "Hey Sasuke. How are you doing? Nice day to die isn't it? Today, being her birthday and all."
Sasuke shook his head. "Don't talk like that! You will live!"
Naruto shook his head. "You don't understand, I want to join her, plus this will be a great birthday gift, don't you think?"
Sasuke felt tears well up in his eyes as he gave up. "Yes, Naruto. It will probably be the best birthday gift."
Naruto smiled as he coughed again. "You're a great friend Sasuke, tell Mitsu that I will miss her, and give Mitsu the Lilac Crystal."
Sasuke's eyes widened. "You are sure?"
Naruto nodded and laughed. "Better than being covered in dirt."
Sasuke wiped away his tears. "I'll miss you buddy."
Naruto smirked. "So will everyone else… I'll miss you as well, along with everyone else."
Sasuke nodded as he took the Lilac Crystal and stared at it. "Alright, don't worry this will get to Mitsu."
Naruto smiled. "Thank you… and now for the release from this depression…"
Sasuke couldn't help but cry as Naruto took his last breath. I'll miss you Naruto…
Naruto's world became black as he saw nothing and felt nothing. All of a sudden, everything flashed white and he found himself in the Spiritual Realm again, and this time he knew it was time to save Hanabi, but he did not know how, but he gathered his energy nonetheless
The ride was mostly uneventful until Hanabi started fidgeting. "Naruto, I have a feeling something bad will happen."
Spirit Naruto groaned as he tried to figure out a way to save Hanabi.
Naruto stopped at the red light and looked at Hanabi. "It's ok; nothing bad is going to happen while I'm around."
Spirit Naruto desperately looked around the car for anything to stop his past self from moving the car. Don't say that! That's a lie!
Hanabi shook her head. "You know how I have a sixth sense for these things. Like about a year ago when we were at that zoo and I had the same feeling and a tiger escaped."
Spirit Naruto felt tears well up. The moment was coming way too fast… Wait a second I could hold the breaks down!
Naruto shook his head at the memory. It was one of his scariest moments in life as the lion headed straight towards Hanabi, fortunately, the zoo keepers shot it with tranquilizer before he got to her, or otherwise he would have been the lion's next dinner as he was protecting her with his body. "Well I'll be on the lookout for any potential disasters."
Spirit Naruto focused all his effort and energy on the breaks. "PHYSICAL INTERACTION!"
Hanabi nodded, but wasn't convinced that would be enough to stop what she would feel is that this would be the last time she would see Naruto. Hanabi tightly held Naruto's leg as he slowly drove out from the green light, or at least tried to, but found out that the car wasn't moving. Naruto tried to move again. "What the?" With one last effort, Naruto pumped the gas and all of a sudden the car shot forward.
Spirit Naruto panicked as he ran out of energy. Oh fuck! Oh fuck! Oh fuck!
Hanabi did not know what just happened. "Umm what?" Hanabi then looked out the window and saw that several cars skidded out one of the side streets on his right side and raced through the intersection that Naruto was driving through. Hanabi's eyes widened in fear. "Naruto!"
Spirit Naruto felt despair as he knew the he has failed. Hanabi and himself.
Naruto immediately stepped on the breaks just in time for the closest car to slam into the nose of the car, causing that car to flip over while, and Naruto's car spun out back into the street they came from.
Spirit Naruto sighed with relief as he felt himself and his memories fade into the current Naruto.
Out of Spiritual Realm
17 year old Naruto was relieved as he worriedly looked at the 12 year old Hanabi. "You ok? Did you hit you head on anything?"
Hanabi nodded. "Yeah I'm ok, and no I didn't, I'm just a little dizzy."
Naruto unbuckled himself and Hanabi as he grabbed her and wrestled out of the air bags. Naruto got out of the car, followed by Hanabi and they sat down in the nearby grass area and held her tightly. "I'm glad you are ok, I was so scared that I would have lost you forever."
Hanabi clung onto Naruto and sobbed into his chest as the realization of how close to death she was hit her like a ton of bricks. "Me too, I was scared about losing you as well."
Naruto smiled he rubbed Hanabi's back. "It's ok, we're both still here and alive."
Hanabi sniffled as she separated from Naruto and smiled. "I know…"
Naruto and Hanabi kissed for a minute and then stared deeply into each other's eyes. "I love you so much Hanabi."
Hanabi smiled as they held each other again. "I love you too."
After a minute of embracing each other, they separated and Naruto took out his phone dialed 911. "I'm going to call the police in and then out parents to hold off on dinner."
Hanabi nodded as she laid her head on Naruto's lap. "Yes, I'd like to report an accident on Shuriken Avenue and Shinobi Street… Naruto Uzumaki… There were two of us in the car… Yes the light turned green and I was about to drive across the intersection but I think the car stalled or something, so luckily, we didn't get T-Boned, otherwise we would have been the ones that have barrel rolled down the street… One car hit us, but there were several other cars street racing as well… Ok, I have to call my parents… What do you mean I can't hang up? … They probably are worried about us! … No! I want to call them now!"
Hanabi placed her hand on Naruto's face and gave him a bright smile that always seems to calm him down. "It's ok Naruto, calm down. We can call them later."
Naruto took a breath as and talked into the phone again. "Fine, I will wait until the EMT or the police arrive first, then I'm hanging up… thank you."
It wasn't a minute later that the police arrived first. "Alright they're here, I'm hanging up now."
Naruto dialed up the house and waited for an answer. "Hello mother."
Naruto heard her sigh in frustration. "Where are you guys!?"
Naruto could only smile at her worry. "We're fine, just got into a little accident."
Hanabi snickered at that. "Little?"
Naruto covered the receiver as he looked down at Hanabi. "We want to reassure her, not to make her worry."
Hanabi sighed and snuggled into is lap. "Fine, whatever you say…"
Hitomi coughed into the phone. "Hello? You there?"
Naruto put the phone to his ear. "Yes I'm here and before you ask, yes both of us are fine. Maybe a little shaken up, but that's all. After giving our statements, we'll hitch a ride home with the police and we can finally sit at the dinner table and we'll talk then, ok?"
Hitomi nodded at that. "Alright I'll tell everyone you two will be late."
Naruto chuckled. "Alright, see you soon mother."
As soon as Naruto hung up an ambulance arrived and an officer approached him.
Naruto and Hanabi got out of the police car and thanked the officer for the lift and headed into their house.
The two were immediately bombarded by a happy birthday from their family and a hundred questions, to which they were about to answer when there was a knock on the door.
Naruto answered and a woman with a child standing next to her was there. "Hello there, we just moved in next door, I'm Mushi Yuugan, and this is Mitsu Yuugan."
Naruto smiled. "I am Naruto Uzumaki, and this is my family."
Naruto introduced his family and Hitomi offered for them to come inside and eat with them.
Naruto saw the striking resemblance between Hanabi and Mitsu, but shrugged it off as coincidence as did everyone else. (In this story, Mushi never met Hiashi, so don't assume things.) Naruto even learned that Mushi was 4 at the time. In return, Naruto and Hanabi finally explained what exactly happened with the accident.
After a great neighborly dinner, Mushi and Mitsu returned home, with a promising everlasting friendship with their neighbors and Hanabi turned to her parents. "Mother, father, is it ok if I sleep with Naruto tonight? I still feel a bit shaken over what happened."
Hiashi and Hitomi smiled. "Sure, oh yeah, we forgot to invite them to your birthday party over the weekend."
Hanabi smiled. "It's alright we can invite them tomorrow."
Naruto smiled as he pats Hanabi's shoulder. "You go take a shower first."
Hanabi nodded. "Alright."
After they took their showers, Naruto and Hanabi decided to sleep in Hanabi's room again.
Hanabi sighed as she lied down on her bed. "So, did you see the resemblance?"
Naruto lied down next to her and covered them with the blanket. "Don't worry she holds nothing to your beauty. I could see differences."
Hanabi shook her head. "Like what?"
Naruto smiled. "Like how beautiful your lilac eyes are, how your smile always seem to make me happy how one strand of hair always seems to fall in front of your face. I love everything about Hanabi, including you natural lilac scent and I don't ever want to lose it. Plus, Mitsu is only 4 and if you are worried that you will be replaced by a younger version of yourself in the future then you are worrying over nothing because I love you and only you Hanabi"
Hanabi smiled as she kissed Naruto, who kissed back. "I love you and only you as well Naruto."
With that they clung tightly onto each other as they rubbed each other's backs and drifted to sleep to dream of sweet dreams.
