Felt like writing a little fluff this morning. :) Fourth in my J/J series. Enjoy
Title: Promises Kept
Author: Cindy Ryan
Pairing: Sheppard/Keller
category: Fluff, one shot
Summary: John has a promise to keep
It was early evening on a Tuesday. Jennifer was just finishing up the last of her paperwork for the day as she sat in her office.
Jennifer smiled as she thought of her plans for that night. She was meeting John for a late dinner.
Jennifer finished signing orders on one file and moved to the next. She still couldn't believe they'd been engaged for two weeks. Still didn't seem real to her that she had not only won John Sheppard's heart but that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her.
A shadow fell across Jen's desk causing her to look up. She smiled at her visitor.
"You're back early."
John returned her smile as he moved over to the desk. "Yeah, was uneventful for once. Trade negations went well."
"Good."Jennifer replied as she put her paperwork aside. "You want to move dinner up?"
John shook his head. "No, you almost done? I was hoping we could take a walk first."
Jennifer nodded. "Was just wrapping up. Let me write this one thing and I'm all yours."
Jennifer finished the notation and she stood walking around the desk. It felt good to take his hand in hers.
Everyone knew now and their friends were happy for them.
Jennifer leaned in and kissed him quickly. "I'm glad you're back."
John tenderly swept a stray blonde hair away from her face. "Missed you too. Come on."
They walked out of the infirmary and into the main part of the city.
John led her away from the populated area of the city toward the south piers. Midway down the pier John stopped and leaned against the railing. He pulled Jennifer close and kissed her.
Jennifer melted against him as the kiss deepened and intensified.
When they finally came up for air John smiled as he met her gaze. "I have a promise to keep."
Jennifer tilted her head. "What promise?"
John grinned. "She forgets so easily. I promised I'd do the one knee thing, remember?"
Jennifer blushed. "John, I was perfectly happy with my proposal….it was perfect."
John squeezed her hand and stepped away. "Let me do this the right way. Haven't even given you a ring yet."
Jennifer squeezed his hand back. "I don't need a ring."
"Every woman needs a ring."John replied quietly as he knelt down on one knee. He pulled a simple gold ring out of his pocket.
John took a deep breathe and met Jennifer's gaze. "Jen, I love you. I saw what my life could be like without you and I never want to feel that empty or alone again.
You've shown me that I am capable of having a healthy relationship. You've shown me that love can have a happy ending and I'm grateful for that.
I can't picture my life without you. I want us for forever……Jennifer Keller will you marry me?"
Tears were streaming down Jennifer's face as she nodded pulling John to his feet.
"Yes."Jennifer whispered when she finally found her voice. "Yes, John Sheppard I'll marry you."
John wiped a few of her tears away before placing the ring on her finger.
"Best I could do."John stated huskily. "Haven't had time to get back to Earth to do some real shopping."
Through blurry eyes Jennifer stared down at the ring. What she had first thought was a simple gold band turned out to have three small diamond/crystal like stones across the top.
Jennifer kissed him.
When they pulled apart Jennifer said. "It's beautiful, John. I love it."
John kissed her once more and for the first time in a long time he was looking forward to the future.
