Disclaimer: I don't own Twilight, or Blood and Chocolate.

Notes: AU, no characters from Blood and Chocolate appear, though some events from the movie may be mentioned. I also played around with Edward's traits as a half-breed. I'm going to blame it on the fact that he isn't half-human, but half-loup garoux.

Hybrid Blood

Prologue:

The scent of blood and gunpowder filled the room in a sickening haze. Harsh, gurgling breaths, and the erratic beats of a failing heart cried into the ears of the one who listened.

Carlisle Cullen froze in shock in the doorway leading to one of the rooms in the Chicago hospital in which he worked. A look of agony twisted his angel features as he saw the two most important people in his everlasting world.

"Carlisle," a weak voice breathed out. The blonde raced to the side of the woman he loved more than anything. "Carlisle, you have to save Edward."

"Elizabeth, what happened?" Carlisle moaned, stroking back bronze colored hair from his love's face.

"Hunters, they killed the pack." Elizabeth whispered. "Carlisle, my love, you have to save Edward. Don't let our baby die." The dieing woman placed a small cylinder into the ice-cold hands of her husband. Shocked golden eyes gazed into determined emerald green.

"Liz…" Carlisle closed his eyes, before opening them again. He leaned down and kissed his wife on the lips, one last time. "I promise. I will do everything in my power to save Edward." A small smile curled the auburn-haired woman's lips as she closed her eyes and breathed her last. Carlisle lowered his head for a second in grief before quickly turning and rushing to the side of the other bed.

A beautiful boy lay curled up on his side; hair the same color as his mother's a tousled mess on his head. Carlisle gently turned the boy onto his back, unconsciously marveling at the perfection that he and Elizabeth had created together. He took in the goodness that, even as the boy lay dying, glowed brilliantly from his soul. Carefully the young-looking doctor took the cylinder his wife had given him, a hypodermic needle, and ripped open his son's shirt.

A gaping wound going from the base of the boy's neck and over his left collarbone was revealed. Radiating out from the wound was sickly looking black lines; the poison from the wound spreading through veins and being pumped through the teen's dying body. Carlisle gulped heavily before injecting the contents of the needle into the wound. Immediately the black lines started to disappear, and the wound began to close until a thick pink scar took its place.

Long dark lashes fluttered on pale white cheeks. Finally beautiful eyes—one the same intense color as the dead woman's, and the other a warm honey color—opened and gazed up into relieved gold.

"Father?" The boy asked hoarsely, shifting slightly on the bed.

"Edward." The man breathed, before swooping down and enveloping the boy into a tight hug. The boy closed his eyes as tears spilled over perfect cheeks.

"Mother," he moaned. "Mother's dead." Carlisle shuddered as tearless sobs wracked his body. He kissed his son on the head before burying his head in the bronze-colored strands his baby had inherited from his love.

Well, there you have it. The prologue for my first Twilight fanfic. As much as I love the relationship between Edward and Bella I don't think this fic will be a romance. Mostly because I am absolutely horrid at writing romance.

Please let me know what you think of this idea!
