"Unintended" by Muse

* * *

Violet gulped down the last of the beer and hurled the bottle at the opposite wall.

It shattered on impact, and amber glass flew everywhere.

You could be my unintended

Choice to live my life extended

You could be the one I'll always love

She didn't even bother to duck.

The glass glittered in her hair and clothes.

You could be the one who listens

To my deepest inquisitions

You could be the one I'll always love

Her chest was rising and falling rapidly, and she no longer felt human - more animal, because the rage from within was just consuming her.

I'll be there as soon as I can

But I'm busy mending broken

Pieces of the life I had before

Violet fell out of her chair to her knees.

She could feel the glass piercing her knees through her jeans, but she made no effort to clear it away.

First there was the one who challenged

All my dreams and all my balance

She could never be as good as you

Quigley walked in, and upon seeing Violet in this condition, ran and kelt beside her, getting his knees cut too.

You could be my unintended

Choice to live my life extended

You should be the one I'll always love

"I never meant to hurt you," she moaned, and burst into tears.

Quigley put his arm around her shoulders, and carried her to the nearest bed, kissing her forehead and feeling the tears drip down her nose.
