Will was trying to get into a college English class. He was supposed to type up a 300 word article about another article he had read, and if they liked it enough then he would qualify. He couldn't think of what to write about, so he procrastinated as much as possible. At the last minute, he sat down at his computer and started searching the internet. He found several articles that might be of interest, so he left them open. But he instantly closed all the others when he stumbled across a story about Angelina Jolie-Pitt and Brad Pitt. Normally he didn't read celebrity gossip (that was more Elizabeth's style) but this story interested him. It was written by a close friend of theirs, and was about why they adopted all their kids. It interested him so much, he read it at least twice before he started to write about it. When he started typing, he couldn't stop. Before long, Will had three pages. Why, his thing was longer than the article itself!! He went through his story, and weeded out about three-quarters of the whole thing. It still was quite long, but it wasn't too long. He submitted the article, and now the hard part began. It would be 2-5 days before he was notified whether he had made it or not. When he called Elizabeth (for she had asked him to call her as soon as the article was done) she asked him what he had written about. When he told her, she laughed.

"You have got to be kidding me!! Angelina Jolie?! Brad Pitt?! I mean, really?!"

"C'mon, Liz. You should have seen the article!! I'm e-mailing it to you right now!!" He dashed over to his computer and found it. Starting a new e-mail, he put the link in and sent it to Elizabeth.

"Now tell me when you get it, and you need to read it!!" For the next five minutes she continued to laugh at him, and he continued defending himself. Finally, the e-mail arrived. There was complete silence for at least ten minutes.

"You know, that is the most amazing thing I have ever read!!"

"I knew you would like it. Do you want to see the article I submitted?"

"Of course I do!! Why wouldn't I?!" So he sent the article as well. Again, there was complete silence as she read it.

"That's a great article. I rather doubt they could refuse you at all. I hope you get in."

"Of course you do!! Who wouldn't?"

"Well, the guys who score low enough that they don't get in." She had a valid point there. They talked about different things for a while longer, then got off the phone.

Three Days Later

Will was checking his e-mail when he saw a message from The College Board. Eagerly clicking on it, he quickly scanned the message. It read as follows.

To: William Turner

From: The College Board

Subject: RE: Submission

Mr. Turner,

We have reviewed your submission and decided that the topic chosen wasn't the kind of thing we needed. So, we regret to inform you that you have not made the class.

Regards,

The College Board

With a heavy heart Will called Elizabeth.

"Elizabeth here, leave a message at the sound of the beep!!" Her voicemail was all too cheery.

"Hey Liz, it's Will. I got an e-mail regarding the article, and, well, I didn't make it. Just wanted to let you know. Bye."

Well, there were always other English classes to take, he was sure he could qualify for another one.
