Summary: A different take on how Meredith could have told Derek to pick her.

It had been a long day, he thought things were going better between him and Meredith and then he let it slip that he hadn't signed the divorce papers yet. And ever since then things had been really tense between them, any time they were alone they were getting into arguments and just plain ignoring each other. Derek knew that he had a choice to make: Addison, his wife, the woman he had spent the last eleven years of his life with or Meredith, a girl he met a few weeks ago and who he had fallen head over heels in love with. The ringing of the elevator announcing his arrival to the admin floor brought him out of his thoughts. He walked up to his office noticing an envelope taped to the door with his name written on it. He knew immediately who it was from; he would have recognized her hand writing anywhere. A smile crossed his face because before Satan had shown up, Meredith used to leave little love notes on his door all the time, only now he doubted that this was a love letter, he opened it to find this inside…

Derek,

I try to talk to you, but I don't know what to say. I am afraid you don't want me to say anything. So I don't. But inside me there are words waiting to come out and tell you how I feel, like how I miss you and how I love you despite my broken heart. And how I need you in my life and especially much I want you, but those words may forever stay in my heart, locked inside. Sometimes I wonder if there are words locked inside you too…but I'll never know…

Love Always,

Meredith

She loved him, she loved him, how was that possible after all he had done to her. He had come to Seattle in search of a new beginning, a new life, one away from New York and Addison and Mark. On his first day here he had met her, had fallen in love with, and had already started making plans for the future. His one mistake, he had never gotten the chance to tell her about Addison. He had planned to the night she showed up. How could she think that he didn't want her to talk? He had waited so long to hear the words 'I love you' come from her lips, but he wasn't entirely sure how she felt, so he didn't press the issue. But now he was certain, she loved him and he…he couldn't get her out of his mind. Every time he was kissing his wife, he wished he was kissing Meredith…he would lie awake at night because it was too quite, he missed her snoring. He missed everything about her. He had made up his mind, now he just needed to tell her.
