Chapter 2- Pictures and Pool Parties
It had been a few days since the Bladebreakers had gone with Hilary to the airport, and they hadn't seen Hilary since. They had gotten over their shock enough for Tyson to start annoying Kai once again teasing him constantly about how he got hit by a girl... to which Kai would just give a death glare and walk off, angry.
This morning, however, Kai had called an unexpected break in their training schedule. When the others had looked at him increduously over breakfast he had just growled that they could either stop looking at him like that or they would be training again. So now they were sat in Tyson's Den Room. They'd already watched one movie and were arguing about what to do next when Tyson suggested that they invite Hilary round.
"What?" asked Tyson as everyone raised an eyebrow at him.
"I didn't think you liked Hilary." said Max
Tyson, realising what he had just said blushed heavily and said, "Well it's boring around here with noone to argue with."
Ray grinned at his team mate and offered to call Hilary.
"Hello?" came a woman's voice after the third ring.
"Hi, it's Ray, is Hilary there?" Ray replied politely.
"One second." said the voice then yelled, "Hilary! Phone!"
"Coming!" yelled Hilary an Ray heard her stomping down the stairs, "Hello?" she said.
"Hey Hils, we were wondering if you wanted to come round for a movie or something?"
"Oh i'd love to Ray! I'll just ask"
Ray waited patiently until he heard Hilary approaching the phone again.
"Ray? I'm really sorry but i cant mum wants me to stay here, we've got some people coming round." said Hilary dejectedly, then she perked up, "How about you guys come around here? It's a pool party"
Ray relayed Hilary's idea tot he rest of the gang who all agreed excitedly, except Kai obviously, "Yeah that'd be great Hils, when do you want us round?"
After discussing the finer details for a few moments both hung up and Hilary went to get ready, whilst Ray went to get the Bladebreakers moving.
At Hilary's house...
Ding dong! Ding dong! came the sound of the bell throughout the house. Hilary sighed, she wasn't even dressed properly yet! Then, when no one opened the door she yelled, "Selene! Can you get that?"
Selene, who had been sitting in her room rolled her eyes at the sound of the doorbell and ignored it thinking, great, more people. Then she heard Hilary's shrill voice yelling at her to open the door. Selene growled and yanked open her door. The door bounced back off the wall with a resounding THUD! and she went down the stairs. Out in the backgarden she could hear her mum chatting happily and laughing with her friends and she rolled her eyes again, why her mother always insisted in haveing these little welcome back! parties she didnt know. She hated them, all those strangers staring at her and remarking how tall she'd grown, how unlike Hilary she looked. Asking how she was, what she was up to. huh like i could even tell them she thought, smiling grimly, then she reached the front door and pulled it open. The smile on her face quickly disappeared as she saw the boys from the airport stood there, most of them grinning happily at her.
"Hey there!" greeted the one she remembered to be Tyson.
Selene just glared at them all and yelled, "Hilary! Door!" and, as Tyson made to walk in she slammed the door in his face. Tyson fell to the floor rubbing his nose, "Well that was rude!" he exclaimed.
Hilary came down the stairs to find noone there, "Selene? Where are they?" she called.
Selene, appeared behind Hilary, (she had managed to make her way back up to her room before being called again) "Out there" she stated simply.
"You didn't let them in? Oh for crying out loud!" Hilary almost yelled and went to the front door.
"Hey, what'd she shut the door for?" Tyson asked as Hilary let them inside.
"I don't know" sighed Hilary, "I'm sorry about her, she's not very sociable" Selene, who still stood on the stairs snorted at her and then retreated back upstairs. Kai watched her go, feeling strange. Like he had butterflies in his stomach. He was still confused as to what had happened the other day, but he wasn't going to mention it if she didnt.
"Go on through," Hilary gestured, "i'll take your stuff." The boys proceeded to dump their stuff on Hilary, except Kai who sighed and took a few bags off the struggling girl. "Thanks Kai" she grinned and led him to the downstairs cloakroom. When they got their they dumped the stuff in a corner and as Hilary turned to go, She felt an arm stop her. She looked up in confusion to see Kai staring down at her. "What's up Kai?"
"Your sister, Hilary, how does she know me?" he asked.
"I don't know honestly Kai, i didnt even know she did until the other day." Hilary replied, "Maybe she didn't like how you played in a tournament or something?"
Before Kai could answer, the door swung open and Selene stood there, she was glaring at Kai, "Take your hand off my sister." she growled. Kai let go of Hilary, and glared back at her.
"look, Selene, dont worry about it! We were just talk-"Hilary was cut off by Selene.
"I'm just warning him." she replied and then glared at Kai until Hilary dragged her away.
"What the hell was that about? What is your problem with Kai?" Hilary demanded, when they were safely out of earshot.
"That's none of your business Hilary. It's nothing to do with you!" thank god she added silently.
"Look, i don't care if you don't like him! Just be civil to him! and to everyone else for that matter!" Hilary said quietly.
Selene regarded the younger girl silently for a while, silently proud of her, until she finally nodded.
"Thank you. I dont want to lose my friends, ok? at the end of the day, you'll be gone before they are." said Hilary.
Selene mentally flinched and felt ashamed. Ashamed that she wasnt around, that she couldn't tell Hilary what was going on. But above all, that Hilary was right. she surpressed the feelings and said simply, "mum said the pool's ready." then left to get changed.
By the time Selene finally appeared outside, there were lots of people, mainly adults, standing round talking. Hilary was sunbathing by the huge outdoor swimming pool, whilst Tyson and Max were splashing each other and Ray and Kai swam laps, racing each other, Kai winning. Selene walked over, feeling extremely uncomfortable in her black bikini, her ghostly pale skin showing. She reached the pool and was suddenly aware that she was being stared at. She whipped around to see the boys watching her, mouths open. She growled mentally, she hated guys like that! In response she glared at them and dove in. Feeling the water around her, she suddenly felt safer again and she stroked her way toward the other end of the pool, the water gliding past her.
Kai watched Selene execute a perfect dive into the pool and immediately swim quickly and powerfully towards the other end. Feeling his competitive edge kickin he waited until she returned to his end of the pool and pushed off the same time she did.
Ray was watching in interest as he watched his captain watch Hilary's sister and smiled as he set off at the same time as her. Obviously someone was interested he almost laughed, Kai? interested in girls? yeah right! He watched in amazement as the girl matched Kai stroke for stroke and they both reached the end at the same time before turning and returning to the other end of the pool. No one could match Kai! not even himself! But this strange girl was now starting to out do Kai! indeed, as if sensing him there she began to move ahead swiftly, her strokes became more powerful and faster, enabling her to get away from him.
Damn girl! Kai thought, how can she out swim me? he started swimming faster, trying to keep up, but he tired faster than she did and eventually returned to where Ray stood in the shallow end. Kai was now in a bad mood.
Selene laughed to herself as she saw Kai retire from their unspoken race and she slowed her pace again, going at an almost leisurely pace now. She swam for a good while before she heard her mother call for her. She came up from the water and looked quizzically at the woman approaching her.
"Selene, phone for you." she said, looking confused and concerned.
"Thanks, mum." Selene said and climbed out and took the phone from her, "Yes?" she asked into the phone.
"Ah, Selene, it has been so long since i have heard your sweet voice..." came a male voice.
"What the hell do you want?" Selene demanded, recognising the voice immediately.
"tut tut, that's no way to greet your master is it?" chuckled the voice.
"What do you want?" asked Selene, moving away from the crowd and the noise so she wouldnt be heard.
There was a rush of static from the other end of the phone as the person sighed angrily, "You will show me some respect! Obviously it was not beaten into you well enough!" Selene winced, knowing she was in for a rough time ahead. "Now, as you know, you return to us soon but to make sure you don't slack off on your training, i have sent your trainer to you. Along with a few other surprises. I'm sure you will be seeing them soon." the person laughed and hung up. Selene stood where she was, staring at the phone as if it was a bomb, then she shook herself out of it and took the phone back inside, glancing about the garden as she did so. When she returned back to the pool, still looking around Hilary asked, "Who was on the phone?"
Selene jumped and turned to see Hilary now stood behind her, "Noone" she replied.
"It can't have been no one!" said Hilary, "Was it your boyfriend?"
Selene growled in response and was about to dive in again as her mum, Kathy, called out, "who was on the phone dear?"
"Noone." Selene growled again.
"Was it your father?" Kathy asked, coldly.
Selene sighed, "Yes."
"What did he want?"
"He wanted to make sure i got here alright." Selene replied, "I'm going to change." Selene walked back into the house.
A few hours later...
The party was over now and most of the guests had gone home. The bladebreakers had been invited to stay round and had happily accepted. Now it was late and the Bladebreakers were sprawled out in the living room with Hilary, talking and joking. When suddenly Tyson asked, "So, Hil, what's the deal with your dad? Your mum didn't seem happy about that phone call earlier."
Hilary froze and everyone went quiet, "well, Tyson, not that it's any of your business, but my dad owns the Alasandrov Company and him and mum divorced when i was six and Selene was eight. They had a bad marriage, but i dont remember much about that. Then one day mum announced that they were getting a divorce and that she loved us both the same etc etc and that we were going to go back to Japan, where she was born. But Selene said she didn't want to. She decided to stay in Russia with our dad for some unknown reason. It broke my mum's heart that her daughter didnt want to be with her, so we left and then Selene got sent to some boarding school or other and the next time i saw her she was really different... that's about it really... Now who wants to watch a film?" the tension instantly lifted and the boys began to squabble over what movie to watch. Kai however, slipped out of the room and went upstairs to the bathroom.
As he walked past Selene's room he noticed that the door stood open and that the room was empty. As if drawn, he went inside and saw an open book laying on the bed. Intrigued he walked over and picked it up. It turned out to be a photo album. The page was open on a picture of three children. One was a younger Hilary, looking down into the beyblade dish in awe. The other seemed to be Selene, who was stood to the right of Hilary, also staring down into the dish but seemed to be commanding a beyblade. The other... Kai gasped... it looked like a younger version of himself!
Taking a closer look he realised it was himself and that he too was commanding a beyblade. Confused he flipped over the page and saw another picture of himself and Selene, a little bit older now. She was hugging the younger him as he held out a bracelet. In the background was a picture of Voltaire and another man in a clean suit. Both men stood watching the two children, each had a cruel smile on his lips.
Turning the page again he caught a glimpse of a photo portraying the younger versions of Selene and Kai again, but this time stood infront of a much younger Hilary who was crying. Both were glaring at another young boy who was now crying, sporting bruises and cuts. He only caught a glimpse because a hand slammed the book shut. Kai looked up into Selene's angry eyes.
"What are you doing in here?" she demanded, icily.
"I..." began Kai taken aback.
"Get out!" she said, "I said, GET OUT!" she yelled when he didnt move.
"Why do you have pictures of me?" asked Kai, ignoring the deathglare he was getting.
