Chapter 4- The Demolition Boys
Kai made his way back to Hilary's house, hoping to find Selene there. He walked up to the door and knocked. Within moments the door was flung open, and Selene stood there, looking slightly panicked, but that passed when she realised who it was.
"Hilary's not in." she stated, watching him warily. Kai gave her an exasperated look and walked past her into the hall.
"What do you want Kai?" Selene asked.
"Well, you don't just tell someone something like that, and then disappear!" Kai exclaimed, confused as to her indifferent attitude, "When I went back to find you there was just a small patch of blood on the floor, what the hell happened?"
"I just hit my hand on something sharp, that's all." Selene replied, feeling sick. She didn't realise he had been worried about her, "If that's all…" she trailed off, opening the door.
Kai stood there, feeling a bit stupid for overreacting, after all it wasn't as if it had been a big patch of blood after all. He nodded and turned to leave. Then, as he walked past her, he noticed that she was now wearing a long sleeved jacket, suspicious, he stopped and turned back.
"Were you going somewhere?" he asked, indicating the jacket.
Selene blushed, then nodded quickly, "Just for a walk. To the park"
"Well, why don't you come down with me, we're going there to train if you want to join us." Kai asked.
Selene frowned inwardly, not knowing how to get out of this, then nodded once and slammed the door behind them both.
At the park…
The rest of the Bladebreakers had arrived at the park, shortly after Kai and Selene and were now all moaning about having to train some more, and all laughing at Tyson, who had at lunch almost eaten Kenny's arm, as Kenny had gone to reach for a sandwich and got in Tyson's way. At the same time they were running laps around the park. No one had spoken to Selene, still too weirded out by what had happened earlier. This suited her, as she sat alone, eyes closed, leaning against a tree, her blade in hand. She had been there for a while, when she began to grow uncomfortable and opened her eyes as she shifted a little. In the distance she saw someone stood alone, watching her. He was quite a way away, but with her enhanced senses she could see him almost clearly. Getting up slowly, she looked around to see the Bladebreakers heading towards her on their last lap, Kai in the lead, Tyson wheezing along behind. Ignoring them she walked quickly away from them…
Kai watched Selene get up and walk away from the spot she had sat at all afternoon and his eyes narrowed, wondering where she was going. Then he saw her break into a run, as did a figure he had only just noticed. They were quite a way apart and he wondered how she had seen him, and who it was. It was man, Kai could tell that much and had bright red hair.
"Hey, who's that?" asked Tyson, now pointing in the direction of Selene and the other figure. Kai rolled his eyes, everyone else except Tyson had noticed until now. "What? She's hugging him?! Hilary's sister, the crazy person is hugging someone!" Tyson exclaimed.
Kai looked up to see that Tyson was right, Selene was now embracing the other person, something he had never see her do before. He felt a strange feeling in his chest and quickly tried to suppress it. He couldn't be jealous could he? He shook his head to clear it and then said, "Right, Tyson, Max you'll battle first, then me and Ray. No complaining. I don't care what Selene is up to, it doesn't effect us. Now get to it!"
The others all stared at him, then Tyson started complain about stroppy captains who had no sense of curiosity as he loaded his blade and faced Max by the dish.
Kai took one last look at where Selene still stood and then turned away and called the countdown.
With Selene…
Selene didn't know that the others were watching her as she broke into a sprint a few hundred metres away as did the other person. When they met they embraced and she held him tight, grinning broadly. The other person did this also, then they broke apart.
"What are you doing here Tal?" Selene whispered, still holding onto his hands.
"Well," Tala said, grinning down at her, "I was told you needed some training. Can't have you slacking off now can we?"
Selene laughed, then remembered that the Trainer was still around and she looked around quickly. Tala guessed what she was doing and shook his head, "Do you really think I'd make the mistake of letting people follow me?" he laughed and hugged her again.
"hmm… I guess not." she said doubtfully, then asked, "When did you get here?"
"Yesterday. I thought I'd give you a day off, before I came looking for you." he grinned wolfishly.
"Gee, thanks." she laughed bitterly.
"Why are you wearing that thing? It's not that cold." said Tala, and before she could stop him, he had pulled the jacket off of her, showing her arms which were a mess of half cleaned cuts and bruises. He winced, "Ouch. He got here before me then." Selene nodded and took the jacket back, pulling it on. Tala's eyes brimmed with sympathy and he hugged her again, holding her close. "Why?" he asked.
Selene didn't have to ask what he meant, "I didn't realise Kai was one of Hilary's friends. It was a big shock and, he didn't even remember me! But, I told him. Earlier today. I showed him almost everything of his time with us and then I sent him back to the others. HE saw the whole thing. Said I hadn't learned my lesson and next time it would be worse for me."
"I'm sorry." said Tala, quietly when she'd finished.
"For what?" she asked puzzled.
Tala swallowed and then said, "I knew he knew Hilary. I thought you didn't remember, or you wouldn't see him. I knew and didn't tell you. I wasn't there for you when you needed it either, like I promised."
"But- Tal…" Selene started then took a deep breath, "It doesn't matter anyway. We'll be going back soon anyway and you're here now, that's all that matters."
Tala smiled gratefully at her, but before he could say anything else, another voice called out, "Selene! Long time no see!" They both whirled around to see the remaining Demolition Boys walking towards them, all smiling broadly. Selene rushed up and hugged each one in turn, receiving hugs and high fives in return. When the clamour of talk had died down, Ian spoke, "So, Selene, have you been keeping up on your training?"
Selene grimaced, "It's kind of difficult to do that when Tala's in a different country, Ian."
Ian laughed, "Obviously, so how about a battle?"
"I don't think she should battle you, Ian." Tala said simply, "Wouldn't it be better for her to fight someone with some talent before the tournament?"
Ian growled and flew at Tala, but Selene held him back easily saying, "now, now shorty. There's no need for that is there?" Everyone laughed at Ian's face, Selene was the only one who could call him shorty to his face and get away with it. Then Selene looked up seriously, "It would be better to try other competitors, Tal, I mean, who knows what we're going to come up against in the tournament."
Tala regarded her for a moment and then nodded, "I agree. It would be better Sel, but are you up for it?"
Selene nodded, as the others looked at Tala, confused, when she took off her jacket to their unasked questions, they all nodded in understanding, and Brian stepped forward, holding out his hand, then led Selene away from the others. When they were out of sight he looked at her, eyebrow raised, and she nodded, "I'm ready." then he held out his blade and called his bit beast, then with a quick series of commands, used its power to heal Selene, a feat which was almost impossible for most ordinary people to withstand, but Selene stood there and allowed the bit beast to heal her, mind chatting with it absently as she did so. Within a few minutes they made their way back to the others, Selene as good as new.
"Well, we've decided it would be best for you to battle one of the Bladebreakers, as they're going to be our main competition." said Tala, not looking at her. Selene nodded accepting his reason.
With the Bladebreakers…
"Again, Tyson! Concentrate!" yelled Kenny as Max and Tyson battled.
"I am concentrating, Chief!" he yelled back, taking his eyes of the battle, allowing Max to knock his blade out of the dish easily. "Damn it!" Tyson yelled.
"Don't take your eyes off the battle, remember!" Kenny yelled again.
As Kenny and Tyson entered a shouting match, Hilary pointed ahead to where a group of boys were walking towards them, "Hey guys, who are they?"
Everyone turned around and waited until the group got nearer and then they recognised who it was…
"The Demolition Boys." Kai growled, glaring at them.
"Kai, long time no see." Tala stated, nodding at him, coldly.
"Tala." Kai acknowledged, then acknowledged, Ian, Brian and Spencer with a quick nod.
"What do you want? Another battle? I'll beat you like I did last time!" yelled Tyson angrily, stepping in front of Hilary unconsciously, and holding out his launcher.
"No Tyson, we wish to battle someone else. I know I can beat you. Now, how about you Ray?" Tala said, pointing to the Chinese boy.
Ray looked at Kai for approval, then nodded, stepping up to the dish. Tala did likewise, pulling out his launcher as he did so.
"Hey! That's not Wolborg!" Kenny yelled, setting Dizzy to record, "Ray, he's got a new blade!"
"Impossible!" yelled Tyson, "no one can have two blades!"
"Enough chatter." said Tala, setting the black blade on his launcher. Max yelled the countdown and they both launched. To their surprise, Tala stepped back from the dish, leaving the blade there, still spinning.
"Hey! What are you doing?" asked Max, as they all watched as Tala stood with his team, only a little forward. Before anyone could say anything else, however, there was a black light that exploded from the blade, without being commanded and all the Bladebreakers gasped at what they saw.
There, hovering three feet above the dish, was a girl. She was dressed in a white Greek goddess type dress, with a split up both times, revealing her pale legs to mid thigh. On her head was a silver circlet which had a black stone set in the middle. At her hip was a silver sword, with a black hilt, and in her hands was a long, plain black staff, which had ice blue fire atop of it.
But that was not all, the girl also had wings, in the same design as the top of her staff. Ice blue, but made of fire at the same time. Her long auburn hair flew out behind her on some invisible wind, and her golden eyes surveyed the scene around her.
As the Bladebreakers stood, stunned, the girl shot upwards, then, pointing her staff at Ray's blade, a jet of blue fire shot out and narrowly missed it as Ray recovered himself and called out his Drigger. Ray ordered the great cat to attack, but it was blocked as the girl swung at it with the staff.
The battle continued, Ray attacking and the girl defending, almost toying with the great cat. When Kai saw her smile as yet another attack went wide, he realised this was indeed the case, and yelled at Ray to defend, just in time, as the staff disappeared and in her hand was the sword and she swung it at Drigger.
Drigger only just avoided it, but, whilst the girl recovered, Drigger attacked again, landing a swipe on the girl's side, the white material blossomed with red, and tears sprung into her eyes, she clutched at her side. Tala made to run forward, but the others held him back. He called out, yelling, "Angel, get back!"
The girl ignored him and, recovering, swiped again at the tiger, then, as it made to attack her she pointed at it with both hands, where the sword had gone was anyone's guess, and instantly Drigger was surrounded by ice blue flames and solid red ice.
Drigger looked confused, and Ray was desperately trying to get the tiger to move, when the girl stretched out a hand and Drigger let her put her hand on his back, not having much choice. Then, the tiger seemed to smile as he nuzzled against her hand, and the girl pulled away, reached down and flung the blade from the arena, Drigger disappeared.
Everyone looked up, dumbfounded at the girl who still remained. As they watched, she hovered down to where the beyblade lay and picked it up, then she walked back and passed it to Ray who took it wordlessly. Her hand was cool to the touch, but the fact that he could feel it was strange in a bit beast, who would suffer none but their master's touch usually.
Tala's voice, once again composed, made everyone turn again as he said, "Come on Angel. It's time to go." The girl, however was not listening and ignored him, looking at Hilary, who cowered behind Tyson. The girl (Angel) smiled knowingly, then turned suddenly to Kai, but the sudden movement made her remember her wound and she looked down dismayed to see the once white dress, now blood red. She clutched her side as if in pain, then reached out to Tala, who held out the blade. As soon as the blade and Angel connected she disappeared.
Everyone looked at Tala, stunned, what had just happened? Tyson decided to be the one to question it by yelling, "What the hell was that Tala? Where's Wolborg?"
Tala looked up and smiled grimly, then held out another blade, so everyone could see it was still Wolborg. "In answer to your other question, Tyson, that was our secret weapon. The Angel of Sacrifice. The most powerful bit beast in the universe." With that the Demolition boys walked away from the group without another word.
Then Kenny began typing furiously on the laptop, then stopped triumphantly, "This is all the data on the Angel of Sacrifice here." The others crowded around the screen as Dizzy spoke.
"The Angel of Sacrifice, a bit beast with a tragic past. Once human who died to save some bit beasts, for that she became one to protect. Often appears in the form of an Angel, although its face and body are not seen, just blurred. And that's it Chief."
"Wow! How cool was that bit beast!" Hilary exclaimed, breaking the silence that fell as everyone tried to recall if they knew anything about this bitbeast. The boys looked at her, unimpressed with her remark, "What?" she continued, "It was. That's the first time I've ever seen one that looked so human."
"wait a minute, Chief, I think Hilary has a point." said Ray thoughtfully, everyone turned to look at him, "That Angel or whatever it was, picked up my Drigger. No bit beast can do that, then I felt her hand when she gave it to me. It was cool, but not like ice cold, like a human hand on a cold day."
"I'm sure you just imagined it Ray." Kenny began dismissively, but Kai cut him off.
"Chief, play the battle back." Kenny did so in slow motion.
"There!" said Kai pointing at the screen, "You can see the face of the girl clearly. Also, she wasn't summoned, and didn't attack at first. Why the wait? Why can it control itself, unless Tala has mastered mind control which I doubt." Everyone looked at him nodding, as if agreeing, but wanting him to continue. Kenny continued playing the tape until Hilary stopped Kenny, pointing at the screen.
"Look. When she gets hurt… Look at Tala's face." Everyone looked and saw that Tala looked genuinely worried and was being restrained, something they hadn't noticed before.
"And look!" said Max, "she didn't react like normal bit beasts when she was attacked, look she's holding her side! And there's blood dripping down into the dish!"
"Wait a minute…" said Ray, thinking, "Bitbeasts don't bleed do they?"
"Of course not, Ray," Kenny laughed, "They don't have blood. They can't. It's actually impossible."
Everyone looked from Ray, to the dish, where, sure enough, the bottom of the dish was splashed with blood.
Well thats one more chapter, once again im sorry it took so long, but let me know what you think of it so far!
