Chapter 6- The Legend

"Well, the legend goes that, many many hundreds of years ago, when bit beasts were revered as Gods and goddesses, and humans had not yet found the art of beyblading, there lived a young girl. Her name has been lost, to all but a few, her name in legends became Angel, for she was beautiful and selfless.

Now, as a young child, she met two bit beasts, still young at this time. A radiant Phoenix, with feathers the colour of fire, and eyes the colour of flames.

And a wolf, sleek and elegant, but fierce all the same. Now, in time they became friends with the girl and they met often, and soon they were bringing more of its kind to be introduced to the young girl.

The white Tiger, accepted the girl, and was fiercely protective of her, as tigers are even now.

There was a great turtle who was unsure of this strange child to start, but her smile soon overcame his concerns and they too became friends.

And last was the great wind dragon, one of the greatest of all bit beasts, who did not like her at all. He was angry that his friends would even think of befriending a human girl, and so he would ignore her and refuse to meet with them all.

However, one day, when the girl was reaching her 15th birthday, a messenger came to the village. He brought sad news to them all. There was a powerful mage and his army heading towards them. He had learned the secret of controlling the great beasts, and he was coming to their village for their Gods now. When the girl heard this, she was very scared, and, when the village decided not to oppose this great man, she was even more scared.

On the night before the mage was due to arrive, the important villagers met in a great house and decided to flee the area, before the army came. So, they left. And, when the mage arrived, he found only a few families remaining. When the army attacked, they fought back in vain. The men were enslaved, and the women and children carted off to a remote kingdom.

When all was quiet, the mage turned his attention to the temple, where the great beasts lived. The mage completed a spell of binding, ensuring that the great beasts could not break free. As he moved towards the place, a great fire rose up. This was the Phoenix's doing, and she crouched atop of the temple. Still the mage persisted, and now a ring of solid ice grew up from the ground, before the fire, and not harmed by it. The wolf's doing. Then, the mage laughed as the beasts tried to keep him away by this, and threw up his arms, calling out a great incantation, which he never completed.

Seeing the danger to her friends, Angel was angry. She ran from her hiding place in the nearby trees without thinking of her own safety and ran towards the mage, a hunting knife glinting in her hand. When the mage realised she was there, it was almost too late, he turned on her, surprised, just as she flew at him. He managed to fend her off, just. He was left with a deep gash in his arm, and blood ran down his arm, onto the earth.

Now Angel stood in front of the temple where her friends were trapped and she stood, brandishing her knife. The mage tried many different spells to disarm and hurt her, but Angel dodged most of them. Until, with the last of his strength, the mage hurled a magnificent spell at her, that hit her. The mage slumped, dead, to the ground.

The great beasts came out of their temple, relinquished from the spell that had kept them trapped, and went to their friend. Angel lay on the ground, face waxy white. Cold to the touch. Dead.

And the great beasts mourned their friend, even the great dragon, who joined them when the commotion was done. Their tears fell onto the girl, red fire drops from the phoenix, ice droplets from the wolf, water from the turtle, dark earth drops from the tiger, and the dragon's tears, a shiny blue fell also. As they stood around the girl, the most wondrous thing happened.

Where their tears had fallen together, and touched, a change was happening. The buzz of magic in the air confused them and they moved away from her, just as she took a deep breath and, to their surprise, Angel rose. But she did not walk, from her back grew great wings, and her eyes turned golden. And she called to her friends in wonder. They came forward and the great dragon spoke.

"Our tears have brought you back from beyond. But you are human no more. A power more than ourselves are at work, and it has brought you back to be one of us. You are now a Great Beast and shall join us in whatever battles we may face, for it seems that you are destined to be more powerful than perhaps life itself. For you have been beyond and returned. And, with our tears we give you a portion of our powers to aid you in your fight. For you will not have an easy existence. You are no longer yourself you are us, and all, as we are all and us. You are the Angel of Sacrifice. In recognition of your great triumph here."

"And so," concluded Selene, "She joined her friends, but she could not protect them from being mastered, and it is said that she now roams the earth, freeing those beasts who have evil masters and ensuring the rest are in good hands. It is said that only one who has sacrificed knowingly, and is pure and worthy in heart may wield this beast."

Selene looked around, a genuine smile gracing her face as she saw they all sat enthralled in what she had said. They all looked slightly dazed, even Hilary who had heard this story many times before.

"Wow!" breathed Tyson, "Tell us another one!" everyone laughed, which drew them out of their dazed state.

"How do you know that story? I've never heard it!" asked Kenny, who had allowed Dizzy to record the story.

Selene smiled, "Let's just say I know a lot of old tales."

"But, if it is real, then why do the Demolition Boys have control of her?" Ray asked thoughtfully.

"Who says they have control." Kai stated.

"Explain, Kai." said Kenny.

"Well, if the person has had to sacrifice, then maybe the person who wields it is being controlled by the Abbey." Kai said.

Everyone nodded in agreement, except Selene, who said quietly, "Well, Hils, I'm going to bed. See you in the morning." and left.

Everyone stared after her in amazement, Was Selene actually being nice? They all wondered, except Kai, who found himself thinking how sweet it was and how cute Selene had looked when… hey enough of that! He ordered himself, mentally.
