Chapter 14- Revelations

"… we haven't seen her for days, Mr D!" Tyson was saying to the clearly concerned head of the BBA. Mr Dickenson was regarding the Bladebreakers in front of them, all of them, even Kai looked concerned.

"Well, Tyson, perhaps she needs a little time to herself, maybe she's been seeing other friends and has forgotten to inform you, an oversight on her part I'm sure." Mr D was saying, smiling at them, although he was quite concerned himself. "But, as it is indeed worrying, I shall have some people look for her before the matches today."

"Ask the Demolition Boys! I bet one of them knows where she is!" Tyson fumed.

"Now, now, Tyson, you can't go around accusing people without proof. The Demolition Boys are quite reformed, are they not?" Mr D said and Tyson growled in frustration, "Now, I'll get some people onto finding her, and why don't you go and watch the match?" Ray nodded and pushed Tyson out of the room.

"But I know it's them!" Tyson yelled to his team mates, "We can't go and watch a stupid match, when Hilary could be dead or something!"

Kai grabbed hold of Tyson and shook him firmly, "In fact Tyson, it's the best thing we can do. If they know you know, then Hilary will be dead. We can go and see if there's anything unusual in their match today. Then we'll know for sure." he said, looking Tyson in the face.

"So, you think it was them too?" Tyson asked, quieter.

"I didn't say that." said Kai, "But I'll bet on it."

The others watched this exchange in amazement, for once Kai was being, well, nice to Tyson? Kai saw them looking and glared at them all before walking away to his seat.

"Did Kai Hiwatari just agree with me?" Tyson asked dumbfounded.

"I think he just did." said Max in wonder.

Ray chuckled slightly, "Well, come on, before Kai shows his normal self again and we all get extra training." he said and they all ran after their Captain.

"…Today's match is between the one and only White Tigers!" loud cheers and applause could be heard throughout the stadium, "And the Demolition Boys!"

Kai watched as both teams entered the arena. He could tell instantly that something was different. Selene was walking slightly behind Tala still, but her eyes were cold and determined. Whilst the rest of the team sat on the bench, Tala and Selene continued to where DJ stood and spoke quietly to him. He nodded slightly confused but then shrugged. Clearing his throat he spoke, "Well… it seems as though the Demolition Boys wish to have their new, untested member fight all three battles! Now, this is within the rules, so I guess this could be exciting!"

Kai and the others looked at each other. If they needed further proof of unusual acts, this was it. As Kai turned back he was in time to see Selene finish a conversation on a mobile phone, and throw it down to the floor, glaring at it. Tala looked at her and Selene shook her head at him. Then she walked up to the dish. Mariah walked up to face her. Neither girl made a pretence of friendliness.

DJ yelled the countdown and both girls launched. Mariah's pink blade spinning fast, attempted to knock Selene's black one out before it even landed. It didn't work. Selene's blade easily avoided the hit. Mariah frowned, that move usually worked!

"Cat scratch attack!" yelled Mariah. Ray's eyebrows shot up, Mariah was taking no chances here. There was no way a blade could avoid that attack! And yet… when the smoke cleared, Selene's blade was still in place, it had not been moved an inch, nor been knocked off balance.

Mariah looked in shock at the still spinning blade and tried again, "Lynx claw attack!" This time, instead of staying in place, Selene's blade moved on its own, knocking Mariah's off course, the attack was now aimed at the blader and Mariah jumped aside to avoid it. "Right, you want to play dirty? Then let's do this!" Mariah yelled and was about to call on her bit beast again, when Selene simply yawned and her blade flew out of the arena. As it flew an invisible force seemed to crush it and the blade landed in splinters at Mariah's feet.

"And Selene wins!" DJ said in a shocked voice.

Mariah collected the tiny pieces and ran back to her team. They comforted her, whilst Selene merely stood there looking at them disdainfully. Lee walked up to the dish.

"And now, we have Lee vs. Selene! I wonder what will happen in this match?" DJ yelled. The crowd was silent as the countdown was called. Both bladers launched, Lee with a yell of victory, Selene with a silent action.

Lee wasted no time, immediately going on the defensive, determined to beat this girl. Selene smirked when she saw this and shook her head.

"You have a problem?" Lee yelled, noticing.

"Predictable." Selene said so that he could hear and smirked wider as Lee became even more offensive.

In the stands Kai was watching intently, alert for any sudden trick that the Demolition Boys might pull. He noticed Lee releasing even more power into attacks that seemed to merely touch the other blade that stood, still spinning in the centre of the dish. But as he watched he saw Lee call out Galeon and one of his attacks severely knocked Selene's blade. Kai saw Selene's look of surprise, that quickly flashed into terror as she glanced behind her. Tala looked grim even from where Kai was sat. Then he saw him nod and Selene's attention immediately returned to the battle.

But Lee had noticed her wandering attention, and had pressed his advantage. Indeed Selene's blade was almost falling from the dish, yet was strangely holding its own, without the attention of it's wielder.

Kai watched Selene turn to the battle again, and saw her whole body began to shake. He thought at first it was anger, but that did not match up with the look of determination on her face. Then to his amazement, and everyone else's in the crowd, she began to rise of the ground. At the same time, her hair lost its blue streaks and became an intense auburn colour, flying out behind her. Then he watched astonished as her clothing seemed to melt away and change into what seemed to be armour atop a black Greek goddess type dress, with splits that reached mid thigh on both sides. Behind her wings seemed to be forming of an ice blue fire. Her eyes turned a deep golden colour.

"It's not possible!" exclaimed Kenny, breathlessly.

"What's not possible?" asked Tyson, not entirely sure what was happening.

"Selene… it… er… The Angel of Sacrifice." stammered Kenny, unsure what to say.

Tyson snorted in disbelief but it was cut off as a silver sword appeared at Selene's side, and a long black staff in her hands. "Oh my god." he said, catching on.

"But it can't be true! It's actually impossible!" cried Kenny, his voice sounding loud in the silence.

"Well, I think it is possible." remarked Ray, wondering what was going to happen next.

Lee looked up at the girl he had just been facing. Surprised and confused. It was still recognisably Selene, but she suddenly seemed a lot more dangerous than anyone he had every faced before.

"Don't let her touch your bit beast Lee!" Ray yelled running down to join his former team.

"Wha- Ray? Why not?" Lee asked, not taking his eyes from the dish.

"Because she can freeze them!" Ray shouted.

Selene chuckled, bringing back the attention to her, "I can do much more than that, Ray! I could freeze Galeon if I wished…" she said extending her staff and freezing the lion momentarily, "Or I could drown the kitten," and again she demonstrated, swamping the dish with water. Just when it seemed too much, the water disappeared, "Bury him." and a great mountain of earth fell from the staff, covering the blade, "Or one of my favourites…" and her staff disappeared, and jets of flame shot towards the now defenceless bit beast.

Lee tried in vain to move his blade from its path, but the fire hit it and the bit beast let out a piercing cry and disappeared, the blade shattered, the pieces disintegrating in the heat from the relentless flames still emitting from Selene's hands.

"Selene! Stop!" Kai yelled, running forward towards the dish.

Selene turned to look at him as if only just noticing him, "Why should I?" she asked, ignoring the angry shouting from around her.

"Because this isn't you! You aren't like this!" Kai tried to reason with her.

"And how would you know that, traitor?" She retorted, watching him with her now golden eyes.

"Because I know you!"

Selene laughed but it sounded bitter, "Not any more, traitor, you haven't known me for years!"

At this point Tala approached the dish and reached out to her. Selene seemed startled by the sudden contact and jumped physically away from him, directing the fire at him instead, before she realised who it was. Everyone watched wide-eyed at this as Tala maintained contact. However, instead of being burnt and hospitalized, nothing happened. He was completely unscathed.

Then, Selene began to shake again, this time more violently than before. Her clothing changed back to her original outfit, her wings and weapons disappeared and she now stood at ground level. Her hair now seemed to have gained yet another blue streak.

"And the erm… Demolition Boys win this round." announced DJ, somewhat nervously. No applause greeted this, and the Demolition Boys left the arena before any one else.

Kai, however, again ran after them, catching up before they'd gone too far. He grabbed Selene's arm and pulled her round to face him, "What the hell was that?" he yelled.

"That, was none of your business!" she retorted, coolly. The rest of the team stood only a few steps away, behind her, watching them.

"What happened to you? How?" Kai asked, confused, watching her closely.

"I changed." she replied simply, "Genetic experimentation. Linked irreversibly and completely with my bit beast."

"But it's impossible."

"Evidently not." she replied smiling quickly, and winking at him, before reverting to her cold face again.

"How long?" he asked quietly after a pause.

"ten years." she replied, "It would have happened sooner if we had not had to waste time training Tala to replace you."

Kai seemed shocked. Selene pulled away from him and left with her team. When they had gone from sight, Kai reached into his trouser pocket and pulled out the paper Selene had slipped into his pocket when she had smiled. He read it and his stomach dropped.

Kai, Hilary training place. Locked away. W8 hotel from 6pm 2morro. We will bring her 2 u. DON'T TRY A RESCUE!

And there was two more words scribbled hastily at the bottom of the paper: Sorry Kai.
