Chapter 15- Rescue gone wrong!
"I told you! I told you!" Tyson was saying. Kai had brought them the note and each of the Bladebreakers read it one by one. Not everyone was so gleeful as Tyson.
"What if it's a trap, Kai?" asked Ray, passing the paper to Kenny who read it quickly and agreed.
"But… it's Hilary! If we don't go…" Tyson couldn't continue. Max patted his friend's shoulder in understanding.
"Ray does have a point though Tyson." Max said. Before Tyson could reply, Max continued, "Well, hasn't it always been Kai that Boris and Voltaire want? What if they're trying to get him again?"
Tyson contemplated this, then jumped up, "Well, in that case WE go to THEM!"
"Didn't you read the note?" Kenny asked, "Something could go wrong if we do that."
"No!" said Tyson, "They want us to wait around for Hilary, then they'll capture Kai. BUT if we do it our way, we go in there and rescue her- They don't get what they want either way!"
Max nodded agreement, "It makes sense, Kai, this way we have a better chance if they do want to capture you, we'll be meeting them on our terms not theirs."
"Well, Kai, you're Captain, what do you think?" Tyson asked.
Kai looked from one face to the other, only Kenny showed any hesitation in accepting Tyson's plan. Then he nodded, "We'll try." he said. Tyson whooped in excitement, "BUT" Kai cut him off, "No one goes in alone and we observe unless I say otherwise, got it?"
They all nodded, and began preparing for the next evening.
Meanwhile, Tala and Selene were making their way back to their hotel room. Once they were safely inside, Tala turned to her, "So what did you tell him?" he asked.
Selene looked taken aback, "Nothing you didn't hear, Tala." she said, trying to escape his piercing gaze.
"You're lying, Why?" Selene shook her head, protesting her innocence. Tala snorted, "I know you're lying, You forget I know you very well. So what's the plan?"
Selene sighed, knowing she couldn't lie to Tala, "I gave him a message, I'm going to get Hilary out of here tonight. She'll be safe with Kai, as long as she isn't on her own."
Tala sat down next to her, making her turn to face him, "But why didn't you tell me?"
"Because I didn't want any of you to get hurt!" she exclaimed as if it were obvious, "I'll have a better chance on my own. Besides, what kind of friend would I be if I let you help me in what will probably be a losing situation?" she smiled at him sadly.
"Well you don't have a choice now. I know, and therefore, I'm going to help you."
"But Tala-!" she protested but he shook his head.
"I can be just as stubborn as you when I want to be, I'm helping, so deal with it." he told her.
Selene grinned, rolling her eyes. Secretly she was glad Tala had offered to help, at least this way she had a better chance of getting Hilary out.
So they sat down together to talk over the plans for the following night…
Meanwhile, someone had overheard their conversation and the boy listening at the door crept silently away after hearing everything. He made his way out of the hotel, towards a nearby alleyway. When he got there, he took out a mobile phone and dialled a number. When the other person picked up, he told them everything. When he was done, he crept back towards the hotel, thoroughly pleased with himself, knowing he'd be getting a reward very soon.
The next day, everything went according to normal. The Demolition Boys trained tirelessly, watched and instructed by a seemingly happy Trainer. Selene wondered why he seemed so happy, but the others put it down to her great victory the day before.
The Bladebreakers, meanwhile were making last minute adjustments to their plans, and getting together anything they might need. Kai had followed the Demolition Boys when they left their hotel that morning so they now knew exactly where the training ground was. As 5 o'clock crept closer, they all followed Kai until they could see the building. Then they all clustered together.
"You know the plan?" Kenny asked, watching each of them apprehensively. They all nodded, "Right, then I'll try my best to override their systems." He typed for a short while then said, "I can control the exits and entrances. Good luck!" The team shared one last look before splitting up. Max and Tyson made their way to one side of the building and Kai and Ray went the opposite way.
Max and Tyson reached the door that Kai had mentioned and, pushed against it, sure enough it gave way, opening to reveal a dark corridor. The boys walked in slowly and warily, but no booted feet could be heard running towards them, no cries of alarms. Everything was silent. They high fived each other for luck and proceeded.
Kai and Ray, meanwhile were stood by a window. Kai launched Dranzer and instructed the bit beast to burn a hole through the glass. Dranzer did so, making short work of this and Kai helped Ray up through the hole, before climbing in himself. The room they had entered was covered in numerous scientific machines and medical equipment. Kai shuddered, knowing this would be part of the infirmary. Ray noticed Kai's shudder and put a hand on his shoulder. Kai nodded and focused on the job at hand. Locating Hilary.
Whilst this was going on outside, the Demolition Boys had finished their training and were eating in a small room. Selene glanced at the clock on the wall and got up. Tala saw this and followed. The two guards at the door looked around as they walked towards them.
"Hey! Sit down!" one ordered, surprised.
Neither said anything further, Tala hit one causing him to drop to the floor, bleeding. Selene did the same.
"Hey guys! What're you doing?" asked Bryan as they opened the door.
"We're gonna go get Hilary." Selene grinned and Bryan grinned in reply, then he, Spencer and Ian followed them. "We'll help you then." he said. And with that they set off down the corridor. When they reached a fork in the corridors, Selene turned to them and said, "You guys go that way and distract anyone coming from that way. Me and Tal will go this way." They nodded and separated from the group.
Meanwhile, Tyson and Max were running along, throwing open doors trying to find Hilary. "Not here!" called Max, as he threw open a room which was empty.
"Not here either!" Tyson growled, but then turned back to the room he had just opened, "Hey Maxie! Maybe we can use these to track her down!" Max ran over to him and looked inside. It was a room with hundreds of computer terminals.
Max grinned, and called Kenny. Within seconds they were looking through the files looking for references of Hilary. After a few painstaking minutes, Tyson jabbed a finger at the screen, "There! In the high security cells!"
"Yes!" Max said and they high-fived again, before running out of the room in the completely wrong direction.
At the same moment, Kai and Ray were getting to closer to Hilary's cell. Kai had reasoned that she would be put in the centre of the building, under security. As they got closer, they heard footsteps heading towards them. They dashed into a nearby room, but not quick enough.
"Kai! What are you doing here?" Bryan asked as he, Spencer and Ian slid to a stop.
"What do you think we're doing?" Kai retorted, rolling his eyes.
Bryan rubbed his head with his hand, "Did Selene tell you to come here?" he asked exasperatedly.
"No." replied Kai, "We came on our own."
"Well if you're here to save Hilary, you might as well come with us." Spencer said.
"Like hell will we!" Kai said, getting into a fighting stance.
Spencer shook his head, "Not as prisoners, Kai! We're trying to get Hilary out too!"
Kai looked at him suspiciously, Bryan nodded, "It's true Kai, We're helping Selene."
"So she was telling the truth." remarked Ray. Kai glared at him and he fell silent.
"Fine. But you go ahead, I don't want to get jumped by all of you five minutes down the corridor." Kai said and the now bigger group set off again.
"Are you sure this is going to work?" Tala asked Selene as they raced towards the cell.
"It has to. I promised." she replied and skidded to a halt outside a cell. Inside, Hilary was laying asleep on a narrow bed. Using the security passes swiped from the guards earlier, Selene undid the electrical locks and wrenched the door open. Hilary jumped to her feet yelling, "Leave me alone!"
"Hils! It's me!" Selene replied, grabbing her sister's hands, "We're getting you out of here." she explained.
Hilary smiled gratefully and hugged her sister tightly, "I didn't think you'd come." she whispered.
"You're my sister, of course I would." Selene replied, then pushed Hilary away from her and dragged her out of the door. "Come on Tal, let's get her out of here!"
With that they ran back the way they had just come, slower now as Hilary couldn't run as fast as the other two.
"I think we're going the wrong way Tyson!" Max yelled as they ran.
"I know where I'm going!" Tyson replied and turned another corner.
"Stop there!" a guard shouted and Kai and co skidded to a halt, only a few metres away from the guard who was brandishing a gun at them.
"What are you boys doing out here?" another guard demanded, pointing at Bryan, Spencer and Ian. None of the replied. "Right, you're coming with us!" said the second guard again.
"You can't take us! We outnumber you!" Ray yelled, trying to remind the others of this fact.
"I think you'll find it's the other way around." said a new voice. The boys whirled around to find themselves completely surrounded.
"Trainer." Bryan breathed, and Kai could feel the Demolition boys stiffen at his voice.
"Now, if you will kindly come with us…" Trainer said and they were led down the corridor to a huge room. It was plain, with only barriers encircling the floor.
"Now, I think there's been enough running around, don't you?" Trainer said, and spoke into a walky talky, "Round them up."
