Blackest of the Night

By Adele Peterson

"I don't care," I said. I just wanted to be done with this conversation so I could get back to my music. I wasn't even paying all that much attention to my mom, Renee.

"Well, it's decided then. You're going to live with your dad." Renee said.

"Wait, what?" That wasn't where I thought this conversation was going. No! Living with Charlie? But why? And in Forks? I didn't mind the weather so much, then I wouldn't have to explain why I always wear long sleeves; it was the fact that the town had a population of about 200.

"You weren't even listening to me, were you Bella?" she questioned me, just like she always does. I don't understand why she even asks. I always say the same thing anyway.

"Sure Mom, I'm listening."

"Okay then, it's final. You're flight leaves tomorrow night, so go pack your things." Renee basically commanded me.

"Whatever," I said, and ran upstairs to my room and slammed the door. I can't believe she's making me move in with Charlie! Why? I thought I had been good. I do well in school, I do what she tells me to do, and I never complain to her. I don't show emotion in front of her, and I hardly ever ask for anything. How can she do this to me? Doesn't she know what Charlie is like?

I got my old piece of glass from between my mattresses and grabbed my iPod and turned it up as loud as it would go. I watched as the crimson red flowed down my arms. I always feel so peaceful and relaxed when I do this.

As soon as the second song was over, I went into my bathroom and cleaned off my arms and the piece of glass and returned it under my mattress.

I tried going to sleep. I just couldn't stop thinking about how I was going to be living with Charlie in a little more than 24 hours.

I got back up and got my one single suitcase out and started packing. Almost all the clothes I own fit into my suitcase. My wardrobe basically consists of jeans, long sleeved t-shirts, tennis shoes, and sweatshirts. I was done within a half hour.

I went to bed again and drifted into a deep, dreamless sleep.
