Once Cherished

§ I'm giving up on you, little demon.

All glory past & pity's done.

Well now I'm giving up on you, little demon.

Aren't you happy no one's won?

See now, see now…

§ Just how your ignorance has severed our ties?

Into the night I hear your fearful cries…

Alas, little girl, our lives have unraveled.

Mourn the many paths untraveled.

Oh, my little, naïve princess…

§ Once upon a time we shared inseparable bond.

Used to be oh-so-proud, of you I was so fond.

'Til you left & stole it selfishly away.

I wander dark hallways at night, rot alone at day.

Whoever will protect you now?

§ Men are liars.

Given into their desires

Without a thought to broken promise to you.

Monsters in the street & at your back- no one to help you.

Hear you cry for me- my once cherished.

§ But I'm giving up on you, little demon.

All glory past & pity's done.

Well now I'm giving up on you, little demon.

Aren't you happy no one's won?

See now, see now…

§ Feel you reach for me, my once cherished. ©

For me, this poem is about someone I was close to who moved on. Later on they realized that they'd needed me more than I needed them, even though it seems like the other way around at first. I keep saying how they cry out & try to get my help but I never say whether I give it to them or not.

The thing that I like about poetry is that it can mean something different for everyone; there's no wrong interpretation. Please review & tell me what you think!
