Act Four

A Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead Fan Fiction

By:DaggerQuill

Guildenstern was alone, standing in the middle of an abyss. He was frantically looking around with a desperate countenance at the white mist surrounding him.

He called into the emptiness "Guildenstern?"

Rosencrantz was in the same state and setting. He looked around slowly, a confused expression on his face as he called out, "Rosencrantz?"

Guildenstern frantically walked in circles looking in all directions, still calling "Rosencrantz?"

Still searching, Rosencrantz called again "Guildenstern?" When no one replied he sighed, and sat down with his head in his hands.

Guildenstern suddenly tripped over Rosencrantz and fell over. Rosencrantz greeted him warmly, glad to see another person. "Hello! How are you?"

Guildenstern pushed himself off the ground looking at Rosencrantz with a curious expression. "Do I know you? What's your name?"

Rosencrantz found himself confused by the question "Um.....What's your name?"

"Heads or tails?" Guildenstern asked.

"It's always heads, isn't it?"

Guildenstern was surprised by the response. "What makes you think that?"

"Perhaps I'm mad?" Said Rosencrantz.

"Or Melancholy?" Agreed Guildenstern.

"Is there a difference?"

"Perhaps not," Guildenstern said and they were both silent for a moment, pondering this.

"Am I dead?" Rosencrantz asked after a moment.

"Of course your not," Guildenstern reasoned. "You're here."

"Why are we here?"

Guildenstern thought for a moment, he vaguely remembered… "I have this letter," he began to search his pockets, "it explains everything." He said, his voice growing more confident. "We're to give it to the king."

"Am I the King?"

"I don't believe so." Guildenstern said looking Rosencrantz over. "Are you an actor?"

"Oh, no," Rosencrantz laughed. "I could never be an actor now, times being what they are."

"I see."

"Do you?"

"Not really." Guildenstern admitted absently, searching his pockets frantically now. "And I can't find that blasted letter. Where could it have gone?"

"It ran off with Pirates?" Rosencrantz suggested.

"Or was it the Prince?" Guildenstern wondered aloud.

"To England?"

"No," Guildenstern said in a serious voice, "there is nothing in England but death."

"Are you sure we're not dead?" Rosencrantz asked.

"We can't be, can we?" Guildenstern reasoned. "We're here."

"But where is here?"

Guildenstern gave up his search, his hands dropping to his sides as he sighed looking around at the emptiness. "Nowhere," He concluded.
