My Father's Words
My name is Li Syaoran. I'm 21 years old, and in the past seven years, I have learnt and experienced many difficult situations that my father tried to prevent from happening. My father was an old man who always seemed foul and who would scold at me for every little deed that I did wrong. But now I have come to learn that I should have respected his words and wisdom. I regret what happened that day when I ran away from home.
Since that day, I have lived to become independent but with such little knowledge my life was twice as hard.
Those painful days started one night after the big fight, which happened after school.
I got into a huge fight with some kids, who mocked my dad being a drunkard.
My father kept nagging me for hours because of the stupid decision that I made at that time.
As he went on, he added other things about how my school grades were getting worse and how I never helped around the house.
I was becoming a lot more irritated as he continued to speak about my poor actions. "I'm not the one who is always drinking and being self-centered!!" I suddenly retorted at him with anger.
"Do you know how hard it is for me after your mother's death!!!" My father answered, while yelling back at me.
"You're not the only one that has been depressed about it!! – Stop being such a hypocrite and change yourself before you try to change me!!!" I yelled back without thinking.
As I ran out of the house, I was so furious and self-absorbed about myself that I didn't try and think about how my dad felt.
That night was cold and empty as I walked through the streets that lead to nowhere.
It started to rain, but I didn't care. I just continued walking, in the rain, while thinking about the fight with my father. I started to regret the words I said to him.
I decided what I should do from now on, the best choice right now was to run away and disappear for a while.
I thought what I said was unforgivable, but I knew I wasn't wrong.
After the seven years, I visited my father's grave for the first time from after he died.
I watched the stone that was engraved with my father's name. Just like that day, rain began to fall, but I didn't care, because it covered my tears that rolled down my face.
