He was so focused on somehow saving her that he didn't notice Tobias coming up in back of him holding a whip.
Severus yelped as the whip made contact with his skin. He felt the blood going through his shirt and could hear Tobias yelling,
"Boy, stop sniveling! One more sound and you'll wish you'd never been born!"
Severus shut up immediately and ran outside. His legs carried him to the playground where he had met the beautiful Lily Evans. The one who captured his heart. She hated him though. He had accidentally called her a 'mudblood' and their friendship had ended.
If she was here he could talk to her, and she'd help. She had always made him feel better, and she had brought him healing salves, and creams to make him feel better after his father beat him. He was sure no one could hear him so he said to the sky,
"I swear, I will never become my father." As he said this a stray tear slipped from his eye. Mourning his mother, and his lost best friend.
