Inspired partly by an interaction between Leah and Rachel in Hope Shalott's Flutter, which is insanely better then anything I've ever written in my life, as are all her fics, so go check it out :)
She's not supposed to be here. She knows it better then anyone. Better then Jacob, who was too busy swooning over his own imprint to pay any attention to his sister's welfare. Better then Billy, who has some idea about his daughter's dreams (or the memory of them anyway- she doesn't dream anymore) but he's a werewolf at heart, even if he isn't actually one, and the pack's welfare is the most important thing in Billy's mind. He would never understand, and she doesn't blame it for him. They all have their faults.
Then there's Rebecca, who believes that love conquers all, and who cares if Rachel had never wanted to live in La Push? Rebecca doesn't even know the whole story and yet she's still on their side.
Then there's Paul, and she can remember when they were growing up and there was nothing there, no sexual attraction at all and she wonders what the hell this imprint thing is based on? Because Sam and Leah had been happy and Claire is 4 years old and as far as she knows Jared hadn't looked twice at Kim before, so maybe this is all some kind of cosmic joke, slapping together two people who had nothing in common and fooling them into thinking there was love buried somewhere deep within them that they could never have found on their own.
Paul doesn't notice, and if he does, he doesn't pay attention. To him, it was enough that the fate's had put them together. It was enough that he loved her and she loved him. He didn't need to know why they loved each other.
But it wasn't enough for her. La Push had never been enough for her.
She knew she didn't belong here. She belonged in the city, in a large company where people respected her and called her Miss Black and brought her black coffee. She was meant to wear expensive suits and heels that click clacked when she walked.
She loved Paul. She loved Paul with everything she had in her. She would have done anything for him.
But if she had the chance, she would go back to that fateful day when she saw him and she would make it so she never saw him and he never saw her.
Things would have been so much easier.
Yeah, Rachel Black is fighting imprinting. Sing it to the tune of Sexy Back. 'I'm fighting imprinting... YEAH (yeah).'
