I don't own anything.
The last scene of tonight's episode irritated me. Rossi so said the wrong things. So I'm writing it my way. This is what he should've said.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"I should have married Emma. But when I got out of the military, I was recruited by the bureau, and I got so caught up in starting the BAU, that a whole life passed me by." Rossi said quietly.
"I know." Hotch replied.
"It can be different for you." Rossi told his colleague.
"What do you mean?" Hotch asked.
"I mean Emily. I've seen the way you two look at each other." Rossi replied.
"I don't--" Hotch began, flicking his eyes toward Emily, who happened to be looking at him.
"Hotch, you're not fooling anyone. Sure, your marriage to Hayley didn't work out so well. But you can have a second chance with Emily. Go for it. Don't pass up this opportunity for happiness. It might be your last shot." Rossi said.
"But what about Jack?" Hotch asked.
"Just because you start over with Emily doesn't mean you give up your son. It just means he gets a step mom." Rossi said. "Seriously, Hotch, don't pass this up."
"Okay, I'll think about it." Hotch told Rossi.
"Good." Rossi said curtly.
Hotch looked back at Emily, who was talking to a traumatized J.J. He smiled, and knew that he'd do more than think about it. He'd act on it.
