Three days.

Natalie Teeger felt as though the life had been sucked out of her as she stood beside her boss's hospital bed and listened to the doctor. Someone had poisoned Adrian, and if they were right, he would die within three days.

Without thinking about it, she reached out and rested her hand over his, not noticing the strange look he gave her. She couldn't lose him. After everything that they had been through together, after nearly losing him once before... Her heart raced dangerously.

The doctor finally left them alone in the room, and a tear rolled down Natalie's cheek. Who was doing this? Why? Those questions and a thousand more raced through her mind, but they were pushed aside as he turned his hand in hers and gently closed his fingers around hers. She looked down at their entangled hands and swallowed a sob.

Monk looked at her, then at the wall. For the first time in his life, he didn't know what to say.

"Mr. M-" She stopped herself. "Adrian..."

He looked up at her.

Before she could stop herself, she wrapped her arms around him tightly and rested her chin on the top of his head.

Monk tensed, but slowly relaxed in her arms and closed his eyes.

She held him tighter and cried silent tears. How could she ever let him go? Over the last five years, he had found his way into her well guarded heart, and now she couldn't remember what it was like not having him there.

Her hand moved up and gently cradled his head. No, she couldn't let him go. She loved him too much to just give up without a fight. Breathing deeply, she brushed her lips against his temple.

They were going to fight, and they were going to win, because if they didn't... She trembled and held him tighter.

If they didn't, she would lose her mind.

The End.

A/N: There. My preemptive strike. LOL. And that's only the first one! I've got a few more ideas up my sleeve, and I'm totally excited about writing them! Thanks for reading, and please remember to review!
