It was a great day for Kat Stratford. She and her sister were two of the most popular girls in school. They were both in band, Kat playing the clarinet, Bianca playing the flute. They both played soccer and lacrosse, and both were a force to be reckoned with if you got them mad. They both also were on the student council. Kat was the president, and a senior, while Bianca was a junior.
Today there was a new student coming. It was a small school that they attended, so everyone knew when someone new was coming. The school only had about 800 people in it. The new kid's name was Patrick. Apparently he was one of the most popular kids in his old school in California.
"Hey Bianca! Have you heard about the new kid?" Kat asked her.
"Yep. You wanna go and say hello? We probably should, you know how we would feel if we weren't welcomed at our new school if we moved."
So Kat and Bianca started toward the new kid. Everyone else in their path moved to the sides of the hallway. No one wanted to be the ones that Kat and Bianca were going towards.
Patrick was confused. Why was everyone moving out of the way for someone? Why were people shooting glances at him? Was he in trouble, and if so, for what? Then he noticed two girls coming his way, with devious smiles on their faces.
"Hello. You are the new kid, right?" asked the older one.
"Yes…" he replied. He was nervous.
"Your name, please?" asked the younger one, while rolling her eyes. "… and while you're at it, tell us about yourself… and no, I do not mean in terms of parents and crap, I mean in terms of your old school."
"Umm… I'm Patrick Verona. I was the running back for my football team back at Padua High School in California. I was also student body vice president. I'm a senior."
"Well, Patrick Verona, I am Kat Stratford and this is my sister Bianca. I am a senior and student body president. Bianca is also on the student council. She is a junior. We both play soccer and lacrosse and we are the ones to decide who actually is popular or not. You pass the test. You are popular. Be happy and prosper." The taller, older, dark haired one said, then both her and her sister turned and walked away, and everyone started talking and moving around again.
"What was that about," he mumbled to himself, then went to his first class, Economics.
