Endless Stars: Prologue

"Blue team, come in, blue team," the transmitter sneered over the loud sound of roaring flames. One man stayed hidden in a ditch to protect himself from these deadly creatures. Several men also huddled into the narrow shelter, nearly dead. He reached into one of his fallen comrade's pocket and dug out the communicator calling for him.

"Blue team over," he whispered with barely enough breath to make out the words.

"Status report, blue team," he ordered. The man took a second to release the fear that rose within him a few minutes ago.

"Couple of men down, many more with fatal injuries," he sighed. "The target already retreated. This battle should be over in minutes."

"Very good," he paused. "Where is your commander?"

"Out in the open as usual, sir."

"Tell him to report back once it's over."

"Yes sir, blue team out."

"You called?" the commander reported back at their base.

"I have some good and bad news for you," he responded.

"Regarding the war?"

"The war…and your family." The commander remained silent.

"Good news is that the infant turned out to be a boy. Hirarii said that he has your eyes." The commander smiled. It has been over a year since he last saw his family. Knowing that the new born baby turned out fine made his heart pound with peace: something he hasn't seen for a very long time.

"The bad news is," he continued. "I'm sending her over."

"You're what!?" he yelled.

"I'm sorry, we don't have a choice. The war's getting too serious now."

"You said she wouldn't have to come if I took her place!"

"Hirarii agreed to it."

"Of course she would! She's your knight! But she has children to take care of! Do you want them to grow up without parents?!"

"She'll leave them in the care of Keturah. She'll be over at headquarters tomorrow and by next week her army should meet up with yours at Showa Town."

"FangBlade!"

"Tiger," he paused. "Please pull yourself together. I know how you feel. I didn't want to drag her into something like this either, that's why I dismissed her services years ago. Tiger, we have no choice. I already brought Shynobi and Dolob into this, and soon I probably will have to send Keturah over too. You do understand the situation we're in now right?"

"…Yea…." Tiger frowned. "Fang…when will this all be over?"

"I wish I knew," FangBlade sighed. "It all depends on how long it takes to catch him. If I told you my guess, you wouldn't be very happy."
