Annabeth sat on the corner of her bed, thinking. She had had an amazing year; the camp was safe, she had amazing friends, and eventually, an amazing boyfriend too. She still couldn't believe how good she had it, yet by the time she finally started to appreciate it all, it ended. She ended it. Even she didn't fully know why; her life was perfect on the surface. But deep down, she knew that something about this just couldn't work. And now it was over forever.

And how I lost you and your brown eyes

Yes, she loved him. And yes, she left him. Why, you ask? Because Annabeth Chase is strong. She new that Percy wouldn't love her forever, so she left. She had to. And even though she wished that she could stay with Percy forever, she couldn't.

Got some brown eyes but I saw her face
I knew that it was wrong

The worst part of it all was that part that she really didn't want to admit to herself – that she had been replaced. By that thing. Rachel. But Annabeth kept telling herself that she didn't care. She was the bigger person here, because she left & told him that she wouldn't be his doormat anymore. It was just wrong. Annabeth Chase knows better than that.

Sure, they were the 'wonder-couple', but underneath they just didn't work. "It was never your fault." Percy had told Annabeth. "It was me. I just can't commit to this right now." And so he cheated on her. Sure, Annabeth hurt over it, but she was older now. She could cope. Maybe.

Honey yeah, it's no surprise that I got lost in your brown eyes

Then finally, on that fateful night, they had said goodbye. She had made her point, and he his, and they went their separate ways. He said he still loved her, but she just walked away. It was really all she could do without tearing up. He really was charming, that Percy. Annabeth looked at Rachel, and said to herself, "you're better than that. You don't have to rely on some guy for your emotional health." Back in the present, she had decided that she could deal with being single for a while. "Annabeth Chase," she said aloud to herself, "this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship."
