This is an excerpt from a story I am writing. Enjoy!

"Would you just leave me alone?"

The voices of the two fifth years echoed through the empty corridor. The blonde-haired girl flounced in front of the shaggy haired boy trailing behind her. He seemed to be pleading with her, but she was clearly not listening to a word he was saying.

"Come on, Julianne, you know I didn't mean to permanently turn your cat into a fly, I was aiming for Kassie's bird-"

"I don't care that you're apologizing about that, Sirius," Julianne snarled rounding on him. Her blue eyes were hard and if looks could kill, the boy would be lying on the floor, dead. "It's the way you are so arrogant and you take advantage of everyone you meet! You think you're so amazing and that everyone you meet is so blessed to meet you!"

Sirius stared at her in shock. Sure, he knew Julianne had a nasty temper, but he had considered her, in a roundabout way, his friend. He started to say something, but Julianne continued her rant.

"You know what? Kassie and Ivory were right. I shouldn't even have given you and your little group of Marauders a chance," she snapped.

She went to walk forward, but seemed to be struggling against something. Sirius gave a short, humorless laugh. "What? Didn't give enough yelling in?" he quipped.

Julianne glared at him and then glanced upward. She groaned and slid down against the wall. "Well, we're going to be here for a while."

Sirius raised his eyebrow questioningly. In answer, she pointed upward. He glanced to the ceiling and was met with the sight of a sprig of green mistletoe. He looked back down at Julianne and saw her annoyed expression.

"No! I know what you're thinking and I'd rather sit here until somebody else comes along than kiss you!" she shouted. Her voice echoed throughout the empty hallway.

Sirius laughed. "Well, who exactly would you expect to be walking along here?" he asked sarcastically.

Julianne stood up and glared at him. "No!"

Sirius smiled gently at her. "Aw, come on. It'll be over after a few seconds," he prodded.

Julianne stared at him for what seemed like forever, before sighing.

"Fine!"

Sirius smiled and stepped closer to her. He put his head next to hers and slowly, gently, pressed his lips against hers.

Julianne resisted, just waiting until he was finished. Then, she started to relent. You know, this isn't that bad, she thought. She leaned into the kiss slowly, almost forgetting who it was she was kissing. Every bad thought she had ever had about Sirius dissolved in that moment.

She wrapped her arms around his neck, kissing him back. For a second, she felt him smile through the kiss, and then it was all over. Sirius pulled back, a smile in his dark eyes.

"See? Was that so bad?" he teased.

Julianne was speechless, her arms still around his neck. Sirius gently stepped back and her arms dropped to her sides. He grabbed her bag and handed it to her. "Go on. Ivory will be waiting for you," he murmured.

Julianne nodded and started to walk forward. She took one step before pausing and turning back around, taking a quick step forward and giving Sirius a quick peck on the lips. "No, it wasn't bad at all," she whispered before taking off back down the corridor and disappearing from sight.
