After I wrote my drabble today for the week, I wondered what would have happened next, and so it continues….

The two elderly widows sat in their wagon in the long column headed towards the east. It had been a quiet, almost boring day, and they took turns sneaking in a quick nape occasionally.

Suddenly the sound of horse's hooves pounding the ground hard could be heard coming closer. Both women turned and saw the one of the King's general's gallop by as if his life depended on it. He was followed closely by the King himself pulling closer to his General with every stride. All indications seemed to be that this was serious until they ladies noticed the big grin on the General's face.

The General made for a group of trees not far from the wagon the widows were riding in. The cagey General put a tree between his horse and Alexander's horse and tried to keep it there. He was now laughing openly and even the King had a grin on his face.

"What do you suppose that is all about?" asked one of the women.

"Looks like we aren't the only ones who are bored." Answered her friend.

About that time the King outmaneuvered the General and tackled him off his horse with both of them landing with a thud on the ground. By this time, the General was giggling loudly and the King, who had him pinned to the ground, was laughing just as hard. The women were to far away to hear what was being said between the two men but with each word the laughing increased.

Alexander started to tickle his general and continued while his helpless general shook his head from side-to-side. Finally after several minutes the king won yet another victory and leaned in claim his victory, claiming the other's lips as the prize.

"How come we never have any fun like that anymore?" one of the women said with a sigh.

"I don't know," the other answered, "I guess we are too old to do such things anymore. But if we were a few years younger it sure would have been fun to do 'strange things' with those two. My, they are pretty ones."

The wagon rolled on down the road leaving the two 'pretty ones' behind. No longer bored were they now with daydreams of lost youth and frolicking in the grasses of their past before they were mothers. Little did they know that a mother had started all of this fun.
