Echoes: little resounding sounds from the future
Chapter 1: 'Daddy's favorite'
Ten years to the day dad. It's been ten years to the day that everyone who knew you found out that you were right. Mom even admitted that some of what you said had to be right. Victoria Sage thought as she leaned against the wall of the small theater.
The daughter of Helena Bertinelli and Victor Sage wasn't so different from her parents. She had a keen mind, killer curves, and was pretty well able to kick anyone's ass if they pissed her off. Still she found herself at Mason's Theater again for the tenth year in a roll. Her father… Her father had come here so often because he knew what was under the theater. The year he died he exposed it. Well he exposed it to Helena, Batman, and Black Canary.
She moved into the theater being quieter than the preverbal grave. The inside looked normal. There was seats, a fading silver screen, a now sorely unkept concession stand, but it was nearing the employees' area that things changed. There was the door to behind the screen for the normal employees, but then there was a steel door hidden behind a fake wooden wall that was different. She pushed the false wall out of the way and looked at the door. Gently she pushed on it and watched as it opened.
There was no doubt in her mind that her father knew about the secret entrance long before he brought her mom down here, but it was what killed him… That was something he was only guessing at. She finished descending the stairs and looked at the unmarked drums. Each of them contained enough uranium artificially changed to have enough similarities with Kryptonite that it could easily kill Superman, but it could and would kill any human that got near it with radiation poisoning.
She looked at the drums and then at the place where those bastards had poisoned her father. The amount of radiation they had exposed him too meant that he wouldn't live over it. A tear escaped from her eyes and rolled down her cheek as she took in everything she saw.
"Alright daddy… I finally got them. I know that they weren't the top guys, and it's like you said… there's always someone higher, but the guys that did this… I got them last week. It was me, Rex… That's Lantern's son, and Athena… That's Diana's daughter. We found them, and I did what you would want me too. I let them live…" She said then a smile crossed her face, "Of course I did something for mom too… I made sure that each of them wanted to die after I busted their balls. Daddy… I wanted to tell you that I'm not going to keep coming here anymore. I know that you died in your old apartment… That mom held you as you passed on. I know because I was there. I saw it, and I swore that I would find the guys that did this to you, but… I'm going on now. Rex… he asked me to marry him daddy. I think that I'm going to. I just wanted to tell you that I love you, and I hope that you can rest now." Victoria Sage said as she turned and began to leave.
Although the room was air tight, and there was nothing open except for the door at the top of the stairs Victoria felt a small cool breeze touch her cheek. She smiled because she knew that she had made her father proud.
