Disclaimer: NCIS or any other bits you might recognise don't belong to me, although the line "is your forehead cold" belongs to my partner in crime and co-writer Bee Bee.
AN#1: this may seem a bit strange and fast but we did think of this whilst being freezing cold skiing down a mountain in Austria with Grinning Martin as our ski coach. Prepare for OOC-Ness and AU-Ness!
*ON WITH THE STORY*
It was midnight and dark at director shepherds house. Windows down stars let in shafts of moonlight illuminating everything spookily and mysteriously. Suddenly the front door opened and shut again admitting a figure into the shadows. Jenny awoke with a start at the sound. The bottom stair creaked as the person stepped on it. She sprung out of bed silently with her SIG in her hand. After throwing on a dressing gown she flew out of the door only to collide with special agent Gibbs.
It was so dark she didn't recognise him. She loaded her gun and opened her mouth to say something before the front door opened again. He put his hand over her mouth and led her back into her room forcing her down onto the floor so they weren't visible from the door. Jenny turned around and caught sight of agent Gibbs for the first time.
"Special Agent Gibbs! What are you doing in my house and what's going on?" she whispered quietly, but not quietly enough because the new men downstairs heard her and started to make their way upstairs.
"How the hell did they get past your security team!"
"You still haven't -"
But there was no time for her to finish her sentence before he grabbed her hand and pulled her towards the wardrobe.
There had been many life threatening incidents at director shepherds house before SecNav decided to do something about it. Running under the homes of most of the agents in NCIS was a network of tunnels allowing anyone who knew how to, to gain entrance to almost anywhere in DC. Only SecNav and a select few knew about these tunnels and only SecNav had access to them. So for use only in emergency situations director shepherd could use these tunnels to escape.
After they were through the entrance hidden at the back of jenny's wardrobe, Gibbs proceeded to find a map and torch hidden nearby and lead her towards NCIS HQ.
"Are you going to tell me where we are going and what's going on?"
"No."
"Do I have to make that an order?"
"Even if you did I still wouldn't tell you."
It had been several hours of climbing through tunnels and both Gibbs and jenny were shivering from the cold. Seconds later they were through a hatch in the men's shower room. Whilst jenny looked around in confusion, Gibbs grabbed a blanket from a nearby locker before leading her up to her office. When they were there they both collapsed onto the sofa with jenny landing on Gibbs' lap. She was too tired to move so he arranged the blanket around them both and they slept through the remainder of the night.
It was 7 o'clock when jenny finally woke up. She looked around her dimmed office for a bit remembering what happened last night. She looked up and saw Gibbs looking down at her with a worried look on his face.
"Are you alright?"
Before she could answer him the window behind her desk smashed and a knife embedded itself into the back of the sofa in between their heads. They looked at each other with panic etched on their faces before all but leaping off the sofa and legging it to the tunnel entrance in Evidence Lock up. But too late, only after the door had closed did Gibbs remember that he had left the keys on the desk in jenny's office and that they had no other way of getting out. They were trapped in the tunnel.
AN#2: you would have to read Kiki Strike and The Shadow City to understand this better although it is not the same set of tunnels the are set up differently for the purpose of the story but, they have the same backstory.
