Author's note: this is one shot that I have been mulling in my head, which may develop into a full story in far future. I have a story (called "Bound") that I still need to finish. Background info: mecha in Japanese sci-fi is a war machine/weapon, usually in form of giant robots, and often with a human pilot. Please read and review if you like.

Story Start

Kurt's mecha slammed onto the ground hard. And for a moment, he saw stars. His body throbbed and burned with pain. He knew now that the only way to beat the giant, rampaging, enemy mecha was to ram himself into its nuclear heart, to use himself as an ammunition to break the protective metal cover of the heart, to destroy it. However, in the process, he would destroy himself as well.

He thought he heard someone screamed his name. He closed his eyes. In his mind, he saw her, the girl he loved, and his heart shattered to pieces. So this is what it means to be human, he thought. To feel. Longing. Aching. Loving. No, he was not sorry. He would do it all over again, given the chance. He opened his eyes and piloted his mecha to stand. This is for you, he told her, as he lunged towards the monster's heart.
