A few days Later, Gwen dropped Luz off at the Owl House.
"Now, my daughter will be watching you while I go to hunt for Titan's Blood, if I find any, or something similar, we may be able to open a portal to get you home." Gwen said.
"Okay but does she know she's going to be watching me?" Luz asked. "Eda didn't seem like the most….responsible type."
"Don't worry, she does know and she will be a good caretaker. She's a self made expert of humans since she's visited the human world more than anyone else." Gwen said, having faith in her youngest daughter.
"Okay, I'll see you when you get back." Luz said.
Gwen nodded to Luz before giving he'd a small hug, getting the human girl to hug her back as she smiled.
"I'll be back soon." Gwen said, "Enjoy your first day at school tomorrow."
Luz nodded to Gwen as they broke apart, letting the older witch fly away on her staff and leaving Luz with at the owl house.
"Glad to have you here, Luz!" Hooty shouted from behind her.
"Okay." Luz said, ignoring Hooty, "Let's get this started."
Luz walked to the door and knocked, waiting for Eda or King to answer the door before King opened the door and saw her.
"Oh, it's you." King said, "Eda, the weird human your mom has is here!"
"Luz is here already? Let her in!" Eda said as she poked her head from the kitchen, "Hey there Kid. So, this is where you're going to be for a little while."
"Yeah, I guess." Luz said, feeling a bit nervous and awkward since she never really had a conversation with Eda before. "So…where do I sleep?"
"Upstairs, I'll show you." Eda said.
Eda showed her a closet, which was probably better than most places.
"It's probably smaller than your last room at my old house but it's better than nothing." Eda said as Luz walked in, looking around.
"It's more or less the same, just a bigger window." Luz said as she set her bags down, "And… a little cluttered."
"Yeah, it mostly used for storage but I'm sure you'll get used to it." Eda said with a shrug. "It's better here than my weapons room. Anyway, you better get some rest, you have school tomorrow."
"Yeah, I figured. I'm really excited to learn more about magic here." Luz said as she set up a sleeping bag she got from Gwen.
"Yeah but trust me kid, DO NOT trust this coven system." Eda said to her.
Luz looked confused, mostly because she doesn't actually know that much about the "Coven System".
"Why? What the big deal?" Luz asked.
"It's crooked, unfair, and ridiculous! Would you limit yourself to learning on one type of magic when you had the potential to learn all types?" Eda asked Luz.
"Uh… I don't have magic, so they can't really do anything to me." Luz said.
"It doesn't matter if you have magic or not, Belos will try and force you into whatever coven your taking at school." Eda said as she crossed her arms. "Speaking of witch, what track did you chose?"
"I'm going into the Beast Keeping Track." Luz said to Eda.
"Did my mom convince you to do that?" Eda asked.
"Nope." Luz said, "It's the one that's best suited for me, after all, I can speak to certain cats."
"….Ahahahahahahaha! That's a good joke!" Eda said to her.
"Yeah." Luz said, "Good joke."
'Guess I'll keep it to myself for now.' Luz thought.
Eda finished laughing as she turned to leave.
"Goodnight, Luz. and try not to stay up talking to any bed bugs!" Eda said before laughing again.
"Don't worry... I won't." Luz said.
When the door closed, she shifted and stretched a little before jumping to the rafters. She always felt more comfortable sleeping up high. The next day, Luz was getting flown to school. Luz was a bit nervous about going to school in a new world but she tried her best to hide it as Eda looked back to her.
"You okay? You look like you're going to puke up breakfast." Eda said to her.
"Yeah, just a little….nervous is all." Luz said.
"Just relax and keep the cowl on, you'll be good." Eda said.
"The one that King is sleeping in?" Luz asked, looking back to see King snuggled up in her uniform cowl.
"Yep." Eda said as she landed in front of Hexside. "And if you want to assert your dominance, just punch the toughest looking kid in class."
"Did that work for you?" Luz asked.
"Well... it got me detention... so yeah, it's pretty effective." Eda said.
"Okay, I won't be doing that then." Luz said as she got off the staff and took King out of her cloak. "Will you be here to pick me up after school?"
"I'll try but I can't make any promises." Eda said as she took King, putting him in her hair.
"I guess I'll take what I can get." Luz said, putting her cloak up, "See you after school."
"See you, kid. Try not to cause too much trouble!" Eda said as she flew away.
Luz turned to the school and headed to the office to get her uniform and schedule.
She remembered the way from the tour and reached the office with ease, knocking gently to her Bump's attention.
"Come in." He said as Luz opening the door.
"Ah, the newest Beast Keeper." Bump said, "I have your schedule ready and with just a little magic."
Bump made a spell circle and Luz's blank uniform became orange.
"Wow, cool." Luz said, looking over her clothes.
"That's what they all say." Bump said as he used magic to levitate Luz's schedule to her hand. "Your locker number is also on the paper. Just tickle it and it will open for you."
"Okay, thank you sir." Luz said with a nod before taking her leave.
"One more thing. Mrs. Clawthorne told me you will be staying with Edalyn for some time. I do hope she hasn't influenced you negatively yet. She has….a reputation here." Bump said with a frown.
"That doesn't surprise me." Luz said, "Don't worry, I will do my best to stay out of trouble... but, I have been hearing more about this Coven System. Could you give me a brief explanation of it?"
"I'd be happy to." Bump said with a smile. "It's a rather long history but I can give it to you in a shot explanation so you're not late for class."
"Decades ago, Belos came to power, showing us how to use magic... correctly." Bump said, "He claims to speak to the Titan and only he is allowed to decide who can use all forms of magic. They are split up into nine different Covens. Plants, Abominations, Bard, Beast Keeping, Potions, Illusions, Construction, and Oracle."
"You... you don't really believe that do you?" Luz asked, "The way you speak, you doubt that don't you?"
"Close the door." Bump said, which Luz did, "No. I used to, but recently, I've had some... associates tell me about some dark things happening. Things I can't speak of or else I may be killed."
"So, why only allow others to only use one type of magic?" Luz asked, "If you don't believe in this system, why follow it?"
"I'm sure they have things like this in the Human Realm." Bump said, "And I'm sure you can understand about why I am afraid of doing something like that."
Luz nodded. From history, she knew that standing up to a strict figure that randomly says to be able to speak to a god can cost someone their life.
"Now, get to class." Bump said, "I don't want you to be late on your first day."
Luz nodded to him as she left, following her schedule to the class while thinking about the coven system more and how…much she didn't like it already.
She entered her first class and sat next to a girl with brown hair, green eyes, and a fishhook earring.
"Oh, I like you're earring." Luz said.
"It's not actually an earring, it was a fishing trip gone wrong." She said, "Too difficult and dangerous to remove so I left it there. Anyway, I'm Viney, what's your name?"
"I'm Luz, it's nice to meet you." Luz said as she shook hands with Viney. "I'm sort of new here."
"I can tell." Viney said, "I know every Beast Keeper here. Don't worry hoodie, you'll get used to this place fast."
Luz put her hands on her cowl, she was hoping it would avoid attention, but it seems to be doing the opposite. Still, she can't take it off or else everyone will know she's human.
Luz and Viney sat together as the teacher came in, beginning class.
"Good morning class." The teacher said, "I understand we have a student that is new to Hexside."
The teacher gestured towards Luz as she nervously stood up, taking a deep breath.
"Hello, I'm Luz Noceda." Luz said with a small wave.
"There's no need to be nervous." The teacher said, "Everyone has been in this kind of situation. New faces, new places."
'New dimensions.' Luz added as she sat down.
"Now, since it's the first day of the new semester, we're going to start with something fun." The teacher said, "Who has heard of the mysterious creature that's been reported in the woods?"
Everyone in class raised their hand at this, except Luz before she tried to play it off.
"C-Creature in the words? What's that?" Luz asked, soundly like she just moved to town.
"I'm glad you asked, Ms. Noceda." The teacher said.
The teacher began to draw the reported creature on the board. Luz had to admit, it was almost accurate, except for the large fangs and wings coming from her back, but other than that, it seems to be her Panther.
"They say it can kill something by flying in from above, striking it with its massive teeth."
"How big are the teeth?" Viney asked as she was taking notes.
"Judging from the reports, I would say the largest fangs could be 14 inches long and 3 inches wide." The teacher said.
'Jesus Christ, my teeth aren't that big.' Luz thought.
"And the wings, sir?" Another student asked.
"Flight. And its dark colors aid in camouflaging itself in the night, the perfect cover for a predator." The teacher said.
'At least he got the color reason right.' Luz thought as she began to take notes as well, wrong or not.
Despite being completely wrong, Luz had a feeling she'll enjoy her first day.
