The next day, Amity, exhausted from staying up early in the morning trying to help her dad with something, headed to the library. It was one thing she appreciated, her dad trying to be better than he used to... sure it was sudden... and most likely because Odalia told him about Luz and he didn't want to be next, but it was a nice start... still she was exhausted.
'So tired. Almost want to just sleep all day.' Amity thought, rubbing her eyes a bit.
Still, she pressed on and continued towards the library. She has work to do, a lot of work to do, not just on a school project but on a more….personal project of her own.
"Hello, Amity." The front librarian said, greeting her.
"Hello, Gary." Amity greeted him tiredly.
She went passed him and began to get to work, first, she grabbed the books she needed for her school project, she wanted to get it done first, before working on her personal project, which she also found a book for.
'Now to my study room.' Amity thought.
Amity brought her books to her hidden room, getting started and even finishing it easily and quickly, expected for the top student.
'Now onto the more important project.' Amity thought, moving her school work aside for personal project.
She pulled out the one book she could find about Human Animals. Hopefully, it would have all Amity wanted to learn, not just about human animals but spirit animals as well. She quickly moved to the T section, seeing an orange cat with black stripes.
"So this is a tiger?" Amity said in awe, caressing her hand over the picture.
She flipped the page and saw a couple different variations of a tiger, including different sub species of the tiger and different types of fur color... including a white tiger.
"So... that's... what it... looks like." Amity said, slowly closing her eyes and laying her head down on the desk.
She began to dream of a snowy place, where a white tiger was crouching down while stalking prey, with a Black Panther hiding on a branch, waiting for the tiger to make her move so she could jump down and kill the prey. The tiger broke into a sprint, chasing the prey, some kind of buffalo creature. The tiger chased it all the way to the tree line, where the Black Panther jumped from her perch and sunk her teeth right into the back of the buffalo's head, taking it to the ground and killing it easily. The tiger flinched from hearing the sound of cracking bone and ripped flesh but she still couldn't look away as the panther and tiger began to share the hunted meal. The Panther and the Tiger affectionately nuzzled against each other's head.
Amity woke up and rubbed her eyes.
"Must've dosed off." Amity said, blinking her eyes a bit. "Still, that was a strangely sweet dream. Didn't know panthers and tigers could hunt together."
Though, thinking about it and remembering Luz saying her spirit animal could possibly be a tiger, it made Amity blush a bit before shaking her head.
"As nice as having a Spirit Animal would be, only humans can have them... right?" Amity said, "I mean, there aren't THAT many differences between humans and witches."
'Just pointed ears and bile sacks on the heart. Aside from those, we're nearly identical species.' Amity thought, going back to reading about Earth tigers.
The book didn't have anything about Spirit Animals, which was unfortunate.
But it was Still fascinating to learn more about Earth's animals…until she saw that giraffes were on Earth as well.
'Oh boy, I forgot that these were banished to Earth a long time ago.' Amity thought.
"Wait, do humans have giraffe spirit animals?" Amity asked, "Because that could confirm my theory."
If that was true, then their species truly are connected. Even if it's through a demon species that was banished, it would still prove that the human realm and the demon realm are connected. She would need to look into this, but unfortunately, she couldn't find a book anywhere in the library about Spirit Animals.
'I may need to speak with Luz more.' Amity thought before yawning, 'After an eight hour nap.'
Speaking of Luz, she was at the Owl House, tossing King in the air and catching him.
"Higher! Higher!" King shouted, finding this so much fun!
Luz did so and tossed him higher.
"Hey, King, I was kind of curious, what happened to your horn?"
"My horn?" King asked her.
"Yeah, your left horn. Why is that chipped off while the other is fine?" Luz asked, catching King.
"I…..don't know. It's just been this way for as long as I can remember." King said, rubbing his head near his broken horn.
"Well, that's our mission for today." Luz said, "We're going to find out what happened to your horn."
"Really? But even time I try to remember, it gets fuzzy." King said, rubbing his head again.
"Then maybe we could ask Eda. She's had you all your life, right? Maybe she knows." Luz said, walking to the house.
"Yeah, maybe…." King said, though he wondered why he never asked this question before.
Luz got off the couch and headed upstairs, where Eda was talking her third drunk nap of the day.
"Eda!" Luz said, pushing her door open.
"Ugh, no yelling." Eda said, groaning as she turned in her nest.
"Where did King come from?" Luz asked.
"I found him on some island." Eda drunkenly said, "Like... three miles off the coast of the Isles."
"Thank you!" Luz said, "I'm going to borrow your staff!"
Luz ran out of the room, grabbed Owlbert and King and headed out. Inside, Eda's eyes shot open.
"WHAT!?"
Her drunken stupor was gone and Eda rushed out of her nest, running downstairs right as Luz shut the door!
"Kid, no!" Eda shouted, rushing and kicking the door open! "STOP!"
They were gone.
"Damn it!" Eda said, "I need to call Lily to slow them down!"
Eda reached into her hair and pulled out her a scroll, calling her sister as she drew a spell circle to clean herself up.
"Hello?" Lilith answered.
"Lily, get over here! It's a Code Blue!" Eda said.
"Oh no, not again!" Lilith said.
"I know! I'm gonna try and catch up in the motor tub! You try and catch them from the sky!" Eda said, rushing to the shed attached to the owl house.
"Got it! I'm on the way!" Lilith said before ending the call.
With Luz and King, they could see the island.
"There it is!" King said in excitement.
"Oh, this is fun, just me and you on an adventure." Luz said.
"Wait!"
Luz turned around and her mood soured.
"Lilith." She glared.
"Luz, listen to me. I know you must hate me since the conformatorium." Lilith said to her, flying next to her and King.
"Hate is a very strong word and very accurate." Luz said with a glare.
"I know but you must trust me, you cannot go to that island." Lilith said.
"And why should I trust you?" Luz asked, glaring at her, "You tried to stop me from saving Eda, as far as I'm concerned, you are an enemy of mine."
Luz dipped the staff, flying fast away from Lilith to the island.
"Luz wait!" Lilith shouted as she flew after them!
'I may have to tell her the truth sooner than expected!' Lilith thought as she saw Eda's motor-tub about 2 miles from the island. 'And Edalyn is still a ways away, I'll have to stall!'
Luz landed and got off the staff.
'Good, we're in the woods, this is my domain.' Luz thought.
"King, Owlbert, hop on." Luz said, before shifting into her panther form.
The small demon and palisman got on her back, holding on as Luz rushed into the jungle. Lilith was too late as she landed and saw them vanish into the brush.
"Damn it, no!" Lilith said.
She summoned her scroll.
"Edalyn, they've gotten away."
"Damn it." Eda growled, "Lily, you know what will happen they find out."
"Yes... King will be the most wanted creature on the Boiling Isles." Lilith said, "Get here as soon as possible, I'll try and cut them off before they make it to the tower."
"Roger!" Eda said as Lilith hung up her scroll.
The coven witch rushed into the jungle as fast as she could, remembering the way as best as she could to reach the tower before them!
"Hopefully I'm not too late!" Lilith said.
Lilith knew Luz was faster than her, mostly thanks to her spirit animal, and she was also much more adapted to the thick forest than her. Again, Spirit Animal. If Lilith could get there before Luz, then it would be a true miracle. Speaking of the spirit animal girl, Luz was still running through the jungle as King and Owlbert held on for their lives!
"Luz! Did you even know where you're going?!" King asked, struggling to stay on.
'I imagine I'm looking for something that shouldn't be here.' Luz thought as she jumped over a fallen tree.
She even used her nose to try and sniff something out, something that wasn't leaves or bark or dirt. Something that stuck out from the rest of the jungle smells. She smelt something... old. Like the smell of a building that hasn't been touched in decades and has fallen to the weeds. That was where Luz needed to go and that was where she started running towards.
"Luz, did you find something?!" King asked.
"Roah!" Luz roared in reply.
The three made it to a large building and Luz turned back.
"Woah, what is this place?" Luz asked.
Luz didn't wait for a reply as she began to climb over the rocks and inside the building.
"Guys come on." Luz said.
In another part of the Island, Lilith leaned against a tree. She was still about a mile away from the tower and she was out of breath.
"Titans, this jungle is either more dense than I remember or I've let myself go a bit." Lilith said, holding her chest.
'I knew I shouldn't have had those extra fries!' Lilith thought.
"Okay, got to keep going." Lilith said.
She went back to running, eventually reaching the tower.
"I don't see them, maybe I bear them here?" Lilith said looking around.
She looked down and saw a paw print... Luz's paw print.
"Oh no." Lilith said, before hearing what sounded like a fight in the tower, "Luz!"
She climbed over the rocks and into the building. Squeezing through the gap to get inside, literally, Lilith saw that Luz as a panther was wrestling with a strange golem with a boomerang shaped head. It hissed like a snake as Luz roared in its face.
"Oh no." Lilith said, as Luz was thrown to the ground.
the golem walked up to Luz and formed an axe with its hand. Lilith rushed in and blocked the attack with her staff.
"Don't even think about hurting her!" Lilith said, "I would have two very angry mothers after me if you did!"
"Hissssss!" The golem hissed, turning its other arm into an axe and swinging!
Lilith spun her staff to deflect it back before blasting the golem back with lightning! She turned to Luz as she was getting up, changing back to normal.
"Why did you-" Luz was cut off as Lilith helps her up.
"I'll explain later but first, we need to leave this tower! Where are King and Owlbert?" Lilith asked.
"I... I told them to hide while I take care of that... thing."
"Then you must find them and get outside. I'll hold the golem back." Lilith said, turning her attention back forwards the golem. "Edalyn should be here soon, so you won't be alone for long. Now go!"
Luz didn't ask questions she just shifted and ran to find the demon and Palisman. Their scent was unique enough that Luz could easily pick it up, rushing to their location as she heard the sound of battle behind her.
'I still don't trust you….but you better not die, Lilith.' Luz thought.
Lilith smirked as she battled the golem.
"I doubt you remember me, so let me give you a reminder!" Lilith said, using her staff and making a spell circle beneath her.
She dashed in a blaze of speed as the golem charged at her, swinging and missing as Lilith moved too fast and began hitting it from all sides. Lilith used her staff and jabbed it into the back of the golem.
It hissed as it turned its head to Lilith, swinging at her but she jumped into the air and slammed it into the ground!
"Just as savage and predictable as before." Lilith said before jumping up and drawing a large spell circle and firing multiple ice spikes.
The golem was hit by them, but didn't seem to be too affected by it. Lilith made a spell circle and disappeared.
'Now it can't see me.' Lilith thought, continuing to hit the golem as it continued to fight back but didn't land any hits. 'Hopefully Luz has found King and Owlbert by now.'
The golem made a fast circle motion with its arm, hitting Lilith and knocking all the air out of her. Lilith rolled on the ground and dropped her staff. The Golem raised its hand and was about to hit Lilith, when it was stopped. Lilith looked up and saw Luz, holding both staffs and using them to block the golem.
"Lilith, take King and go!" Luz said, "I can handle this!"
"What? No! I-" Lilith shut up as Luz glared at her.
"Just do it before I change my mind!" Luz shouted, pushing the golem away!
Luz spun both Lilith and Eda's staffs in her hands before rushing at the Golem. Lilith was so in shock that she didn't notice King until he shook her arm.
"Come on!" King said to her.
Lilith ran with King while looking at Luz. Luz used Lilith's staff to block a strike before using Eda's staff to teleport behind it. All that magic practice Eda had her do with Owlbert were paying off, though using the magic of Lilith's staff felt a bit different for some reason but she ignored it. Luz spun the staffs and slammed them down, causing both of them to have glowing eyes. Luz charged with magic surrounding her, using the staffs to knock the Golem to the other side of the room. The impact actually made the tower shake as Luz stumbled to come to a stop, making her look a bit shocked that she of all people pulled that off.
"Damn, two staffs are serious business." Luz commented, actually seeing the staffs smoking from her attack.
It didn't look like the golem was going to get back up so she ran. She almost made it to the exit when she felt a sharp pain in her side. She looked dlwn and saw that the axe hand had hit her side, just above her hip. Not enough to kill her, but enough to make her worried about blood loss. She fell to the ground and dropped the staffs. The golem raised its hand, ready to put the final nail in her coffin.
"Really hoping that cats actually have nine lives!" Luz said.
"No!"
King rushed in, ignoring Lilith's protests. He put himself between Luz and the golem.
"King, no!" Luz said as the golem swung down.
"Stop!" King said in desperation.
To Luz and King's shock, it listened.
"W-what?" Luz asked, holding her side. "I don't think I've suffered enough blood lost to hallucinate."
"Yeah, what's going on?" King asked, a bit creeped out by the sudden change.
"It's because it was made to protect you." Eda said as her and Lilith entered, "King... this is where I found you... this is where you were born."
Lilith kneeled next to Luz and began to stop the bleeding, leaving behind a large scar, but still healing her.
"W-w-what are you talking about?" Luz asked.
"Luz... Edalyn and I came here years ago." Lilith said, "I was 'chasing' her, at least to the Coven's knowledge."
"What Lily was really doing was helping me escape from the Coven." Eda said, "Kid, we've been lying to you for a long time, same goes to for you King. Lilith and I are part of a rebellion to overthrow Belos. We came here after a boiling rainstorm started when Lilith was helping me escape. We found this... small creature, building these tiny little statues... that creature is you, King. We were suddenly attacked by that golem and decided to take King and run. His horn was broken after getting hit by the golem on accident."
"B-b-but why would you lie about this?" King asked, near tears.
"Because of what you are." Lilith said, "Belos would be after you if he learned what you are and how vulnerable you are at the moment."
"W-w-what is he?" Luz asked, getting off the floor.
"King... is the last Titan." Eda said.
Luz and King gasped at this, the former looking at the latter as he stumbled back a bit before falling on his butt.
"B-But….no. I can't-" King tried to say.
"Don't you find it strange that there are no other demons like you? Or ever noticed the skull of the Titan looks very similar to your own?" Lilith asked as she drew a spell circle, making a copy of the Titan skull and King's head side by side to compare.
"King." Eda said, pulling out his broken horn, "It's the truth, and if you don't believe it, we can take a look through the rest of the temple."
King looked in shock at his broken horn, shocked to see it after all of this years. He reached out for it, hesitating but took it into his hands as he gasped. Memories long forgotten had returned, making him remember his life inside of this tower! He saw... darkness, followed by a large roar.
"I was just a baby when I heard a roar. I didn't know where it came from or who said it but I think…they call me "son." A while after that, my egg hatched and I crawled to a door and I opened it." King said as he turned to the golem. "This was waiting for me and it carried me down here to this chamber, it's where I just built these little for years."
"We think your dad or mom, whatever gender the Titan was, used their magic to created the golem to look after you. And you, without knowing it, were trying to make more." Eda said, gesturing to the dozens of tiny statues that looked like the golem.
"There's also some kind of... symbol on the ceiling." Eda said, "We don't know what it's for, but we think it was for protection."
"Protection from what?" Luz asked.
"We think it was meant to protect him from Titan Trappers, but we don't know how it would work." Lilith said.
"I... I want to see it." King said.
Looking to each other for a moment, the Clawthorne sisters nodded to King's request before reclaiming their staffs and gesturing for the two to hop on.
"Let us clear the way first." Lilith said as King sat on her staff, pointing towards a hole in the roof near the back of the tower."
"That's where King came from?" Luz asked on Eda's staff.
"Yeah." Eda said.
The group flew up the hole with the golem following behind, arriving at a seemingly empty room with a large door before them.
"Is that the door, King?" Luz asked as the small Titan hopped off Lilith's staff.
"Yeah, it is." King said, walking to the door and putting a hand in it.
Ripples of magic washed over the door before it opened, allowing them all to enter. They saw a pedestal with broken egg shell around it, surrounded by plants. On the roof, was some kind of opening, in a specific shape. Luz and King approached it, gazing at the shell pieces and at the ceiling.
"This is it. This is the symbol King hatched on." Lilith said, walking next to them. "Again, we didn't know what it was for but maybe it was a symbol of protection to keep King from something or someone."
"Then maybe we should take a picture of it or something." Luz said, "We can replicate it when we get back home then, because if it's meant to hide him, then someone dangerous is after him and this could help him and maybe even us."
"Hmm, guess we didn't think of that. We didn't have enough time to think about it last time but maybe we should study this symbol." Eda said as she reached into her hair, pulling out an old human realm camera and took a photo.
Lilith did the same as she swept some egg shell pieces off the pedestal and took several pictures with her scroll.
"Come on, I think we've seen enough." Eda said, "Let's get home."
"Um, wait. Can I ask a question?" King asked them, still holding his horn.
"What is it? About the resistance?" Lilith asked her nephew.
"Can we….keep him?" King asked, pointing to the golem.
"What? Why? King, isn't he restricted to just the tower?" Luz asked him.
"I know but maybe I can make him move? Titan magic brought him to life and I am a Titan, maybe I can make him move and protect me whenever you guys aren't home?" King suggested.
"Worth a shot." Eda said.
Making their way out of the tower, the group watched as the golem stepped out of the field and crumbled to the ground in a pile of lifeless rocks.
"Well, guess this is it." Luz said, looking to King so he could work his "Titan magic."
"Um... rise?" King said.
The pile of rock does nothing of the sort, making King a bit upset as he glared at it.
"I said, rise." King said again, making him more upset as his anger was growing.
"It's okay, King. We can still bring it back." Eda said to him as King took a deep breath.
"I. Said. RISE!" King shouted as a shockwave of magic exploded from around him, spreading through the whole island!
Birds flew away and the hair stood up on all three of the witches/Human.
"Woah! How'd you do that!?" Luz asked.
"I…I don't know." King said, noticing his voice was a bit deeper now. "Maybe that was my magic?"
Right as he said that, King noticed the golem slowly glowing as it rose to its feet before all of them.
"It worked, he can move outside of the barrier now." Lilith said, shocked.
"Alright, little buddy, let's get home." Luz said, patting King's head.
"Yeah, let's." King said, smiling at his gole- his very first friend. "Come on, Jean-Luc. Let's go home."
'Jean-Luc? Is French somehow a language here?' Luz thought, surprised by the French name.
Honestly, with everything she's seen, that shouldn't be that weird.
'Whatever.'
After Eda was given her staff back, she got into her motor tub with King and Jean-Luc while Luz willingly rode back with Lilith in her own staff. They had quite a bit to talk about on the way home.
"So, everything at the conformitorium was-"
"A trick? Yes." Lilith said, "I knew you needed to get to Edalyn, but I couldn't risk blowing my cover by just helping you, I needed to make it look like you were on the attack, that just so happen, to lead to where they were keeping her."
"Well, you could've at least told me before then. Maybe I wouldn't feel so guilty about trying to kill you before." Luz said, looking away with some guilt.
"It's alright, I bare no ill-will to you. The mask I wore was a bit too cold but I need to wear it so I can keep getting information for the resistance." Lilith said, patting Luz on the shoulder.
"In fact, I'm very impressed with how far you'll go to help my sister." Lilith said, "You've proven that you are strong and care about others. In this family, that takes a lot of Courage."
"Or stupidity." Luz said.
"This family isn't short of that either." Lilith said.
Looking down, Lilith somewhat proved her point by seeing Eda do a small trick over a wave as King and Jean-Luc held on tightly!
"Eda! Watch the waves!" King shouted at her.
"Especially when it comes to her." Lilith said, "But, she's a good mother."
"Mother?" Luz asked.
"Please, we all know you and King are basically her children." Lilith said.
That felt nice yet it also felt bad, it felt like Luz had unofficially replaced her mother and assuming she…she…
"I…But I'm not…." Luz said before Lilith put a hand on her head.
"I know Edalyn could never replace your mother, nobody could. But for now, maybe you could accept her as a second mother that cares for you as much as your first. Don't lose faith, she is alive and you will see her again." Lilith said with a soft smile,
"Thank you." Luz said, looking up at her, "I guess having Eda as a mother means I get the coolest Aunt in the world."
Lilith smirked.
"Guess I'll have to remember that when I get you a Frost Day present." Lilith said, holding Luz like she saw giving her a hug.
Luz leaned into the hug, feeling a wave of relief wash away her guilt and replacing it with trust in her new aunt. In her new family, though Luz was still wondering what was becoming of her original family aka her mother, Camila.
'Please be okay, mom.'
Once the group had returned home, King showed his new friend/guardian around the owl house as Eda and Lilith put up the motor tub with Luz.
"Well, this has been a crazy day." Luz said.
"Yeah, even though you did something incredibly stupid and dangerous, it paid off." Eda said with a smile.
"Indeed. King has learned the truth of his origins and gained some magical abilities of his own." Lilith said with a nod.
"There were a lot of secrets today." Luz said.
"Indeed there were." Lilith said.
"Anything else I should know?" Luz asked.
"Unfortunately, there is, but even I don't know what is going on." Lilith said, "Something Belos calls, the 'Day of Unity'."
"Day of Unity?" Luz asked, confused by the strange name.
"It sounds like a good thing but trust me, if Belos is behind it, it's all doom and gloom." Eda said, crossing her arms.
"All I know, is that it involves all nine coven heads." Lilith said, "And there's a secret project he's working on for the day."
"Secret project? Any idea what it is?" Luz asked.
"Related to the Day of Unity, nothing good. Not even our latest recruit know anything and he's in a higher position than me." Lilith said, "Though he is working on it, so we'll have to wait and see."
"Hey, I haven't heard about a new recruit." Eda said.
"It was a recent development, picked by Raine themself." Lilith said.
"Then we'll wait." Luz said, "And we do whatever it takes to stop Belos."
