Next morning, they woke up in the same position and because Jack's cell was ringing nonstop.
"Bastard" Jack said trying to shut it down.
"You might as well pick it up" Sam said burying her head in the pillows.
Jack finally managed to grab the dam machine and saw that it was Paul Davis calling.
"It's Davis", he said getting up. "I'll take it downstairs. Sleep more" he said giving her a kiss in her bare back before covering.
"Hum.." Sam was asleep again.
"What is it, Davis?" Are we being invaded? Are ships in orbit? You know I'm on vacation!" he said furious.
"I'm very sorry to disturb you, General", Major Paul Davis started to say.
"What's the problem for crying out loud?!" Jack started making coffee.
"Are you alone, General?" he asked carefully.
"What kind of question is that, man?! Are you drunk, Davis?" Jack paused with a mug in his hand.
"No, Sir but the subject is sensitive" he explained.
"I'm alone, Davis. State your business because I'm leaving for the cabin with my wife early today" he said pouring the coffee.
"It's Ms. Kerry Johnson, Sir", Davis said almost in a whisper.
Jack almost dropped the mug.
"WHAT THE FUCK?!" he yelled but remembering that Sam was asleep upstairs lowered his voice.
"What do you mean? Aren't you dealing with her?" he asked slowly.
"Yes, Sir. As agreed I'm taking all her calls and messages and they've been plenty, Sir. But yesterday she come to my office and well, Sir she told me something…" Davis paused not sure how to continue.
"Well, what?" asked Jack.
"Sir, I'm sorry but I'm just going to say what she said. She said and I quote 'Tell the General that I'm pregnant and he either will meet me or I'll call his wife' end of quote, Sir" Paul Davis said as fast as he could.
Jack stood silent for several minutes and then to Paul Davis astonishment he started to laugh.
"Sir, General? Are you ok?" he asked concerned.
Jack put the mug down.
"Yeah, Davis I'm ok. She's just nuts. She won't quit, I see. I'll have to talk to her and end this once for all" he said passing his hand through his hair.
"Is there anything I can do, Sir?" asked Davis. He really liked the General.
"No, this is my problem, I'll solve it. Just don't tell Colonel Carter about these talk we had, ok?" he asked.
"Of course, Sir. You're called to an urgent meeting", he volunteered.
"No, just say you don't know where I am. I'll explain to her latter", he said. No more lies.
"As you wish, Sir. Sorry to bother you so soon, Sir" Davis apologized.
"Goodbye Davis", Jack hung up.
"Goodbye, Sir", he hung up to an already dead line.
Jack went back upstairs and got quickly dressed. His wife continued to sleep and he sat in her side of the bed, quietly stroking her hair.
"Sam, honey, I have to leave for a few minutes. I won't be long. Then we can go to the cabin, ok?" he asked with his mouth closed to her ear.
"Where are you going?" she asked bellow the pillows.
"Just taking care of something. I won't be long. Love you" he said kissing the top of her head.
"Ok" Sam said half asleep.
Jack grab his coat and left the bedroom.
His ride to Kerrey's apartment was fast because he didn't intent to lose time. She opened the door on the first ring. As expected she was just wearing a short transparent negligée and a kind of kimono.
"Hello my dear, I see you got my message" she said with a wide smile and tried to kiss him but Jack avoid her and just entered the apartment.
"What the hell do you want now, Kerry?" he asked taking off his sunglasses.
"Uhh bad mood. Should come have visit me before, I would have taken care of that in no time, my love" she said trying to pick his hand.
Jack took a step back, keeping his distance.
"Cut the crap. What is this story about you being pregnant?!" he asked as calmly as he could.
"We are having a baby, Jack" she said putting both hands in her belly.
"No we are not" Jack shook his head firmly.
"I'm pregnant Jack" she said as a matter of fact.
"Well that's your problem. I'm not the father" he said crossing his arms.
"Of course you are. I don't sleep around!" she exclaimed indignantly.
"I don't care. I'm not the father" he said again.
"How do you know? We have been sleeping for two straight weeks, very intensively I might add" she smiled again.
"I always used a double condom, and I always checked after. I'm not the father" he explained very clearly.
"Those things are not 100% effective. Accidents happen" she said lifting her left eyebrow.
"Not with me. That's why I used always two condoms. And I checked them after. So no baby for me" he said.
"Well we just have to wait for the end of the pregnancy and do a DNA test then" Kerry said with a broad smile.
Jack grabbed her arm tightly.
"That's what you really want, isn't it Kerry? To make Sam hurt with this supposed pregnancy?" he asked through his teeth.
"Well she'll have to deal with it…" she shrunk her shoulders.
Jack grabbed her harder.
"No, Kerry, she won't because I could almost swear there is no baby. It's just a lure. And just let me tell you how I deal with that kind of blackmails…" Jack dragged her to the couch and make her sit.
"Listen to me and listen Kerry because this will be the last time we are going to have a face to face conversation. There's no way I'm the father of that 'supposed' child of yours. NO WAY! And I'm not going back to you. It's over. It's was sex, just sex. I was stupid and made a mistake. I'm sorry if you thought it was more but I love my wife and my marriage is the most important thing to me so whatever delusions you had of us, forget it" he explained in a strained voice.
"Things are not that black and white, General. What would your bosses say if I would appear in the Pentagon claiming that I was pregnant with your child? Do you think they would be happy with your conduct as a married man, General?" Kerry asked with innocent eyes.
Jack was already expecting this card and was quite ready.
"My dear, let me tell you that if you choose that path your career and your life will go down the drain pretty fast. President Hayes himself knows about everything regarding this situation. I've informed him myself. Let me ask you one question, Kerry. Why weren't you at the White Office gala? You are always invited…" Jack smiled.
Kerry face started to get redder by the second.
"I wasn't feeling well because of the baby" she said.
"Show me your invitation" he demanded.
"I don't know where I've put it. It's in my office probably" she lied.
"You didn't receive an invitation because I asked the President not to invite you and he agreed, Kerry. He agreed. So don't blackmail the White House. You'll lose" he warned.
Kerry Johnson suddenly looked very paled. Apparently things were at a level she hadn't anticipated.
"The White House?" she asked.
"Yes, 'my dear'" he used the term with disgust. "President Hayes and his wife are quite fond of Samantha and were very appalled by the situation. I have already done my penitence but if I have to go there again to put you out of our life's for good to spare any more grief to my wife, I have no problem whatsoever to do it" he simply said.
Kerry fidget with her hands, not so sure of herself anymore.
"You wouldn't put yourself in that situation, Jack" she tried to call his bluff.
"For Sam I'll do anything on this Earth or planet. I've done it before; I'll do it until the day I die" he said his eyes almost black with conviction.
Kerry knew he wasn't lying. The same certainty she had lost him when they were having a barbecue in his house and Samantha Carter had showed unannounced shortly before her father had passed away and Jack had gone after her the minute she left. Yes, Jack just took off.
"Ok Jack, I understand. Things end here" she said.
"I'm glad we understand each other" he said putting his sunglasses back on.
"She's very lucky to have you" she said when he was almost at her door.
Jack paused and look back to her.
"No, Kerry, you're wrong. I'm very lucky she'll have me" he said before leaving for good.
