I've wondered why Shane and Becky, self-professed best friends in DC, didn't stay in touch after Shane's move to Denver. Becky's question about Shane being in the Dead Letter Office instead of Direct Line Operations had me thinking they'd not spoken in the several months since Shane's move. The gut-wrenching look and tone made me seriously wonder, "Who hurt you, Shane?" And this fic came to being. Part of the Between the Altars series and follows Family Ties.
