(3rd person POV)

Now is about as good a time to explain what Esmeralda and her father had in the way of a relationship. Daniel was a broad shouldered man with salt and pepper hair. The tips changed colour depending on his emotions, and it is safe to say that he was better at controlling his emotions than his daughter, and had an logical approach on most matters. Esmeralda shared his desire to learn new things and was a quick learner. She, however, could not sit through a math lesson to save her life.

When fae are five years old, they gain wings. With the wings, they also get their talent. A talent is a specialty that only one fairy has in their generation. Daniel had gotten the talent of music, therefore Esmeralda inherited the musical talent. Talents are passed down for centuries, and are extremely cherished among fae. Each fairy would teach their children to bear that gift, to use it for the good of the world.

Daniel could use any instrument to convey a message and to bend people's will if he so wished, using his talent. He could make things appear out of thin air, but that used a lot of energy. Esmeralda could do almost the same thing. By singing, she manipulated the mist to do her bidding, as well as bending wills and making objects appear out of thin air. But Esmeralda had tons of magic. Whenever she sang, the atmosphere filled with an intense electric feeling. She was powerful, and Daniel knew she would use it for the good of the world. She was smarter than anyone gave her credit for, due to her ability to pick up details. There would be many hardships for her. He was just glad she could stand up for himself. She would just need to get stronger, in order to avoid the migraines.

He chuckled at what the world would come to if she met the gods of Olympus at Empire State building. Even if she was currently six years old, he knew she has potential, but if no one could handle it, there would be a six year old running all over, conjuring unicorns. Zeus would go absolutely crazy, that much was for sure. Esmeralda was a force to be reckoned with.

"Esme, once we get inside, go up to your room and start packing your things. It is crucial you get all the things you need as fast as possible. We need to get going."

"Can I take my hoop?" Esmeralda had gotten an aerial hoop for Christmas just a few months prior to this, after lessons at a local gymnastics class for kids. Fae were very flexible and strong, so it was a win-win for both Esmeralda and Daniel. Esmeralda got stronger, and this able to defend herself more easily, so Daniel was happy, and Esmeralda enjoyed the freedom of using aerial hoops and silks. With a bit of practice, she was becoming a fairly good contortionist, and as a demigod (or rather demi-primordial) that was a helpful skill.

They went into the house, failing all attempts to stay dry, as the pouring rain fell around them relentlessly. Esme's hair stuck slightly to the sides of her face, and she pushed it behind her ear. Daniel dumped her backpack unceremoniously onto the kitchen table and removed its contents. Taking the now empty backpack to Esme's room, he put a change of clothes, a bag of some gold discs that looked like some form of foreign currency, toothbrush, a shrunken aerial hoop and her silks. Five of her stuffed animals went in as well.

Esmeralda's room was -unsurprisingly- a light lavender with a blue rug. She had approximately a million stuffed animals perched on her bed, but no surprise there. She grabbed a battery operated microphone off her dresser and put it in the bag.

They went into the kitchen to grab snacks. Pretzels, jellybeans, twizzlers, chips, the works... Glancing out the kitchen window, Daniel took a step back in alarm. A big, hulking figure in a sombrero and trench coat was lurking outside their steps. Daniel threw Esmeralda's coat onto her shoulders and stepped into his boots. Esmeralda did the same.

Opening the front door, Daniel took a Sharpie out of his pocket and uncapped it. The tip elongated and transformed into a bronze sword, taking the thing by surprise. He charged at the monster who whipped out a scythe.

"Esme! Get away!" Daniel shouted. He swung at the monster and made a gash that seemed to bleed with golden dust. The monster straightened and lunged towards Daniel. The latter parried it to the best of his abilities, but slipped on the muddy lawn. With a sickening thud, the monster stepped on Daniel's ribcage. A scream reverberated and Daniel got up enough to swing the sword into the monster's heart. The monster exploded into dust, leaving a golden residue of monster guts on the lawn. Daniel was lying on the lawn bleeding. Splintered bone fragments and blood and dirt were in this mess of what used to be a chest. It was a miracle he was still breathing at all.

Esmeralda hurried over, the rain making it impossible to distinguish her tears from the water pouring her face. At that moment, three teens came from down the street, accompanied by a six or seven year old.

A sandy haired boy who was about twelve crouched over Daniel's body and said, "Monster attack."

A punk teen voiced her opinions as well, "No shit, Sherlock. Can we save him?"

The scrawny boy with a limp replied to Punk girl. "I don't think so. I think the girl is a demigod."

In between shuddering breaths, Daniel said something nearly unintelligible, but it was still clear enough what he meant.

"Esme, I love you. Get to camp. Go with-" he coughed up blood "them. Book in glove compartment . Say hi to your mum for me." A small smile graced Daniel's lips despite the pain. He stopped breathing moments after.

"He's dead. I'm sorry, um... Esme... Would you like to come to Camp with us?"

"Great going Luke. She looks to be about six years old, and you just asked her to basically get over her dad dying and come to camp. Could you be more insensitive?" Punk girl snapped. She bent down and have Esmeralda a hug. Esme clung onto her neck, sobbing. Her hair was a deep blue colour.

Scrawny boy walked over to the car. He had found the car keys, but Esmeralda wasn't quite sure where exactly. Everybody piled into the car. Esmeralda sat in her booster in the backseat with Blondie and Punk girl.

The sandy haired boy -Luke- was going through the trunk. He emerged with the spare booster, probably for the blonde six year old. He tossed Punk girl a blanket for Esmeralda.

"Best get going. I got her things in the trunk, as well as ours.

It seemed like the crying had worn Esmeralda out, because she fell asleep curled up under her blanket, still hugging Punk girl. The car started up, and they were off to camp.
