After successfully defeating Gaea, mother of the earth, Percy and Annabeth, victors, got very well alongside each other. Both went together in whatever trip they take. They go on quests designated by higher-ups or for those who needs rescue. They would do anything together.
But however, this quest would decide Percy's future and role into the world of gods.
Backstory: An unnamed man commissioned a quest for Camp Half-Blood's bulletin news board, in which Percy and Annabeth gladly accepts. The quest was to find a powerful weapon that the unnamed man had lost during his said journey to the West Coast. The unnamed man gave clues to the last time he saw it which was near Aunty Em's Gnome Emporium. They quick pack up their stuff, said goodbye to everyone at camp, and heads out to the location.
Present time,
9:00 PM
Location: Leeds Point, New Jersey
"Ah! We've made it!" Percy proudly looks at "Welcome to Leeds Point!" board on the highway.
"Yep, that was a long trek; how'd you feeling right now?" Annabeth looked at Percy.
"Better than ever that is! I'm ready to find this weapon."
"Me too, hope nothing doesn't really go wrong this time," Annabeth threw her hat on, making her invisible.
Percy and Annabeth then trekked near the boundaries of Aunty Em's Gnome Emporium as they are their hotdogs by the tree.
"Great day for a picnic eh?" Annabeth munched on her hotdog. "It's a shame we didn't bring picnic materials here today."
"Ye, too bad we only brought weapons and rations," Percy shook his head, now digging into his backpack.
"Well, we should be heading off now, the sun's about to dip," Annabeth said while looking at the sunset.
After a short rest and some munches, both heads off towards the location; however, they didn't expect something when comes to mind.
Passing the gate of Aunty Em's Gnome Emporium, a huge wind gusts blew both of them inwards of the garden.
Percy, the first one to stand back up, hurried to Annabeth, "You ok? You got swung hard!"
"I'm fine... Percy, someone's behind you!" Annabeth, panting , then screamed.
Percy, surprised, swung Riptide against this figure of threat, but nobody was slain.
"Whose this someone?" Percy looked back and asked.
"I swear I saw somebody! Ugh... only if you looked back," Annabeth stood back on her feet.
"Whatever," Percy eye-rolled at Annabeth.
After dusting off the collision, the compass, which Percy got gifted for his birthday, led them both deeper into the garden.
"Beware of your surroundings, and that creature too," Annabeth warned Percy.
With his Riptide sword in front, and invisible Annabeth behind his trail, it was surely gonna be fine, until...
"Percy, watch out!" Annabeth screamed.
It was too late, Percy then got pushed hard straight to the ground by a massive force, then, he heard a hissing voice.
"Well, well, what do we have here? Percy Jackson? Son of Poseidon eh? I've heard news that you're the one causing the ruckus lately, even after Gaea's death you were praised as a hero," a hiss of words came full-round his ears.
"Come on now, look at me, just once! It'll be no harm, no harm at all!" It continued.
"Who are you?" Percy grunted.
"Don't remember me? I'm Medusa's stronger form! You've defeated the original Medusa, now, prepare for an even stronger one!" It hissed loudly at Percy.
"Stop it Medusa! You're hurting him!" Annabeth yelled off the distance.
"Well, well, Daughter of Athena? What a pleasure from two heroic figures, hmm, I wonder what is your business here, hmm?" It turned and looked towards at Annabeth, in response she closes her eye.
Percy then tried to get up to kill the figure, but he then realize that a force of straining was upon him. He looked worryingly and frantically at the figure's encounter with Annabeth.
"Come on now, open your eyes! It won't hurt, I'll promise you; you would look perfect in your statue form. Your mother's eye is all that I need," It tries to use manipulative powers.
"Annabeth! Don't do it! Please! Keep yourself within your mind! Don't let her get into yours!" Percy yelled to Annabeth.
Annabeth, now surrounded and backed into a corner, replied, "Percy, I can't! She's too strong! I... *pants* can't... *pants* hold... *pants* on!"
"Please Annabeth! Try to keep your strength within you! Please! Just do it for your own sake!" Percy, still strangled under chains, pleaded to Annabeth.
"Aww, cute couple eh? Come on, any time now, you'll be just perfect as my subjects, no harm in the fee after all!"
"Please... Annabeth, don't..."
"I'm sorry Percy, I have to!" Annabeth then slowly opened her eyes, and then a bright green glow fired upon her.
"Nooooooooo..." Percy's chains were broken as he jumped free with Riptide in his hands.
It was too late for Annabeth as a dark gray color took place in her Nike shoes as it spreads upwards across Annabeth's body. She was turning into the many victims of Medusa, a statue. The statue effect quickly finished her off, sealing her fate as a statue, as Medusa's more powerful figure laughed. Percy then struck his sword with all his might right in half of the figure.
The figure then disappeared by his slash, but Percy didn't feel victorious. Panting for awhile, Percy rushed to the Annabeth statue and saw her look of despair as she was in her final moments. Percy, now felt loss in his heart, sighed and walked away from the statue, and went on to the mission he was designated with Annabeth. There was no Annabeth now, he thought, it's just gonna get worse isn't it? Percy eventually successfully found the weapon the unnamed man had needed and brought it back to camp, retuning it to the unnamed man.
Chiron came out of the office and cheered for Percy's return, but he then saw Percy's despair as Percy slowly walks back to his cabin. Chiron reached out his hand to call Percy, but Clarisse stopped him.
The next day, Percy came to the usual meal as he lonely eats his daily meal. Chiron came to ask him what happened, but he stayed silent or he usually says, "Oh, it's nothing."
News of Annabeth's death confirmed by an explorer named "Paul" spread throughout the camp and the high ranks of the gods in Olympus.
A meeting in Olympus takes place:
Hera: "How could this be?"
Zeus: "It's Poseidon's fault ain't it? He used his son to kill my daughter's daughter!"
Poseidon: "Hey now! I'm not the one who caused his! And plus, Percy was trying to help and support Annabeth every way he can!"
Zeus: "Pfft, if he actually does that."
Aphrodite: Calm down now gentleman, don't be too harsh about this subject. This is not like the last time ok? No bolt's stolen this time, Zeus!
Zeus: Hey, I blamed it on Poseidon for a good reason! *turns to Athena* Athena, how do you feel about this?
Athena: I'm fine, it's really nothing and out of reach of my business.
Ares: He would have deserved his lover's fate.
Athena: Lover? Who said they were in love?
Ares: I did.
Athena: Ares, do you think the son of Poseidon and myself can be in love? Look back at our past! Too many conflicts and many bickering against one another!
Ares: They're not in any of the god's businesses, I mean like, they can be in love whenever they want.
Athena: Come on now, stop denying against that they're not in love.
Ares: I'm just stating the truth.
A long argument between Athena and Ares starts as the gods watch how it plays out.
Zeus: Well, I guess meeting's concluded, hmm?
Aphrodite: Guess so.
Hera: We should end this now, or things would start to spice up.
Meanwhile...
Athena: I'm not hindering such words of yours, Ares, God of War. As you may have heard, I'm famous for my deeds for that Im their beloved god of high, and what about you? You're just a reckless god whose job is to war with people.
Ares: It's my choice I'm this way, I chose this form because I had wanted it.
Athena: Ugh. You're so annoying, just... leave me now.
Ares: Hehe, now who's bickering now?
Athena: I said leave me.
Ares: Fine, next time, I'll strike harder.
Athena: I bet you would.
As the bickering stops, one by one, the gods departures their ways as the thrones of Olympus falls silent. A gleam of sunlight shines through the silent thrones as the halls of white is decorated with wreaths upon wreaths.
