Hello, this is my first story on this website. I want to make one thing very clear right out the gate, this is not 100% my original work. This is a fan made continuation of someone else's work. I am a fan of their story, but very disappointed with how they left their story unfinished and discontinued. So, I decided to continue on where they left off. If the original writer of Dragon of the South is reading this and wishes for me to delete this, I will be sad, but will respect their wishes. I love your story, but I just wanted more and was sad you didn't continue the story yourself. I will try my best to do your story the justice it deserves. With that out of the way, let's begin.
It's been a week since the incident at Zhao's fortress. Azula didn't share with her siblings what had happened. Aang accidentally did that for her when he explained the frozen frogs to everyone. Apparently, the herbalist told him they acted as medicine as long as they were frozen. Azula made a mental note to herself that if she ever gets sick to not let Aang go and get her medicine. The four of them have been lying low for the meantime.
Azula was meditating in front of the lake they were camped in front of when a big fish had jumped out of the water catching everyone's attention. "Look!" said Katara as she stood up and pointed at the fish. Sokka shot up immediately and the look on his face was one Azula had learned over the years meant he was about to do something impulsive over his ego. For a brief moment, Azula amusingly thought to herself how Sokka and Zuzu had one thing in common, they were both hotheaded idiots.
The fish jumped out of the water again and Azula could swear it made a kissy face at them. "He is TAUNTING us!" Sokka said annoyed. "You are SO gonna be dinner!" Sokka yelled as he ran for their fishing pole. In all honesty, Azula was actually thinking the same thing her brother was as the fish continued jumping out of the water and making faces at them. Sokka grabbed the fishing pole and tried to cast the line but realized that said line was missing. "H-hey, where's the fishing line?"
"Oh, I didn't think you would need it Sokka." said Aang, as he held up whatever it was he was fiddling around with since this morning. "Ah it's all tangled!" Sokka yelled in frustration after he took a close look at what Aang was holding. "Not tangled, woven." He then turned to look at Katara. "I made you a necklace Katara. I thought since you lost your other one…" Aang held up the woven necklace for Katara with a big smile on his face.
"So let me get this straight, you made a necklace out of our fishing pole line? The line we need to catch fish with so we can eat? You didn't think to get some string from a market in the next town we visit?" A look of realization hit Aang who then visibly cringed. "Oh stop it Azula, I think it's nice." Katara said as she took the necklace from Aang and put it on. "I love it."
"Great Aang. Instead of saving the world, maybe you can go into the jewelry making business." Sokka said annoyed. "Well, I don't see why I can't do both." Aang replied.
"Well, technically speaking. He's not wrong." Azula added in, earning her an annoyed glare from her brother. Before he could say anything the fish jumped out again and made another face at Sokka. "STOP TAUNGHTING ME!" Sokka yelled as he threw the fishing pole like it was a spear at the fish. He of course missed and pulled out his knife and went into the water to try to stab the fish. Azula just watched and face palmed at her brothers hotheadedness.
"So, how do I look?" Asked Katara. Aang and Azula looked at Katara who was now wearing the makeshift necklace Aang had make. It honestly looked pretty good. Azula had to admit that Aang did a good job. Speaking of Aang, although she couldn't see his face from where she was sitting, she could still read his body language. Azula had to suppress the urge to chuckle at how flustered Aang was seeing Katara wearing the necklace.
"You mean all of you or just your neck? I mean, both look great." Aang said. Sokka emerged from the water holding the fish in his arms. "Smoochy smoochy! Someone's in loooovvvee!" Sokka said, teasing Aang. Azula couldn't help but laugh since Sokka said EXACTLY what he was thinking. Azula was also glad Sokka caught the fish since it managed to slip out of his grip and slap him silly with its tail before retreating downstream so the others thought she was laughing at him and not his comment. Otherwise she'd get an earful from Katara about it later.
"Stop teasing him Sokka, Aang's just a good friend. A sweet little guy. Just like Momo." Katara started petting Momo who was sitting on Aang's shoulder. It took all of Azula's will power to hold herself back from hysterically laughing. As Sokka emerged from the lake with no fish to eat, Azula stood up and everyone heard a noise in the distance. It sounded like a platypus bear, and it sounded mad. Aang used his air bending to quickly go to the source of the noise to see what the commotion was about.
"Someone's being attacked by a platypus bear!" The group rushed over to the scene as quick as they could. A platypus bear was trying to attack an elderly old man, however the strange thing Azula noticed that the others did not, was how abnormally calm the man looked. The bear, standing on its hind legs, took swings at the man. The man simply stepped back a bit and dogged both swings from the bear with ease. Azula noticed he was even smiling as if this were amusing him. The man then noticed the group standing on the other side of the river. "Oh hello there. Nice day, isn't it?" he asked as he dodged another attack from the bear. "MAKE NOISE AND RUN OFF!" Aang yelled to the man. "NO, play dead! He'll lose interest!" Sokka yelled.
"Whoa, close one!" the man said as he ducked from another swing. "Run downhill, then climb a tree!" Katara yelled. "No, punch him in the blubber!" Sokka yelled. "Then run around in zigzags" Aang finished.
"Uh guys, I think he's fine." Azula commented, immediately getting 'ARE YOU CRAZY?!' looks from everyone. "What, I'm just saying it looks like to me he's done this before. I mean look at how he dodges." Before anyone could say anything, Appa had come behind the bear and let out a loud roar. The roar scared the bear, who quickly laid an egg before retreating into the lake and swimming away.
The group ran up to the man to check on him while Sokka ran up and scooped up the big bear egg. "MMM! LUNCH!" Sokka yelled as he picked up the egg causing Azula to roll her eyes. "Luckily for you we came along." Sokka told the old man. "Thanks, but everything was already under control. Not to worry." The old man said nonchalantly. "Aunt Wu predicted I'd have a safe journey." "Aunt who?" Aang asked. "No, Aunt WU." The man corrected. "She's the fortune teller from my village. Awful nice knowing your future." "Wow, it must be. That explains why you were so calm." Katara said. Azula let out a chuckle. "And here I thought you encountered platypus bear's on the regular." Azula commented. "Well actually, it was my first time encountering one. But I remembered stories from my father when he had a few run-ins with those bears and what he did to avoid being hurt."
"But the fortune teller was wrong! You didn't have a safe journey, you were almost killed!" Sokka pointed out of concern and frustration. "But I wasn't." The old man countered. "Alright have a good one." He said with a bow as he walked away. "Oh, and Aunt Wu said if I met any travelers to give them this." He said as he gave them something wrapped in fabric and then turned around and left.
"Maybe we should go see Aunt Wu and learn our fortunes. It could be fun." Katara suggested. "Oh come on, fortune telling is nonsense." Sokka retorted as Aang unwrapped the fabric to reveal an umbrella.
"We have encountered spirits from the spirit world and YOU have literally been forcibly taken INTO the spirit world for THREE DAYS and your saying FORTUNE TELLING is nonsense?!" Azula asked Sokka. "She's got you Sokka." Katara told her brother. "Those are completely different things!" Sokka said back earning an unamused look from both his sisters. "Yeah, sure they are." Azula said sarcastically.
"What do you know, an umbrella." Aang said as he opened the umbrella mere moments before it had started to rain. Azula and Katara went under the umbrella with Aang while Sokka stood out in the rain bitter and mad. "That proves it." Katara said. "No it doesn't! You can't really tell the future!" Sokka said stubbornly. "I guess you're not REALLY getting wet then." Katara jokingly said before the bear egg Sokka was holding suddenly floated up in the air and then fell back down on top of Sokka's head breaking on him. "How….even…." Azula decided to not question what just happened in front of her, instead just laugh at her brother's misfortune.
"Of course she predicted it was gonna rain, the sky's been gray all day!" Sokka complained. "Just admit you might be wrong and you can come under the umbrella." Katara offered. "Look, I'M going to predict the future now! It's going to keep drizzling!" Sokka crossed his arms as everyone else looked up at the sky. "See?" Sokka said as it seemed to keep raining. However, the universe liked proving Sokka wrong it seemed, as the rain very quickly came to an end.
"Not everyone has the gift Sokka." Aang commented as he closed the umbrella and the group kept walking. After a few minutes of walking, they reached the village the old man was from. It didn't take long for them to find the building this Aunt Wu was living in, as a man spoke to them, getting their attention. "Aunt Wu, is expecting you." "Really?" Katara said excitedly and the four of them went inside.
Once inside, they were approached by a girl who looked younger then Aang by one or two years. "Greetings, I'm Meng and I'm Aunt Wu's assistant." Azula noticed how she looked at Aang. "Well hello there." Meng then said to Aang with a smug face and tone of voice. Azula smirked as she thought to herself how Katara might have competition. Meng gestured to some cushions on the floor. "May I get you some tea, or some of Aunt Wu's special bean curd puffs?" She asked as Azula and her friends sat down. "I'll try a curd puff." Sokka said only to be shot down by Meng. "Just a second." Meng said without taking her eyes off Aang.
"So, what's your name?" She asked. "Aang." The girl took a sharp inhale before excitedly responding. "That rhymes with Meng! And you got some pretty big ears, don't you?" Aang stared at her in surprised confusion. "I…guess?"
"Oh don't be modest, there're huge!" Sokka said to tease Aang. Azula couldn't contain her laughter as Aang looked at both of them while covering his ears. "Yeah, there're even bigger then Momo's!" Azula joked, earning a laugh from Sokka.
"Leave him alone you two." Katara told her two siblings. The two stopped laughing and Meng spoke up again. "Well Aang, it's very nice to meet you." She said while taking a few steps back. "Very nice." She added. "Likewise." Aang said as Meng walked away. Azula didn't miss that glance she gave Aang as she walked away when he said that.
"I can't believe we're here in the house of nonsense." Sokka complained. "Again, we have faced actual spirits from the spirit world on multiple occasions and you're drawing the line at something as measly as fortune telling?"
"Exactly, thank you Azula. Could you at least TRY to keep an open mind Sokka? There are just things in this world that can't be explained by science."
"Yes, like being abducted into the spirit world for three days." Azula added. "Will you two quit teaming up on me?!" Sokka asked annoyed. "Look all I'm saying, is wouldn't it be nice to have some insight on your future?" Katara asked. "It be NICE to have some bean curd puffs." Sokka replied. "Sokka I swear, talking to you is like talking to a brick wall." Azula mumbled as Katara and Azula looked at their brother in annoyance.
A women then came out into the room as Meng was coming back in. "Oh Meng, Aunt Wu says I'm going to meet my true love! She said he's going to give me a rare Panda Lily!" "Wow, that's SOOOO romantic. I hope MY true love give's ME a rare Panda Lily." The women Meng was talking to looked behind her and noticed Aang. "Hey, isn't that the big eared guy that Aunt Wu predicted you'd marry?" Meng became very visibly embarrassed and pushed the girl out the door as quickly as she could without making a scene. Azula smirked as she shooed the other women away. 'So that's what her thing with Aang is about.' thought Azula.
Meng then brought the four of them their food and tea, but as she approached, she tripped and almost spilled everything on the floor. Aang reached up just in time to catch it. The two slowly looked up at each other and Meng blushed before quickly telling everyone to enjoy the snacks and left. 'Maybe I should tell her' thought Azula as Sokka snatched the whole bowl of curd puffs and began stuffing his face. Azula took one of the tea cups from the tray and took a sip. It wasn't as good as how she remembered her uncle's tea, but it wasn't horrible either.
An elderly old women then approached them and Azula presumed this to be Aunt Wu. "Welcome young travelers. Now who's next? Don't be shy." The four were silent at first and glanced at each other to see who would speck first. "I'm taking it, you're Aunt Wu?" Azula asked as she took another sip of the tea. "Indeed I am child. Would you like to go first?" Azula looked at her friends and then shrugged. "Sure, why not." Azula decided as she put her cup of tea back on the tray and stood up to follow Aunt Wu into the next room. She took Azula into a big room with a small fire burning in the center of the room. "Take a seat, and we can get started."
Azula sat down next to her in front of the fire. "Would you kindly give me your hand?" Aunt Wu asked. Azula gave her her hand and Aunt Wu traced the lines on her hand. "Hmmmm….yes child I can see very interesting things in your future." Aunt Wu told her. Azula waited to see if she would say more before speaking herself. "What do you see?" "So far, I see you having a few pleasant reunions. With some people you haven't seen in a very long time. Two in fact. Two people from childhood it looks like." Azula's face turned to surprise as she looked at Aunt Wu. "I take it you already know who these people are by that look on your face." Azula let out a chuckle.
"Yes, actually. There's two people from my childhood who I haven't seen in a very long time….I think about them now and again." Azula confessed. "I see, child. Let's continue." Aunt Wu traced more lines on Azula's palm. "Hmmm." Aunt Wu smiled before continuing. "I see quite a few reunions in your future child. Reunions between friends and even family, both blood and non-blood." Once again Azula looked at the woman with surprise. She knew of course she would see Zuko again sometime in the near future and wherever he was, her uncle Iroh wasn't far behind. What she was saying would also mean she would get to see… "Hakoda….." Azula mumbled to herself.
"Hmm? What was that?" Aunt Wu asked. Azula let out a chuckle before talking. "He's my stepfather." Azula told her. "He's…the only one who's ever been a real father to me my whole life." Azula continued. Azula in that moment thought back to her time in the south growing up. She thought about the man who helped take care of her during those times. The man who was the first one to vote yes to her being brought to the south. He would come home and tell stories about his hunting trips. The man who would watch her practice her fire bending and would praise her even when she made mistakes, something Ozai never did.
"Well I see a very strong reunion with him in your future." Aunt Wu said as she traced more lines on Azula's hand. "I also see some love in your future." Azula was never a romantic so hearing this didn't get her attention all that much. "Oh really."
"Yes, between you a certain woman." THAT got Azula's attention as her face turned to the biggest look of surprise yet and Azula immediately went bright red. In the Fire Nation, same sex relations were outlawed since the time of her great grandfather. During her time in the Fire Nation, Azula thought nothing of it until she came to the south. There she learned that such things were not only allowed but greatly accepted. Again, Azula never put too much thought or acknowledgement on the matter as it wasn't her business, until she got older and realized things about herself….that she herself was a lesbian. It took a long time for her to accept this part of herself and had it not been for the support of Katara and the rest of her step family, she probably never would have either. Azula looked away from Aunt Wu in embarrassment.
Aunt Wu let out a laugh before speaking. "No need to be shy child. Now let's read a little further." Aunt Wu paused for a moment to retrace the lines on Azula's hand. "Hmmmmm…that's unfortunate." Azula forced herself to look at Aunt Wu. "What do you mean?" Azula asked nervously. "It seems there's not much for me to read about her but I DO see a small child. A son that you will raise with her." Azula blushed again, this was the most flustered she had EVER been in her life. Her….a mother….? "It seems this was a bit much for you. I apologize if I've upset you." Aunt Wu told her, snapping her out of her thoughts. "No no, its fine I'm alright. Is that everything?" Azula asked.
"Well…..actually….there IS one more thing." Azula wanted to punch herself. 'I just HAD to ask' Azula thought to herself. "And what would that be?" Azula asked nervously. "It would seem to be another reunion between you and family. Someone you haven't seen in a long time. Even longer than your friends from childhood. A women who holds a great deal of importance in your heart." Azula's whole demeanor changed and her entire body went cold. Time itself seemed to stop for her. There's only ONE person who that could be….. "Are you alright dear?" Aunt Wu asked. Azula realized she had clenched her other hand into a fist and was beginning to cry. Azula said nothing as she stood up and stormed out of the room.
Azula came back to the room where the others were and walked straight past them as they seen how upset she was. "Azula? What's wrong?" Katara asked her sister. Azula ignored her as she stormed out of the building. The four of them looked at each other as Aunt Wu entered the room. "What happened?" Katara asked. "I'm not sure. I finished her reading and she suddenly became so upset." Katara was about to get up to go find her sister when Sokka suddenly stood up. "I'll go talk to her." Sokka quickly left the building to look for his stepsister. Sokka didn't have to look far apparently, as Azula was right outside leaning against the wall with her arms crossed. Tears were falling from her eyes.
"Hey, you alright?" Sokka asked as he walked up to Azula. Azula turned her head away from him. "Hey, hey look at me. Azula…." Sokka put both hands on her shoulders but Azula looked away from him. "Azula, what happened? Talk to me, please." Azula could hear the genuine concern in his voice. It made a slight smile appear on her face. "I'm…..I'm fine, it's just….It's just what she said is all." Sokka's face hardened. "What she say?" Azula let out a deep sigh. "She said I would reunite with my mother." There was a long pause between the two of them before Sokka let out his own sigh. "Look, don't let her words get to you, it's all just a bunch of nonsense."
"Sokka, that's not the point!" Azula shouted drawing a few eye's in their direction. "I…..I don't know if I'll EVER….be ready to see that women again…I want to….but I don't know if I can….." Sokka pulled Azula in for a hug and squeezed her tight as Azula hugged back. "I know the idea of seeing her again might be scary but, you won't have to do it alone….we're here for you." Sokka rubbed circles on her back until Azula calmed down and pulled herself together. "Thanks Sokka….I needed that."
"Hey, what are older brothers for?" Azula let out a chuckle as she and Sokka went back inside. Apparently Katara had just gotten done with her own reading. "Azula! Your back." Katara went up and hugged her sister. "I'm fine Katara, I just got a little upset." Azula saw Aunt Wu behind her and broke the hug to apologize. "I'm sorry for just storming out like that. That was immature of me."
"No need to apologize, child. I wasn't aware that your mother was a sensitive matter to you." Azula looked at the floor and Katara put a hand on Azula's shoulder. "Now…..who would like to go next?" Aunt Wu asked to bring the mood in a different direction. "All right, let's get this over with." Sokka said as he stepped forward. "Your future is full of struggle and anguish. Most of it, self-inflicted."
"But, you didn't even read my palms or anything!" Sokka stated. "I don't need to…it's written all over your face." Sokka looked at her annoyed and unamused. That DEFINITLY cheered Azula up and she let out a chuckle. Aunt Wu then pointed at Aang. "You there. Come with me." Azula sat back down on the cushion as Aang and Aunt Wu left to do a reading. Katara sat back down on her cushion as they began waiting for Aang.
"Do you wanna talk about it?" Katara asked Azula. Azula looked at Katara and could see the concern in her eyes. "Katara, I'm fine, really I am." Katara wasn't buying it. "Azula. You're my sister. You know you can always trust me." Azula looked at her sister. "I want to see her….I really do…But I just don't think I can….I mean….what am I even going to say?" Azula clenched her fists in her lap. Katara got up and went to her sister and hugged her. "You say to her what's in your heart." Azula hugged her back and Sokka smiled as he watched. "Aww". His two sisters then turned to look at him. "I ruined the moment." Katara and Azula gave their brother an annoyed glare. A moment later Aang returned and the four of them left.
"Well, now you all got to see for yourselves that fortune telling is just a big stupid hoax." Sokka complained. "Disagree." Azula said giving him a glare. "Your just saying that because your gonna make yourself unhappy your entire life." Katara jokingly pointed out. "That woman is crazy! My life will be CALM! AND HAPPY! AND JOYFUL!" Sokka shouted as he kicked a rock that then ricocheted off several objects and came back to smack Sokka on the side of his head. "That DOESN'T, prove anything!" Sokka groaned.
"Well I liked my predictions. Certain things are gonna turnout VERY well." Katara said happily. "They sure are." Aang said crossing his arm, not taking his eyes off Katara. "Why? What'd she tell you?" Katara asked curiously. "Some stuff you'll find out." Aang told her with a grin on his face. Azula looked away and blushed slightly as she thought about the other things Aunt Wu told her.
As the group walked to the rest of the town they noticed that everyone had gathered up in the center of town as if they were waiting for something. "What's up with that sky?" Katara asked. Azula looked up at the clouds and noticed how some of them were shaped funny. "We're waiting for Aunt Wu to come and read the clouds, to predict the fate of the whole village." said the old man from way earlier in the day. "Hey that cloud looks like a fluffy bunny." Aang said, pointing at one of the clouds. "You better HOPE that's not a bunny! The fluffy bunny forecasts doom and destruction." Sokka looked at the old man as if he asked why the sky was blue. "Do you even hear yourself?"
"The cloud reading will tell us if Mount Macapo will remain dormant for another year, or if it will erupt." A women told them. "We used to have a tradition of going up the mountain to check the volcano ourselves, but ever since Aunt Wu moved to our village 20 years ago, we've had a tradition of, NOT doing that." That old man explained.
"I can't believe you would trust your lives to that crazy old lady's superstition!" Sokka angrily told the old man. Azula just rolled her eyes. If there was ANY part of her that would've sided with her brother, it died mere minutes into her reading with Aunt Wu. "Shhhh, here she comes." Katara shushed her brother as Aunt Wu approached to do the cloud reading.
Azula watched as she looked up at the clouds from the alter she was standing in and went through a book she was holding. "Bendy arrow shape cloud….good crops this year, nice big harvest." Azula heard some farmers in the crowd celebrate but paid them no mind. Azula figured out quite fast WHY exactly these people put so much faith in this women.
"Wavy moon shaped cloud….let's see…..gonna be a good year for twins." She said with a smile, eyeing a pair of twin boys. "A cumuli's cloud, with a twisted knob coming off of it…THE VILLAGE WILL NOT BE DESTROYED BY THE VOLCANO, THIS YEAR!" Aunt Wu announced and the whole village cheered. After the cheers died down everyone returned to their normal routine. Azula wondered the market a while looking for food to buy for the road, her own reading still fresh in her mind. Her mother, her friends…..her raising a son. Azula couldn't get a moment of clear thoughts.
Soon enough, it was too much. After not ending up purchasing anything from the market, Azula went back to Aunt Wu to talk about her reading. There were some questions about it she wanted answered if she was going to ever have some peace of mind anytime soon. Apparently, Katara thought the same thing as she was finishing up a second reading with Aunt Wu when she walked in. "And you will have your third grandchild before quietly passing away in your sleep." Azula noticed that she sounded annoyed. 'Oh boy.' Azula thought to herself. Azula opened the sliding doors and made her presence known.
"Oh, hey Azula." Katara said excitedly. "I just got another reading!" "I can see that." Katara's tone changed upon hearing her say that. She could tell something serious was on her mind. "Hey, are you okay?" Katara asked. "Yeah, I'm fine, uhhh can I talk to Aunt Wu?" Azula asked "Oh, sure." Katara still sat where she was and an awkward silence filled the room. "Alone." "But I was gonna have another rea-" "NOW!" Azula raised her voice to show she was serious. Katara's eyes widened and she quickly excused herself out. "I apologize for my outburst and my sister. She can get quite excitable sometimes and what I want to talk about is too important and personal for anyone else's ears." Azula explained when Katara left them alone.
"It's alright. So, I presume you have questions about your reading?" Aunt Wu asked. "Yes, actually. I want to know about the details of my reading. I don't want another one but….are you sure about what you saw? Will I really meet my mother in the near future?" Aunt Wu could hear the fear and sadness in the young girl's voice. It was clear that her reading had upset her. "Look child. I can't say for sure whether or not ALL of my readings will come to pass. When it comes to predicting the future, certain things are set in stone while others are not. Much like how water will always flow downstream, the wind won't always blow to the east. I have the power to predict the future, but YOU have the power to shape it. It may come to pass, it may not. We can't run away from what our future has in store for us. But we CAN have the strength and courage to face it and see it through." Azula sat in silence as she listened to Aunt Wu's words. "Thank you, Aunt Wu." Azula said, standing up and giving a bow as she left.
Katara was outside waiting for her. "What was that all about?" Azula looked at her sister and felt bad about raising her voice. "Look Katara, it was just private, private and personal. I just wanted to talk to her alone, I'm sorry I raised my voice back there." Katara put a hand on Azula's shoulder and smiled. Katara was about to speak when Aang and Sokka came running up to them. "Oh, hey guys." Katara said as the two turned to them. "Hey guys, what's going on?" Aang asked. "Oh, Azula wanted to ask Aunt Wu some questions about her fortune." "Katara, Aunt Wu was wrong! The volcano's gonna blow!" Their brother told them.
'Oh, for the love of Agni' Azula thought to herself. "Sokka, how about trying this new thing called letting people enjoy things!" Azula said, having enough of Sokka's skepticism. "Yeah, you've already tried to convince us she was wrong before, it's gonna take an awful lot to change our mi-" Katara was cut off by a loud sound coming from the mountain followed by a sharp rumble in the ground. The trio looked up at the volcano and the look of realization came to the girls faces.
"Oh no." Katara said. "We've got to warn the town!" Azula shouted. The four of them rushed to the center of town where the majority of the town was gathered to see what the fuss was about. "Everyone! The volcano's gonna blow! Aunt Wu was wrong!" Sokka shouted. "Yeah yeah, we all know you don't believe in Aunt Wu Mr. science and reason lover." A women from the crowd shouted back sarcastically. "Maybe you won't listen to him, but maybe you'll listen to me. I want to believe Aunt Wu's predictions as much as you do but my brother saw the lava with his own eyes." Katara told the crowd.
"Well, I heard Aunt Wu's prediction with my own ears." Said the old man from earlier. 'That old geyser is REALLY getting on my nerves' Azula thought to herself. "Everyone listen. I'm a strong believer in Aunt Wu just like all of you, but Aunt Wu herself confessed to me that she can't always guarantee her predictions could come to pass. She admitted to me that her predictions could become wrong, and now she IS wrong! The volcano is going to erupt!" Azula shouted. At that moment another loud rumble was heard and the ground shook again and thick smoke could be seen from the volcano.
"LOOK! Can your fortune telling explain THAT?!" Sokka shouted. The crowed looked at the volcano in silence. "Can your science explain why it rains?" Another man sarcastically asked. "YES! YES IT CAN!" The crowd dispersed having heard enough. "They just won't listen to us." Azula said. "But they WILL listen to Aunt Wu." Aang pointed out. "Yeah I know that's the problem!" Sokka said in frustration. "Well, it's about to become the solution. First I'll need to borrow Aunt Wu's cloud reading book." Azula suddenly realized what Aang was planning. "Wait Aang, are you planning what I think you are?" Azula asked. "Planning to mess with the clouds? Yes. But I'll need you guys to make sure no one comes in to spot me." The three siblings looked at each other and gave a smirk and a nod.
The plan was simple. Aang was going to steal the cloud reading book so they could change the clouds to reflect volcanic doom. After they did that, she and Sokka would get Aunt Wu to see the cloud and then the rest would happen naturally. "Look, their doing it! Go get Aunt Wu!" Azula told Sokka. A minute later Sokka returned with Aunt Wu. "Aunt Wu! Look! Something's happening with the clouds!" "That's strange, it shouldn't-*GASP*OH MY!" Aunt Wu and the whole town looked up to see the clouds form a human skull in the sky. 'Wow, they did a REALLY good job' Azula thought to herself.
After the others returned, the whole town had gathered in the center to hear what they should do. "We can still save the village if we act fast! Sokka has a plan!" Aang shouted. "Lava is going to flow downhill to this spot. If we can dig a deep enough trench, we can channel all of the lava away from the village and to the river."
"If any of you are earth benders, come with me!" Aang shouted. "I'm an earth bender!" "I'm not" The twin boys from earlier in the day shouted. "The rest of you grab a shovel! Come on, we gotta hurry!" Sokka shouted.
Everyone got to work. Azula, Sokka and everyone who wasn't an earth bender or too old to help was digging as fast as they could while the earth benders were bending as quickly as they could to form a trench that reached the river. Just as they finished, the volcano erupted. "Everyone needs to evacuate! We'll come back for you when it's safe!" Aang shouted. After the villagers were safe, Azula stood in-between her siblings as Aang stood next to Katara as the lava started coming down. They watched as the lava poured into the trench and into the river. "There's too much! It's gonna overflow!" Katara shouted. "Can't you do something?!" Sokka asked Azula. "What do you want ME to do?!" "I don't know, YOU'RE the fire bender!" "I'm a fire bender, not a lava bender!" "Guy's we need to get back!" Katara shouted interrupting her siblings bickering.
The three ran from the trench but Aang stayed put as the lava began to overflow. Aang then jumped up and created a giant vortex of air that sucked out the hot vapors from the lava. Upon landing he took a deep breath and blew with all his might a powerful gust of wind that hardened the lava and turned it into obsidian. It was over. "Man, sometimes I forget how much of a powerful bender that kid is." Sokka mumbled out loud. "You said it Sokka." Azula said. "Wait, what did you just say Sokka?" Katara asked. "Nothing, just that Aang is a powerful bender." Katara was silent for a moment. "I suppose he is."
After everything was over and the town's people we're brought back safely, Aang returned the cloud book to Aunt Wu. "No offense, but I hope this has taught everyone a lesson on relying too much on fortune telling" Sokka told everyone. "But Aunt Wu predicted that the village WOULDN'T be destroyed, and it wasn't. She was right after all." Azula had to resist the urge to launch a fire ball at that old man's face.
"I hate you!" Sokka said to the old man through gritted teeth. Katara led him away back to Appa before the two of them started a fight. Everyone got on Appa after goodbyes were said and the gang was back in the air again.
