For a lot of couples, it is very difficult to navigate through a long-distance relationship. However, Peyton Sommers and Beth Washington prove that point wrong. Before Peyton even got together with Beth, they had been best friends since before they hit the double digits.

It has been months after Peyton and her friends graduated from high school and since then, Peyton is attending university in New York to pursue her artistic dreams. This is the first time since graduating that she gets the chance to reunite with them.

The only people who know about Peyton and Beth's relationship are Beth's siblings, Hannah and Josh, as well as Hannah's best friend, Sam Giddings.

"Hey, did you see that? Dad said it'd just be us this weekend." Beth calls out to Josh, who is currently passed out drunk with his best friend, Chris Hartley. Peyton was also joining Chris and Josh in their little drinking game, but she opted out early to light up a joint.

Peyton takes a drag out of that joint as she joins her girlfriend near the window. "Let me take a look."

While looking out the window, Peyton was trying to see the figure that was lurking outside of the Washington lodge, but she couldn't really see anything due to how dark it was outside and how badly the snow was falling.

"I can't really get a good look at it, babe. It's too dark outside." Peyton informs Beth. Beth walks up behind Peyton, putting her arms around her.

"Can I get a hit on that?" Beth asks, and Peyton brings up the joint and Beth takes a hit of it and blows out the smoke. After she did that, she kissed Peyton on the side of her head.

She walked on the other side of the island to lift up a bottle of Jeremiah Cragg whiskey. "Geez, Josh. Once again, brother, you've outdone us all." Beth comments, causing Josh to groan in his sleep.

"These two are lucky that I opted out early." Peyton comments. Beth smirks. "Right, I forgot that the city girl can be real competitive." she says before they connect their lips together.

Normally, Peyton and Beth are very private when it comes to affection, however they took advantage of it since all of their friends are not here in the kitchen and also because of the two boys, who are currently passed out drunk on the kitchen counter.

However, all of their friends (with the exception of Sam, Hannah, and Josh) all assume that Peyton and Beth being closer than ever is because of the fact of how long they have been friends.

Beth then spots a piece of paper among all of the bottles and red plastic cups. She picks up the note and reads it. "Oh, my God. What'd our naive sister get herself into now?"

"Let me see." Peyton inquires as she joins her girlfriend. Beth hands her the note, which reads:

Hannah,

You look so damn hot in that shirt…
but I bet you're even hotter out of it.

Come to the guest room at 2:00 a.m. ;-)

Mike

Peyton begins to be suspicious. For one, that is not Mike's handwriting. And two, Hannah has an obvious crush on their mutual friend, Mike Munroe, who is a notorious player and is also dating someone in their friend group, Emily Davis, who can be quite a bitch.

From all of her years of knowing how to forge her dad's signature, she is very observant when it comes to handwriting. With that, along with the fact that she was in a lab group with Mike, Emily, and Emily's best friend, Jess Riley, in AP Chemistry, Peyton comes to know Mike's handwriting very well.

"That's not Mike's handwriting." Peyton voices out, causing Beth to be confused. "What are you talking about?"

"Babe, I sat next to him in AP Chem last year. And I know how to perfectly forge my dad's signature. Believe me, that is not Mike's handwriting." Peyton insists.

She should've known that Hannah's crush, scratch that obsession, on Mike is what's going to hurt her.

The two girls spot Hannah running out into the snowstorm, causing the couple to get worried, along with the fact that Beth spotted someone lurking around the cabin.

"Go get the others. I'll try to get these two to wake up." Peyton instructs Beth as she finds the nearest ashtray and disposes the joint.

"Hey, doofuses, wake up!" Peyton hisses out to Chris and Josh. She tries to nudge them, but both of them are heavy sleepers and are unresponsive.

"It was just a prank, Han!" she hears Emily call out.

Peyton wasn't at all surprised. She knows how catty Emily can get and how low she can stoop.

Peyton goes through the double doors to see Beth disappear into the winter hellscape.

Meanwhile, the rest of Peyton's friends are all outside when trying to go after Hannah. "So…should we go after her?" Mike asks an unamused Sam. "Y'know, I kinda think you're the LAST person she wants to see right now, Mike." Sam snaps at him.

Peyton grabs her leather jacket and begins to run after Beth. "Peyton, don't!" Matt Taylor, another one of their friends, tries to stop Peyton, but Peyton simply ducks under his arms.

Peyton was momentarily stopped by Mike.

Fight Back or Capitulate

Peyton elbows Mike in the ribs and shoves him off of her. "Get the fuck off of me!" she snarls as she continues to run into the storm.

While Peyton was running, she was easily losing her breath because of how violently strong the cold wind was. "Hannah?! Beth?!" she calls out for them.

Her vision is also getting impacted because of the flurry of snow. She uses her phone as a flashlight to make her way through the forest that is engulfed in darkness.

Because of the expanse of the forest, Peyton is not going to deny that she is lost. She felt like she spent hours trying to find any signs of either Washington twin. She can feel her limbs getting numb from the bitingly cold winds and the snow that she guarantees is seeping through her .

From the distance she can spot fire and the sound of screeching. Scared, she turns the other way. She stops to catch her breath and looks up to see the lodge. All that is on her mind is run towards the sanctum that is the lodge. She scrambles up the stairs and knocks frantically at the door, begging whoever is inside to let her in.

The door opens to reveal that it was Mike that opened the door. "Close the door! Close the fucking door!" Peyton hysterically orders as Sam and Ashley were guiding her towards the couch.

"Geez, you look like shit." Jessica comments, earning her a glare from the girl in leather. "Don't fucking test me, bitch!" Peyton challenges.

"Peyton? What the hell happened? Where are my sisters?" Josh asks as he and Chris join the rest of the group.

Tears well up in Peyton's eyes. "I tried to find them. I tried." she cries out. "From what I can remember, all I could see was fire and all I could hear was the sound of screeching. I'm so sorry."

On that fateful night, around 2:00 a.m. on February 2, 2014, that is the last time that anyone has heard from Hannah and Beth Washington.
