A/N: This is probably the messiest chapter in the fic. I'm not good at making friends hence I am just as bad at writing developing friendships. I'm working on it though - both the writing and actual social interaction. If you have any suggestions for how this chapter could be improved please leave a comment.

When he went back to school two specks of bright red stood out from behind his ears. He had picked the colour himself. If he was going to do this he wasn't going to be a coward about it. If people wanted to stare it wasn't his problem.

People did stare. And despite his claims he found himself hunching his shoulders, hands shoved deep into his pockets. Then he reminded himself that he didn't care what they thought. He stuck out his chin.

"What are you looking at, extras?" he yelled.

Everyone quickly remembered that they had other places they needed to be.

Except one.

"Deku," he snarled.

"H-hey, Kacchan," he shuffled from foot to foot. "my mom told me - or well, your mom told her and she told me - "

"What do you want ?"

"It's just - well, if you ever need help."

"You should be happy," he snarled, close to tears and hating it, "I'm just like you now. Quirkless, helpless - useless."

"You're not. You - "

"Stop that! " he screamed, "stop feeling sorry for me! Stop trying to help me! Like I need help from someone like you! Why do you even bother?"

"Because you're my friend." Deku's head hung like a wilted flower.

"We're not friends!" Katsuki shoved him hard enough to make him fall over. To his annoyance the idiot just stood up. He resisted the urge to shove him again, knowing that it would yield the same result. That was the way things were. No matter how hard he pushed him, no matter what he said or did, Deku was always there. Always trying to help.

Katsuki stormed past him to class.

It carried on like that for months. Accepting help would be admitting that he had failed, that he couldn't do this on his own. He wouldn't give in; he was too stubborn to. Unfortunately, Deku was every bit as stubborn. He was like a second shadow. Every time Katsuki turned around, he was there.

Eventually Katsuki got sick of it.

"Stop following me around like some lost dog, Deku! If you're going to insist on helping me at least walk next to me where I can actually see you."

A/N: And they were friends!

Yeah, I wish it were that easy. I didn't have the skill or energy for a proper development. Sorry for the *gestures at the previous chapter in embarrassment*
