After an extremely long walk back home no thank's to y/n slowing us down to train every two hour's or so. She had kept me plenty occupied with her question's the whole way not stopping until they slept and restarting again the next morning. Some were about the Anbu which he found hard to explain not wanting her to look at him like he was some kind of monster. Some were a bit personal like when she asked why he wore a mask and didn't have a girlfriend that last question was the hardest to answer and when he told her it was because he was too preoccupied with his mission's she only looked at him harder trying to read his face and told him he was to handsome to stay single forever, which got him to blush madder than hell thank god she hadn't noticed... the rest were easy compared to that one. He enjoyed how curious she was though, even if it exhausted him. And as exhausting as it was talking the whole way there he wished he would of had her come to the Hokages office with him he missed her idle chatter and her now surfacing bubbly personality that accompanied him for the last month , but with her not around all the time now everything was just too damn quite. But he knew that bringing her was a bad idea. He told her to go home and rest as soon as they entered the village. She pouted wanting to talk to the Hokage herself but he insisted and promised he would return with the new's the Hokage sent back. She wanted to argue he could tell. But she bit her lip and walked home not saying anything else other than he better keep his word. He figured if he brought her the Hokage would want her to put her new skills to the test right away and than judge her for everything she still lacked which in her case he seemed to do a lot... it was really too much pressure on her. Not to mention that he was nervous about the Third wanting her to join the Anbu... he promised himself he wouldn't let y/n get sucked into that world. She already had enough shit to deal with. Kakashi knew more than anyone how hard she had worked for a month not stopping until she had exhausted almost all of her chakra and no matter what he said to her she would never listen to him on that subject and she did it almost every day so she really needed the rest. Plus he didn't want the Third Hokage sinking his teeth into her yet until he knew she could handle it on her own with out being completely manipulated. When I was finally called into the office the Third had his back to me pipe in mouth staring at some documents in his hands while facing the window.
"Ahhh Kakashi so nice to see your finally back." He said turning around gesturing to me but he looked around confused. I knew what he was looking for... it was her. He raised an eyebrow at me and I knew he was asking where she was. I looked back at him in defiance. She won't be your puppet anymore I challenged his gaze. He sat back and sighed. But smiled at me none the less.
"Sooo. How'd it go?" "Very good sir she has improved quite quickly and I think the longer she spends under my firm hand she'll be a top notch Shinobi in no time." I wasn't lying although I knew that it was going to take patience and time with her.. which made him wonder how long the Hokage was going to keep her under his tutelage.
He cracked a smile and nodded. "Gooood..gooood.. nice to hear it. And is she ready to start working with you in the black ops? To be honest with you I was thinking of putting her in a less important group...you know dip her toe's into the water, after all don't want her dragging your team down."
His word's stung me. Sooooo he wanted me to crack her open like a nut than fix the now broken fucked up nut which was what I was trying to do now and I was succeeding so far and than all the sudden he wanted to instantly take her away from him. She would completely stop progressing if that happened Kakashi knew it. She only felt comfortable with him...even than it is was still shaky with her at times, she was just beginning to trust again. And again as mentioned before she was only trusting him right now and if some stranger came in and took over she would go back to that lifeless robot like before. What was the fucking point of him doing all this if the Hokage didn't even give a fuck about her anyways... was that what he wanted...her continually running to do what anyone asked of her I wanted to tell him that... but I knew that my pleading would fall on deaf ears as he had always done just what he wanted regardless of others. Because that was what he wanted. Even if it meant twisting her up and leaving her for hollow so she would alway's obey orders. My hand's were starting to ball into fists. Than something dawned on him while he continued to wait for the Hokage to say more. If the Third took her away.. would he see her again? It actually pained him not knowing if this last month that he had immensely enjoyed by her side, might be all he would get with her. As much as he didn't want her in the Anbu he definitely didn't want her to completely disappear... He couldn't help but wonder would this morning be the last time he would ever see her again...she had apparently been raised in the village since she was a young kid just like him but unlike him she never went to regular academy training having to go through her own special training that kept her locked up and twisted. He had asked her once what it was and y/n tensed like she always did when I asked about something dark in her past... all she said was he didn't want to know...which still sent shiver's up Kakashi's spine. He had never seen her before last month because she was forced to go on deathly mission's that lasted a year or more... his chest pained him he would miss her. Her love for books was just as big as his they've even read some of the same one's and than there was her conversation that was alway's light and easy, she was constantly brining a smile to his face even with her constant antics...she was making him feel less bad about his own shitty past.. once she was gone who wold he talk too... no one was all that rang through his mind. And she would be in the same position too if he couldn't stop it. While I was internally struggling with the dilemma. I hadn't realized the Third was staring me down. Judging my reaction. My brain was interrupted when he spoke again.
"Judging by your reaction to my word's I can see she definitely isn't ready to be on her own yet.. although I was hoping for her to be at top notch level after a month of training. But I guess even I can't expect miracles..." He stopped than sighed. "I suppose it can't be helped for now. Kakashi you will continue to watch, guide and train y/n until she is fully ready. Although right now I don't have a mission to send you on yet I'm sure it'll take no time for some to come spilling on to my desk." He finished taking a long draw off his pipe. He tilted his head down and looked to the window.
"Kakashi I won't lie we have lost so many good Shinobi over the years due to these damn wars...we need to protect and continue to nurture our young ninja to have them succeed where we have failed. Although I know you're aware of that." He paused yet gain making sure to catch my eye and that I was paying attention. I knew he only did this when he was being deathly serious or threatening someone. And I just so happened to be that someone right now. Although I knew he wouldn't hurt me physically he'd find a way to do it mentally. I held his gaze. Unwilling to let him win. He sighed before speaking again.
"But we also have some very talented ninja already working here in the village and I would hate for them to go a stray for a small girl who yes has amazing potential but she is not worth their life or job. Do not. And I will repeat just to make my point very clear do not get too attached to this girl. Kakashi she'll only pull you down in her madness. And she only need's trained till she can go out on her own again anyways...I have very special plans for her..." he took another drag of his pipe. " She has her path and you have yours. Do I make myself clear?"
"Yes sir." I responded trying to put as much venom in my tone as possible now feeling disgusted being in the same room as him. He dismissed me and told me to go home and rest till we were needed. I was so angry I could hardly think straight as I walked out of the building heading straight for y/n's house... my head was a swirl of emotions which fucking sucked because just like y/n.. I was also fucked in the head and still going through shit. Her's was just on a whole other level than mine. What had he gotten himself into... and as he continued walking more another irritating thought was pulling at him... WHY THE HELL IS HER HOUSE SO FUCKING FAR! It was like walking to another village. It took him twenty minutes to get there and he was completely worn out. Before his hand even touched the door it swung open a smiling y/n booming back at him. He sighed but this time differently. What he really wanted to do was hug the girl that looked slightly confused at him. Her face helped un-cloud his vision and thoughts, he was so stressed out on the way here and now it was like it never happened. Although it did... and he wouldn't forget it. Because he was going to some how get y/n away from the Hokage. He didn't know why he was doing it or what force was pulling him to her but some how he would find away. He couldn't save his other friends... but he would her. She sat on the couch and patted beside her. He accepted her invitation without hesitation. As he sunk deeper into her comfy sofa he watched her pour tea into two cups and hand him one. It felt so nice in his cold hands it sent a shiver down his spine. I closed my eye wishing to start the whole day over again.

Y/n watched Kakashi push himself deeper still into the couch. She wasn't quite sure what was wrong with him.. she would ask. Maybe a little later though.. what she was having a hard time doing was waiting to ask how the meeting with the Hokage went. But she needed to make sure he was okay first. Kakashi had been so good to her over the last few weeks she couldn't help but start liking him. Anyone one would like him he was a pretty chill dude. But y/n was pretty sure she liked him so much because he acted normal around her... he made her feel like she was an actual person and that her opinions and thoughts mattered too.. no one ever bothered to ask her what she wanted. All she ever heard were order's they were her whole life. But she still remembered the conversation Kakashi had with her the night before they left her favorite house in the mountains... ***FLASH BACK 3rd POV***
" I don't understand Kakashi what are you saying?" Y/n asked confused as hell. Kakashi sighed she just wasn't getting it. He rubbed the back of his head. They had a fire going outside in the front yard. Laying on their backs looking up at the stars. It was beautiful and y/n had her telescope out they had been looking through it for awhile before deciding to take a break. He rolled to his side propping his head on his hand so he could get a better look at her. She repeated his action and squinted at him until they both laughed. "Okay listen. I know you have mission's and those mission's always come' with a set of rules. Which are usually called orders."
"Kakashi I said I was confused not stupid." She interrupted while giggling. Kakashi mentally smacked himself because he just couldn't explain this right. And her laughter was making it hard to think. It was so light and carefree...he could listen to it for hour's it wrapped around him making him smile in return because it felt great making some one happy for once instead of mad like usual. And what made it feel even better than that was it was her laughter. That's why it felt so great. He remembered the first time she had laughed. He was so shocked that he had stopped what he was doing. Making y/n wonder why. When he told her she got embarrassed and tried not to let it slip anymore. But Kakashi made that impossible. He adored her laughter so he vowed than and there he would make it his mission to make her laugh as much as possible. And he definitely achieved his goal finally making her realize it was great to laugh and that it was normal everyone did it. Hell she had made him laugh more than everyone in his life combined.
"Quit zoning out on me like alway's and try to help me understand what you're saying." Her voice pulled Kakashi back to reality. He shook his head and continued where he left off. "What I'm trying to say is orders aren't always right y/n... just because the Hokage gives you orders doesn't mean you have to follow them to a T.. yes try to carry out your mission but if something were to happen you should also take yourself into consideration." She looked away. Unsure of how to feel about what he said. She knew it wasn't like that for her. It had never been. She either competed her mission or didn't come back at all. She had no choice. Kakashi gently touched her chin with his hand making her flinch, but he didn't pull away like usual. He let her adjust to his touch than lifted her head, making her eye level with him. He stared into her pale eye's that were absolutely beautiful as the sky and campfire fought for dominance in them. But he kept focused making sure to remember why he had grabbed her in the first place. She was also staring back at him. Even though he kept his left eye covered she still found his right one to be quite beautiful on it's own. Unsure if she could even handle it if both his eye's were watching her. "You're life is worth something y/n. You are worthy enough to have an actual life to live in the village with your fellow shinobi.. with me...we could hang out and you know maybe go on mission's together when you're settled... to be with well... people. You are so energetic I doubt you'd have a hard time finding friend's." He finished but he didn't remove his hand. She didn't respond to him first because she didn't know what to say and his hand on her skin was making it hard to think feeling so uncomfortable from the constant contact and second because she knew it was a lie and even if she was worthy the Hokage would never let her have just a normal shinobi life. She was born unlucky and would die that way. But she was okay with it. She had accepted her fate long ago. All she wanted now was to enjoy the small of time she had left getting to hang out and getting to know Kakashi. Her one and only friend. But he wouldn't let her chin go till she responded. She sighed. And put on a smile hoping it would convince him... after all she was still kind of new to doing it anyways. "If you say so Kakashi. I'll try to keep it under consideration." He nodded than let her face go. She laid back down continuing like nothing had happened.
****END FLASH BACK****
***3RD Pov***
Both Y/n and Kakasi were lost in thought on her couch. They sat in silence for awhile before Y/n finally broke it.
"Are you alright Kakashi?" He didn't even spare her a glance. She watched him stare at his hands like he was waiting for them to do something. She knew that feeling well. "Kakashi sensei?" Silence...well fuck. He didn't even try to correct her. And in all honesty it felt odd calling him that now. She didn't know what to do to break his attention from his thoughts. He alway's gently poked her cheek which she hated at first. Than she gradually got use to it and Kakashi was more than excited that something he did didn't make her flinch. Y/n sat on her knee's and slowly moved forward already feeling heat rising from her chest every inch she moved closer. She stopped right before her finger touched his masked face. He hadn't even noticed she was so close to him. Or that her face was about to melt from the extremely deep red she was turning all over. Y/n took a shaky deep breath than very gently pushed her finger into his cheek. Than removed it. She looked down to his face that was now staring directly at her. She froze from embarrassment knowing she had touched him on purpose. And her blush deepened again. Kakashi was shocked. He had been so deep in thought that when a small cold finger touched his face he practically had a heart attack. But it was just Y/n poking him. When his face finally landed on her she was practically glowing red. He wasn't joking either. From her shoulders all the way to her face she was red. He couldn't help but smile. Her blushes only ever made her look cute. Sometime's he couldn't stand it.
"I'm sorry!" She yelled ready to flee. But Kakashi caught her wrist and pulled it gently reverting her attention back to him.
"We talked about this Y/n...stop running from me." She sighed and sat back down. He dropped her wrist waiting for her to explain. "I am sorry though..." She said than curled up in a ball pushing deeper into the cushions. Kakashi noticed she did this after every uncomfortable interaction between them. Yes she scared him. But she was always complaining about him spacing out on her. She did it too but no where near as bad as him. So what she had done was fine he would of done the same plus he really didn't mind her always cold touch. He wondered if that was why she alway's wanted to wear her jacket.
"Nothing to be sorry for." He sighed knowing he would have to tell her the uhm..base details of what the Hokage said he could tell she really wanted to know. "Are you alright?" She question once again. He nodded. "Just lost in thought like alway's. Anyways the Hokage said I should keep training you and that we'll ll start...your Anbu training as soon as a mission comes in. Of course that doesn't mean we slack off though. We'll still train like we did before we left. Can't have you getting lazy on me."
She rolled her eye's at him in response if anyone was lazy it was him. Huh the Anbu... Y/n still wasn't really happy about being forced into them. Especially because she had already turned the offer down year's ago. Five in fact...right after that she received her five year long mission...The pieces started to come together. The Hokage had planned this all a long.. so she'd be forced to join no matter what... her fists balled beside her catching Kakashi's attention. He looked at her from the corner of his eye wondering what she was thinking about.
"What's wrong." She shook her head at him than placed it back on top of her knee's. "Yeah that's not good enough. What's wrong..." "Ugghh. Kakashi stop talking." She said grabbing a pillow to cover her head. He got closer to her than asked again. "Tell me. You know I won't back down." She groaned knowing he was right...so she decided to answer.
"You know how I already turned down the offer to join the Anbu awhile back right?" He could hear her fine but he wished she would remove the pillow from her head. He hummed in response. "Yeah.. well think about it. After I said no the Hokage sent me on that long mission. And now that I'm back...well I'm joining anyways...". The realization hit him. All he could do was stare at the pillow the wheels turning in overdrive. FUCK! She was right. What the hell why was he doing this to her. It was only cementing the fact that Kakashi had lost respect for the man. He didn't trust him and he was sneaky. He didn't like rebelling it wasn't really him but someone had to put their foot down. He glanced at the white headed girl who was now pulling the pillow to her chest and resting on it. She wasn't going to do it. Mannn... guess it would really have to be him. Was she really worth it though... she looked up at him her blue eye's full of confusion. Sighhhh. Yeah she was worth it damnit. "Are you hungry? It's getting a bit late..." She stood up questioning him. He nodded so she cooked dinner in silence. Than just as before she went outside while he ate and puffed on a much needed cigarette. Her whole life really was a bunch of lies and hidden motives... she looked down to the garden that needed tending really bad than sighed. The city just wasn't the forest.. she was missing it so badly already. The sound of people nearby only made her miss the seclusion more. Kakashi walked onto the balcony. He still didn't like that she smoked but it was her choice...she was allowed that. They again sat in a comfortable silence them both lounging on the ground reading their books the sun was going down so Kakashi thanked her and said bye. He shoved his hands in his pockets as he made his way home. Watching as the crowded streets began to dissipate. He made it to his apartment and unlocked the door announcing he was home to the empty space. He did his normal nightly routine feel slightly odd at the absolute quite around him.. after a month with the hyper white headed girl complete silence was deafening now. He struggled to get comfortable on his bed but finally sleep took him.
***Y/n Pov. TIME SKIP 2 DAYS LATER***
Y/n huffed and groaned at her burning side as Kakashi wrapped it up with some bandages not even caring about his touch for the pain.
"I told you to stop Y/n...why did you keep pushing it?"
She rolled her eye's at his scolding tone. She was still trying to get her fire under control but it wasn't going to well... "I told you I was fine. If you would have just let me continue this wouldn't have happened." I remember sitting on the training grounds like I alway's did and summoned the fire from within my chakra everything was going fine. Until Kakashi told me to stop as the flames grew bigger. I told him I was fine but no he panicked and jumped in pushing me which caused me to lose balance and the fire went everywhere I tried to contain it by pulling it back in getting pretty burnt in the process. Argggghhh. I moaned as he tied the knot. It was definitely not a pleasant feeling but I've had worse. I wince as I placed my hand on my side and began to heal it. Sure the outside wound was gone but it was pretty deep so he burn was still there under my skin. I stood up.
"Y/n damn it stop being reckless. You were not fine it was getting out of control." I turned around and waved him off. Pulling several kunai out and lunging them towards a target hitting the middle every time. "Stop ignoring me. You need a break we've been training for hours. Sit down and eat lunch."
I continued to ignore him. I really wasn't hungry and he had pissed me off. Every since we started training it was all I wanted to focus on but he kept trying to stop me telling me to take it slow but I didn't have the time for that plus I wasn't tired and the pain wasn't too bad. And like I said I've had worse. Plus you still have to fight when your injured this was just normal practice. But of course he wouldn't leave me alone. He jumped in front of me and I threw a kick towards him which he dodged easily. Than I threw a punch which he again dodged. But this time I could see the hint's of a smile under his mask. I growled under my breath ready to wipe the smirk of his stupid masked face. I dropped my jacket to the ground. He raised an eyebrow and all I could was smile at him...letting the confusion sink in. He had told me once before how fast I was. So now was the time to use that speed. Jumping to the tree in front of him I created some clones before disappearing into the woods behind us. I waited for my clones to push him towards me. Right when he defeated the last clone I sprung from the tree landing on him pushing us both to the ground. I held his arm behind his back and held a kunai to his throat.
"I win Hatake." I barely whispered out of breath. He didn't say anything. So I stood up and walked back to the training grounds. Grabbing my jacket and putting it back on. I walked to my bag and grabbed a water almost chugging the whole thing before finally sitting down. Wincing from pain. So maybe I had pushed it a... bit. Kakashi came walking up too sitting beside me but at a distance. He grabbed a container from his bag and handed me a rice ball. We ate in silence. I was not going to be the one to break it this time. I leaned back on my arms and looked at the sky. It had been two day's and they still hadn't received a mission...sitting around was boring. She didn't want to go to town too noisy.. and her house still felt rather foreign to her so all I could think to do was train to pass the time or read. I felt a poke to my injured side and my arm gave out from the instant pain causing me to fall and hit the ground. I groaned and held my side look up at the infuriating man who was now staring at me with another cocky smile.
"I thought you might have been all better since you kicked my butt earlier. So I was just checking but it seems you might have over done it as usual."
He laid on the ground and propped his arm up than rested his head on his hand looking at me waiting for a response. To which I didn't have one and there was no way in hell I was admitting he was right. I rolled my eye's getting back up slowly. I thought about leaving but I looked at my watch and it was only 2. Ughh...I didn't want to go home but there was nothing else to do. Kakashi stood up and held his hand out for me. I refused but he grabbed my hand anyways and pulled me up gently. I didn't look at him to mad to blush from his grip. He wouldn't let go though. So I continued to watch the ground. It was such a lovely shade of brown. After a moment I was tired of standing there so I looked up. His eye was observing causing my stupid face to blush.
"I'm sorry." He said. He dropped my hand and looked away running his hand through his hair. I watched his action with interest. His hair looked really soft and honestly I had wanted to touch it for awhile now. My anger was dying quickly. I didn't really hold grudges for long anyways it just took to much energy.
"I know you said you had everything under control. I was just worried it got so big and I thought you were losing it." He dropped his gaze to my side and huffed.
"Plus now your hurt too." I shrugged. "I got you back for it it's fine. These thing's happen it's fine that why we train" I smiled at him not really bothered by it anymore. He sighed.
"But you're still pushing it and you know it. I think that's enough for today anyways." He said looking at me waiting for me to argue. I sighed not ready to go home. I nodded and he walked away. I jumped back into a try pulling out my book. I read a few page's. Than went home. I cleaned and smoked a few cigarettes outside while reading some more. Than after awhile I noticed how dark it had gotten. So I jumped in shower and did my nightly routine. I called in bed tired for once and drifted off to sleep.
***3RD Pov**
Kakashi heard a knock on his door. He rolled over and looked at the clock. It was 7:20a.m. He groaned at the early disturbance. He got up and threw a shirt on making his way to the peep hole in the door it was an Anbu officer, standing there with a scroll in his hand. He opened the door and recognized him. "Yo." He said Lazily. The officer handed him a scroll.
"The Hokage has a mission for our team. I heard you've been training a new recruit. Hope she can keep up. Nice to have you back Hatake."
That was all he said before leaving. Kakashi closed the door and sighed. He opened the scroll. They would head out tomorrow morning for a mission protecting a Lords freight of gold while it is was being transported over the boarder. At least it wasn't that dangerous. He went back to his room and got dressed before heading out to Y/n's house to update her. They're last interaction together hadn't been to pleasant. She way over did it and got hurt but not only that she also planned a decent ambush that took him completely by surprise and kicked his butt, her landing on top of him was unexpected considering how she felt about touch. But that didn't matter because in the end she was still hurt and he proved it which pissed her off. She didn't say anything about it and went home without argument. He finally saw her house coming into view, he knocked on the door. But what he didn't know was Y/n was on her balcony smoking a cigarette. She was exhausted. Sure she fell asleep fast but the pain in her side wouldn't quit no matter how many times she tried healing. So here she was trying to kill her headache . When Y/n didn't answer the door Kakashi decided to try around back. He jumped on the roof and slowly stepped onto the balcony from the other side. Similar to what Guy had done the other day. He turned around and found Y/n with a small dagger in her hand right as his throat her face was scrunched up into a deathly glare and he sworn her eye's had actually turned a different color they almost looked grey. She had a cigarette smashed between her teeth. Kakashi didn't know why but it felt like he was staring death in the face. He put his hand's up in mercy and she relaxed. But not before nailing him in the arm good. "Ow! what the hell Y/n!" She smacked her forehead than backed away from him her cigarette now dangling by her lips and her heart was still pounding in fear and she was breathing shakily. She had been so relaxed than a body started to crawl onto her back porch of course she was freaked out!
"WHAT THE ATUAL FUCK KAKASHI! YOU CAN'T JUST CRAWL ONTO MY PORCH! WHAT ARE YOU DOING! I COULD OF KILLED YOU?!"
He rubbed his arm and watched her frightened but deathly glare hit the floor and she went with it plopping down as well. Her breathing was on over drive and she was now lighting another cigarette puffing on it like crazy. Her hands shakily grabbing it from her lips. He felt bad he scared the absolute crap out of her and almost died in the process. He made a mental note. Surprises and Y/n did not mix.
"I'm sorry I didn't mean to scare you I tried knocking on the door but you didn't answer so I thought I'd try this door I didn't realize you were out here..."
He trailed off. Not sure how to apologize. He put his hand to his neck than sat down beside her. Making sure to keep his distance. Only after her breathing was back to normal did he speak.
" I really am sorry. I won't do it again...it was really stupid of me but I came with news we have a mission. It's not complicated. Just helping guard some gold. We leave tomorrow morning."
Y/n nodded now that she was back to normal. Kakashi must have been on a personal mission to one day give her a hear attack. He handed her a scroll that she skimmed over. It was easy so that was good at least her first mission wasn't going to be straight up hard core.
"How many people will be there?" He paused for a moment. "Maybe three. Four of us? So one or two new people." She sighed new people suck. They sat in silence for awhile. "Sorry..." She whispered almost too low for Kakashi to hear. He tilted his head at her confused. She giggled causing him to smile.
"For almost killing you. I've been taught to strike first and ask question's later. The only reason I stopped was because of your hair than I realized it was you. But still not cool man. And your not stupid. I'm just jumpy...not use to city life I guess...is it normal for people to climb down from the roof to visit other people?"
Kakashi busted out laughing at her question and the fucked up situation they had just been in. She punched him in the same spot as before causing him to wince but he smiled too. Knowing he deserved it.
"No. It's not normal. But neither of us are. And for the killing part you had me seriously worried but I'm actually blown by your reflexes. And if you use that glare with our enemies they're sure to piss their pants."
It was her turn to laugh now. Y/n invited Kakashi for dinner and he agreed. There was no training today since they needed to be fresh for the mission. They hung out and read books for the rest of the day. Both glad for each other's company. The sun fell and Kakashi left. Y/n washed the dishes, packed her bag and got ready for the night. She took a sleeping pill so she would actually sleep on account of how excited she was to be finally doing something and past out soon after.
