***TIME SKIP OCT 25th. DAY OF Y/N'S PARTY 3rd POV***

Kakashi had been looking in town for a present for three day's nothing he found seemed like well.. her..Y/n was a unique person. He didn't just didn't want to buy her any old thing it needed to scream Y/n and have some of Kakashi in it too. Something that symbolized their friendship. He was starting to panic her...party was in two hours what was he going to do...he walked past a book shop then froze, walking backwards to the door. Hmmm. Y/n loved books and so did he. Making up his mind Kakashi entered the shop. The smell of paper and ink hit his face. Aahh he had always loved the smell of books. He browsed around the shelves looking for the perfect book. He knew he'd seen her read the icha icha books but they weren't her favorite. She was usually seen reading Victorian romance. He didn't know a lot about it. But he remembered a book she had read once. He approached the cashier and explained his situation and well lucky him a new one in the series had just been released, he made his purchase and the cashier wrapped it in paper handing it to him but before he left a book mark stood out to him it was pale blue with silver designs and had a pretty grey and blue stone dangling from the side, the stone almost looked like both their eye colors mixed. Now that was definitely something that reminded him of her so he turned around and payed for it. Just as he stepped outside an Anbu officer approached him. "Kakashi Hatake the Hokage would like to see you immediately. It's very urgent."
He wasn't sure what was going on but his stomach seemed to turn as he approached the Hokage's office. Something had been off with the Third for a few weeks now and he couldn't help but get the feeling this meeting was why. The Anbu officer that had escorted him there suddenly stopped and turned to him. "Wait here." Was all he said before going through the Hokage's door. Leaving Kakashi there to think for about fifteen minutes the pit in his stomach growing bigger by the second. Finally the door swung open causing him to jump. He walked forward and the Anbu stood aside to let him in closing the door behind him. Kakashi approached the Third Hokage who was like always smoking his pipe. Hiruzen watched Kakashi with scrutinizing eyes. He watched him squirm and drop his head to the floor as he remained silent. A huge sigh escaped Hiruzen's lips breaking the tension.

"Well Hatake I must say I didn't think this was going to happen during my reign but here we are I suppose." He paused to take another drag. Still watching Kakashi who hadn't looked up. "You know son you used to look back at me when I stared you down. And here you are now watching the floor grow dust. What's happened to you?" Kakashi snapped his head up than. "Nothing's happened sir. I am as I've always been." He watched the Hokage raise a brow at him than settle back in his chair. "No that's where your wrong I'm afraid. You've lost your kick kid. I've been watching you lately. The drive that made you perfect for the Anbu is gone." "That's not true I'm..." Kakashi's argument was cut off by the Third raising his hand. "Please let me finish. Nothing you say now will change my mind. So at least let me say my peace. And hear me out." The silver haired ninja relaxed his shoulders unwilling still wanting to refute his words.

"Now son you've been with us for a long time. And even though the Anbu is no longer suited for you." "But sir please here me out!" Kakashi tried to plead but Hiruzen didn't stop, talking over him. "I think you will make an excellent Sensei. You've done well with Y/n and she has proved herself ready to stand on her own two feet. All thanks to your help of course." He paused letting Kakashi soak up the information. But after a moment of silence became impatient and decided to continue.

"Kakashi Hatake you are here by relieved of your Anbu duties and shall now assume the roll as a teacher effective immediately. I have a file here filling you in on all the details."

The Hokage stopped speaking but all Kakashi could hear was ringing in his ears. Completely taken back. He was being forced to leave the Anbu and be a... a teacher...

"Wait...what I don't understand? What about Y/n?" "It's not too complicated really. Your skills would be of better use to me as a teacher and her's still serve as great use to the Anbu so she will stay in her position. Of course I will still send you on regular missions from time to time I'm sure you'll see each other still. So why don't you take a few days off to soak everything in huh?"

He stood from his chair and handed the still stunned silver haired ninja the folder and than pushed him out the door. Kakashi was so in shock he couldn't move. He froze there and he didn't know how long he'd been standing frozen in time before a familiar face was in front of him talking. Kakashi shook his head to clear his head and found Guy enthusiastically talking to him. "You're going to the party right Kakashi? It's almost time I just came to drop off some paper work. Let's head out together!" Guy was practically pushing Kakashi out of the building and down the street to Kurenai's house. He was on auto pilot unsure of what to feel about everything happening right now.

Y/n was a bit aggravated. She didn't want to go through with the stupid birthday party but Kurenai had insisted and so did Guy. Kakashi said he didn't care what she did they could read books all day for all he cared. But she just couldn't disappoint her friend by rejecting her. So here she was sitting on Kurenai's couch talking to Asuma about work. She wasn't to sure about Asuma but he was good to her friend so she let him slide. Guy was late because he needed to go to the Hokage's office and who the hell ever knew where Kakashi was. Just as that thought crossed Y/n mind there the two of them were. "Y/N! HAPPY BIRTHDAY! YOU ARE LOOKING EVER SO YOUTHFUL!" Poor Y/n had to cover her ears from his insistent shouting plus her close proximity. Asuma punched him.
"Dude we have neighbors! Keep it down will you!"
All Y/n could do was chuckle. Watching Guy, Asuma and Kurenai argue loudly about how loud Guy was being. She turned to look at Kakashi that was sitting on the couch his head leaning over the top of it just staring blankly at the ceiling. He looked extremely stressed and lost so she and went over to cheer him up.

"Hey there chuckles don't let me spoil your happy mood. Problem is only I'm allowed to be unhappy at my party. Birthday girl rules you know." She finished and touched his arm. He jumped and looked at her startled. She instantly worried not liking the way he was acting. She put her hands on the side of his face making him look at her. "Hey Kakashi what's wrong?" He didn't respond and only looked at her with a million troubles in his eye it worried Y/n she had never seen him like this so lost. She rubbed her thumb on his cheek trying to get some kind of response out of him. "You can tell me any thing you know that right? Do you want to leave? If it's the party we can go right now and head to my place."

He seemed to regain his senses and shook his head smiling at her sadly. It was her party and she was willing to ditch just to make him feel better. She was so sweet some times and all he could do right now was enjoy her hands on his face. They were cold like always and every time she touched his face, which was not often, it tingled almost like she was rubbing small bits of electricity on his skin. He couldn't help but feel the pit in his stomach sink lower. He was leaving her, they wouldn't see each other as much since all her missions were usually outside the village and they lasted weeks. He wouldn't know if she was safe until she came back. He knew she could handle herself now but damn it she was still so reckless there was a good chance she would get hurt. And he could do nothing to stop it. His thoughts were starting to completely consume him and with out realizing he pulled Y/n into a hug. Holding her tight not want to let go, not willing to face the uncertainty of his future. The Anbu had been everything to him, he didn't know how to do anything else and now he would be teaching little kids. Teaching Y/n was one thing, she was older and learned quickly plus she was already really talented so it hadn't been all that hard. Kids were different, young and stupid. He didn't even like being around them. Y/n tried to release Kakashi's grip on her waist while he was trying to suffocate her with his unconscious hug.

"Kakashi come on let go I can't breath is everything alright?" Her voice snapped him back to reality as he became painfully aware that everyone witnessed what he'd just done. He blushed letting her go than got up and walked outside not saying anything. Y/n stood up and smiled a bit embarrassed. "I'm just going to check on him I'll be right back I swear!" She ran out the door after him. Kurenai sighed. Kakashi better not fuck up her birthday.

"You know come to think of it Kakashi has been acting weird ever since I found him standing in front of the Hokage's door earlier."
Guy announced out of the blue. Kurenai smacked his arm. "Why the hell didn't you tell us that earlier?"

Y/n could hear the muffled conversation inside as she walked outside trying to find her favorite silver haired ninja. She crossed her arms over her chest feeling the new incoming cold cling to her body. The seasons were changing and fall was her favorite time of year but she had forgotten her jacket inside. She walked forward and swore she heard breathing so she looked up to see none other than the great copy cat ninja himself sitting on the roof above her. He was watching the sunset and hadn't even noticed her presence. Which only worried her more because that wasn't like him to space out this bad he always knew when she was near. She decided to jump to the roof as well and sat next to him watching the way the sun bounced off his silver locks made Y/n wish she could take a picture. The idiot had no idea how handsome he really was even if she still hadn't seen what was under that mask of his. But by the looks of the rest of his face she was more than certain he was handsome under there as well. She reached out her hand and grabbed his. He turned to her and blinked for a moment before realizing it was Y/n's tiny cold hand in his. She brought it closer to her and pleaded at him with her gorgeous pale blue eyes. He almost crumbled right there but knew this news was best discussed in private. "Kakashi please tell me what's wrong you've been acting really odd and I just want to understand." He gave her his best fake smile ever. Only to be smacked on the arm. He looked at her and pouted.
"Don't give me that crap Hatake. I know your bullshit smile don't even try to pull that on me I'll kick your sorry ass right here if you want."

Kakashi sighed he didn't think that'd fool her but he was hoping. "Yes something is wrong. But... I want to wait till after the party to discuss it okay? Plus nows not the time your shivering."

He begged her to agree. She watched him for a moment the cold continuing to prick her skin she sighed before finally letting his hand go than stood only to turn around and once again grab his hand to help him up.

"Alright. I'll hold you to it." That was all she said before jumping down and waiting for him to follow her. He complied and tried to enjoy her birthday. It was difficult at first but he loosened up over time. Asuma brought sake and Kakashi couldn't help but have a few shot's ignoring Y/n's complaints about being responsible and that he was under age. Than her gifts were given to her. Kurenai and Asuma gave her a beautiful silver neckless with a green stone in it that matched her skin well. And Guy gave her a little grey stuffed wolf it had spike hair on its head and grey eye's. Y/n blushed lightly since it reminded her of Kakashi which also made her laugh comparing the two. Than Kakashi gave her a book, that she hadn't even realized had come out already, and a beautiful book mark that also some how reminded her of him. She loved them all and than the party got a bit more wild while they played card games and drank. Kakashi had three more shot's and was now feeling much better it was like all his stress just faded way. He watched the white haired beauty win another round of card's against Guy who was now drunk yelling about a rematch as well as Asuma. Y/n laughed as she got up putting on her jacket and walking outside telling them she'd be right back. This upset Kakashi because he didn't say she could leave yet. He wobbled to the door and found his way to the side walk where a certain blue eye'd girl was smoking and enjoying the fresh air. She had her jacket pulled tightly around her which caused Kakashi frown not wanting her to be cold. As he made his way over she turned around and flashed that sweet smile of hers at him. Man when she gets older that was going to cause problems for him was all that crossed his mind. He plopped down beside her leaning his head on her leg enjoying the small bit of contact. She leaned down and patted his head. And he hummed in response.

"Your drunk huh?" It didn't bother her too much this actually wasn't the first time seeing him drunk it really only happened when something was bothering him. He nodded than wrapped his arm around her leg like a little kid making her chuckle lowly. Kakashi always became really clingy when he was drunk, and he was usually clinging to her. Which again she didn't mind it honestly put her at ease knowing he felt comfortable enough around her to let loose and depend on her.

"You wanna go home?" She questioned again after some silence he nodded again still not letting her go. She bent down breaking his hold on her causing him to pout. "You stay here I'm going to tell everyone bye. I'll be right back alright?" Y/n wouldn't leave till Kakashi gave her some form of acknowledgment that he understood her. "Fine. But I don't wanna wait long." He said laying on the sidewalk. She rolled her eye's than went back inside collecting her things and thanking everyone for such an awesome time. They asked if she wanted help taking Kakashi home but she refused politely.

"No I'm alright. You know how he get's when he's like this." Asuma nodded. And Guy shouted with a beer in his hand. "Yes! HE'S AN ASS! Y/N I TELL YOU!" "Guy! Shut the hell up it's late!" Kurenai smacked him than hugged Y/n goodbye wishing her a wonderful birthday again. Once all that was over she made her way back to the silver haired ninja who was looking at her from the ground. He smiled and waved goofily. Y/n couldn't help but giggle at him he was rather cute when he was like this sometimes. She made her way over to him than supported him under her arm and threw the other one across her shoulder which was hard because he was really a heavy guy not to mention how much bigger he was in comparison anyways. "Kakashi you have to stand there's no way I can lift all your weight." He looked at her and stood wobbling on occasion.

It was one hell of a twenty minute walk but some how she managed to make it to Kakashi's house without killing either of them. He was currently slumped over the couch groaning at his empty stomach and she was in his kitchen cooking. She knew where everything was on the count of she'd been there a hundred time's now spending the night, talking, training, eating or just plain reading... his house almost felt like a second home. He never once turned her away when she came knocking and she alway's had an open door too. It was what made their relationship so awesome everything was alway's out in the open between them. Well usually anyways, whatever was bugging him tonight must be big. Y/n walked over to him slowly sitting him up straight handing him a plate of food and setting a glass of water on the table in front of him than placed a cool damp rag on the back of his neck. He enjoyed the coolness pricking at his skin and it was staring to sober him up a bit. Y/n turned away from him and started to pick thing's up off his messy floor. Book's, papers and a mask or two. This was also something she was alway's doing with him as well. He was like a child for real. She picked up after him all the time and he had her back so Y/n figured it was kind of an equal exchange.

Each bite Kakashi ate only sobered him up more. Once he was done he watched Y/n flit around his apartment tidying it up as she went. He smiled at her but his chest started to ache again remembering the conversation he had promised her back at the party. He didn't even know how to start but he could feel his time ticking down as she threw him a glance that said 'I know your sober and we're going to talk'. But she didn't approach him until she finished cleaning in the kitchen than she sat right in front of him on the coffee table folding her arms over her chest. A knot was in his throat knowing the time had arrived and he wasn't going to be able to get out of it. But nothing would come out of him mouth. Y/n was getting tired of being patient. "Come on Kakashi. Spit it out what's going on?"

He looked into her eye's watching the worry reflect back at him. Than he grabbed her always cold hand and swallowed beginning to speak holding her gaze.

"So uhm... well..you see I was. Well maybe that's too far back." He paused and took a deep breath collecting himself. "The Hokage called me to his office today." "Oh really do we have a new mission?" He shook his head no disappointedly. "Not quite. Actually he was giving just me a new mission." Y/n tilted her head slightly and raised an eyebrow not quite following where this was going. Why would the Hokage only give him a mission? Kakashi could see her confusion so he kept going. "He...well...kicked me off the team. Actually out of the Anbu. He said I'm lacking the drive for the work anymore. He wants me to be a teacher now and look after a genin team. Be their sensei kind of like what I did for you."

He watched the reactions on her face. First complete confusion. Than disbelief followed by her now angry face. Anger was usually alway's the end result emotion with her.

"Your fucking with me Kakashi." He shook his head no. Jumping slightly at her angry tone. He didn't know such a small person could be so threatening and scary when mad. "For real now quit playing and tell me what's really going on." Kakashi sighed and looked down at the water on the table. Y/n watched this waiting for him to tell her he was just joking. But he wasn't doing that he was just staring at his glass. Oh no.. he was serious actually mother fucking serious! HELL TO THE NO! This was not happening not if she had something to say about it.

"The Hokage told you that?" "Yeahhhh..." He mumbled feeling completely defeated never in a hundred years did Kakashi think that he of all people would be kicked out of his own team. Yes he had expected the Hokage to take Y/n from him at some point. But he had never imagined he'd be ripped from her in this way.. but unfortunately something rung in his mind. The Hokage was right about one thing. His drive that kept him in the Anbu was gone..he really had lost his 'kick' it was because of, Kakashi looked up to the infuriated now grey eye'd girl, her she was the reason he didn't enjoy that dark life anymore. He was too wrapped up in her life in their life that they had been living this last year. Just enjoying each other's company while reading or training, talking. Sitting with each other in complete silence. No obligations to each other just the unspoken bond they had formed. He craved her presence, it quieted all his dark inner thoughts...of his father, and team. She was like a magical cure who just so happened to stumble at his door. At first he really didn't like her. But she quickly changed his opinion long ago and now she was his best friend. His true friend. He relished in her knowledge and company. But now that would stop. Sure he'd see her on occasion. But not like before.

"We'll change his mind!" Y/n shouted pulling Kakashi back for his inner void. "Wait what? Did I miss something?" She shook her head exasperated by his constant aloofness. "Yes quit spacing man. We'll change his mind. I'll change his mind. I'll go over there immediately and speak with him."

She turned on her heel ready to leave but Kakashi caught her arm. She turned to look at him irritated. Why was he stopping her? They needed to leave now to fix this whole fucking mess! "Kakashi let go we need to leave. If you want to stay here that's fine but I'm going."
"Y/n please stop for a moment and listen to me...Please." She looked at the desperation in his eye... and let loose a sigh sitting on his couch. This time it was his turn to sit on the table and face her.

"He's right Y/n my desire to stay in the Anbu is gone sure I like being on the same team. It makes the work more enjoyable. But that's the only reason I was still there. Although I'm not thrilled... I don't like knowing you'll be there in harm's way and there's nothing I can do about it... Plus we both know damn well he won't change his mind."

She only sat there and stared at him completely shell shocked. Her brain was trying to process. Kakashi knew she was a smart girl. She was putting all the pieces together and was trying to figure out a plan. But the longer she stayed silent the more she frowned and scrunched her eyebrow's. He didn't like it so he took his thumb and pressed it on the crease between her brows smoothing it out. She looked up at him a bit surprised but it was instantly turned into a look of hopelessness. It tugged at his heart strings making his chest hurt more. She looked to the ground and they both sat in silence for awhile.

"You can quit with me." He suggested not sure if she'd take the bait. But she scoffed unamused. "We both know Hiruzen won't let me do that." Y/n's voice was completely devoid of emotion and sounded like she was in a far off world. Kakashi put his hand under her chin forcing her to look up at him catching her gaze, holding her there making sure she came back from the depths of her own mind. Something he understood quite well.

"You never know unless you ask?" She rolled her eye's before setting them back on him. "Alright Kakashi go to him and tell him I want to quit. What do you think he'd say?" Kakashi played it out in his head a few times and none of his scenarios turned out to be good one's. They both sighed at the same time. He let go of her chin as she pulled out a cigarette walking towards the door. He followed her like a lost puppy and they both sat on his stoop. She puffed on it slowly completely lost in thought. She knew Kakashi couldn't convince the Hokage to let her quit no more than she could convince him to let Kakashi stay in the Anbu. They were in a dilemma. She figured this was all playing out just the way the Third wanted it too. He alway's had some twisted way of making thing's he wanted happen. The both sat there lost in thought. But something kept nagging at the back of Y/n's mind and it was bubbling to the surface fast.

"Will...will I still get to see you..." Y/n voice was barley a whisper because she didn't want Kakashi to hear the tears starting to sting her eyes. She looked down allowing her hair to shield her face from his until she could be composed again. He looked down at her only seeing a wall of white covering her face. He didn't like the tone she had used and he would do anything to reassure her that this was not the end of their friendship it was just going to have to rearrange a bit.

"Don't be stupid you can't get rid of me that easily Uchiha." She gave a weak chuckle that didn't reach her voice. "You swear." She said looking at him with her pinky out. He couldn't help but laugh at her a bit. Her immaturity was cute. He laced his finger with hers completely engulfing it.

"You're such a child sometimes. But yes I promise." He laughed. She smacked him while smiling. "I am not. I'm fifteen now remember? I'm practically a full grown woman." "Ha! Hardly you still have a way's to go short stuff."

This time she smacked him harder. And the both laughed. They felt better although both of them were still feeling down. They went back inside and spent the whole night talking eventually passing out on each other.

***TIME SKIP THREE MONTH"S KAKASHI"S POV***

I was smiling while Y/n was ranting about a mission she had been on the last week. Apparently it hadn't gone well. She'd been gone for awhile and looked really run down. So I came to her house to cook her dinner. Plus I just missed her in general. And now we were currently on her balcony while she smoked like always.

"And that's why were getting a new captain I guess." "You're getting a new captain?" She lightly punched his arm smiling at him.
"Well duh. We can't be captainless forever. Kurenai didn't want the job and neither do the guys. I also refused I'm more of a hands on kind girl ya know?"

He couldn't help but smile again remembering his time in the Anbu with her. She was right. Y/n alway's jumped at the chance for action. Being a leader wasn't really her thing and although she was an awesome team player Y/n was still more of a lone wolf in her own way. She followed order's yeah but they were vague rule's when it came to completing her mission. Especially if the rule's were for safety. She'd do whatever she could to complete a mission, even if it meant putting herself in harms way. She lit another cigarette turning her back to him. "Who's it going to be?" She turned to him and puffed out smoke. "Hmmm. I think it was Yamato?" He nodded. He knew Yamato he was a good guy which made him feel a bit better knowing she was going to be in good hands.

"He's a pretty good guy. I think you'll get along well." She huffed at him and puffed her checks out than walked over and squished his face in between her hands. "Well if someone wasn't such a softie you'd be my captain." She said while talking like a baby. She let go and giggled a bit. Than she sat next to him and her gaze fell on the sunset. "I really miss you. I could get away with a lot more bullshit when you were around" I laughed while turning to look at her now frowning face. "It's just not the same you know..." She than pulled her knees to her chest and looked at him. I hated when she did this because all it ever made me want to do was pull her in for a hug. But I restrained myself and patted her kneeing smiling. "I do miss being on your team.. but I don't miss the work at all. Although being a teacher is no better."

I sighed running my hands through my hair. She laughed. "What being a sensei not going so well?" "Ha! Well is a far statement. I've failed over five teams now." I retorted full of frustration. "None of them know what team work is. At this rate I'm going to start rotting away at home...". She full on laughed at him and is his simple worries. He couldn't help but laugh with her about about how boring his life had become. "Don't worry I'm sure you'll get a normal mission soon. If you want I heard they were looking for volunteers for nightly patrol duty outside the gate's. Wanna join me?" Guard duty was boring as hell but he didn't mind wasting a evening if they got to hangout for awhile. "Yeah I guess. Not like I have anything better to do." He replied honestly. After that he wished her a good night on the account she had started to yawn and knew she was tired.

I unlocked my apartment door and announced I'm home like usual to know one. I grabbed a shower, brushed my teeth than laid in bed pulling out my book. I was getting really lost in the story when I looked up and it was already 12:40. Damnit I needed to go to bed. So I closed my book putting it on my night stand and turning off the light. And for some reason I feel asleep quicker than I had in a whole week.
