Y/n smacked Kakashi in the head as he started to blush at his book. "I've read those you know. And by the look on your face I'd say you're no better than Jiraiya sensei."
Kakashi rubbed his head a bit embarrassed that she'd caught him. Although he really didn't care. They both knew Jiraiya and read his books so she really wasn't any better than him. "Oh speaking of Jiraiya." Kakashi said pulling a note from his pocket handing it to her. She wiped her hands on her shorts and grabbed the letter. Y/n and Kakashi had been sparing for the last few hours. She was improving immensely and her physical strength was great although still no match to his. But that was to be expected she really wasn't that big of a person anyways. He watched her read the letter her eyebrow's scrunching in the process.
"Hey what the hell how come that bastard didn't write me a note saying he's coming back?" He cocked an eyebrow at her with a smirk under his mask. "I mean he know's were friend's. I'm sure he didn't tell you because he knew I would."
She huffed at him still. She was a bit upset he'd took the time to write Kakashi a note and not her. But her bad mood didn't last long as Jiraiya had stated he was going to be returning in about a week. And the post was dated from three day's ago. It'd been awhile since either one of them had seen him
"You wanna bet he's written a new book and has run out of 'inspiration'." She quoted his words to a T wiggling her eyebrow's. Kakashi laughed and than returned to his book. But Y/n thought he'd had enough of a break now and snatched it from him holding it just out of his reach.
"Hey give it back." She point her finger to her chin mimicking a thinking face than shook her head no.
"Hmmm. Nope I think I'll keep it for now you've been sitting there forever. Get back up and spar with me."
He sighed and stood up holding out his hand. She handed him back his book and Kakashi put it away standing in a fighting pose running at her. They sparred unaware that eye's were now upon them watching their every move.
Hmmm seems youth is blooming everywhere the stalker thought. They watched for a few more hour's before the two shinobi said goodbye and separated for the evening. The stalker decided to follow the silver haired one. Kakashi couldn't help but feel like he was being watched. He had felt that way for a few hour's while him and Y/n sparred but he had decided not to pay it too much mind. But now that he was alone the feeling got stronger. And it never went away, not even after he got home and locked the door. Kakashi looked through the peep hole but no one was there. He sighed than turned around almost falling to the floor having a heart attack as his eye landed on a familiar white haired sannin standing before him with a huge smile. Kakashi held his heart ready for it to burst out of his chest at anytime.
"Hiya Kakashi. Whatcha doin?" He said so casually it was like he forgot he just broke into his house! Kakashi was at a complete loss for words and just silently sat on the couch trying to collect himself. "Sorry Kakashi didn't mean to scare you I have...this." He handed Kakashi a new Icha Icha book. His eye popped than.
"Hell yeah thank you Jiraiya!" He said super stoked to finally have new material to read. "I was going to give it to you earlier but I spotted you with a certain white haired lady I know and didn't want to ruin the moment."
Kakashi was confused now unsure of what he was talking about until he remembered Y/n.
"Oh yeah. We were sparring earlier and... wait a minute...". He froze glaring at Jiraiya. Who was now turning a bit pink.
"We're you spying on me and Y/n?" Jiraiya threw his hands up in defense. "What no I would never. But I am starting to wonder.. are you together?"
Kakashi blushed and stood up immediately. "ABSOLUTELY NOT! We're just friends I swear ask her yourself!"
He didn't need Jiraiya getting the wrong idea about them. Plus Y/n would kick both their asses just to prove a point. Jiraiya watched Kakashi with scrutinizing eyes than huffed. "What a shame I could really use inspiration for my book. Maybe I will go ask her."
He mumbled the last part and it took Kakashi a minute to hear it but before anything could be done he was gone. He crashed back on the couch completely confused about what was going on right now. But the Icha Icha book caught his attention on the cushion beside him and he couldn't help him self. So he repositioned on the couch getting comfy and lost in his new book.
***TIME SKIP NEXT DAY 3RD POV ***
Kakashi was eating lunch at Ichiraku ramen. Today had been rather peaceful so far. He didn't have a team to test and he didn't have a mission either. So in all honesty he was bored. He thought about bugging Y/n but she needed time to herself as well and they did spend the whole day together yesterday. He was zoning out on a picture on the wall when yelling came from behind him. Just as he turned around in walked Jiraiya with a black eye and right behind him was Y/n with her arms crossed over her chest fuming.
"Hey Y/n-chan I'm sorry alright I didn't know you'd freak out about me just appearing on your balcony." Jiraiya was whining at her when he spotted a silver haired ninja looking at the wall uninterested.
"Kakashi! Hey fancy seeing you here." He sat next to him and patted his back hard. "Yo... What's going on?"
Jiraiya blushed a bit and rubbed the back of his head. His purple eye was like a beacon on his face. He pointed to Y/n who was still standing there glaring at him with her arms crossed. Kakashi waved her over and she sat beside him without a word grabbing Kakashi's bowl and eating his soup.
"Hey that's mine whatever he's done to you leave my food out of it." He grabbed the soup from her which caused her to stick her tongue out at him.
"Fine. Jiraiya sensei can pay for mine since he's a pervert." She plucked a menu from the counter and looked over it still irritated.
"Can I ask what's going on?" The white haired sannin sighed and grabbed a menu too. "I just stopped by to say hello and she tried to kill me."
"Don't twist it around. I was on my balcony smoking in my pj's than this lunatic just drops himself from my roof almost crunching me in the process. I reacted normally. Not to mention is climbing down to peoples porch's just normal around here it seems to happen a lot."
Kakashi watched her bewildered expression and chuckled. It did seem to be something that regularly occurred with her. He couldn't help but smile at her pout when he felt an elbow on his side he turned to face Jiraiya who was now wiggling his eyebrow's at him. Kakashi blushed and shook his head no frantically. Making Jiraiya droop. They ate their food than all ended up walking towards the park. Y/n sat on the grass and lit a cigarette.
"Some one with such a pretty face as your's shouldn't be partaking in such unladylike activities."
A kunai flew at his head making him sweat. He held his hands up in surrender.
"Stuff it old man." Y/n said her eye's glaring at him. Kakashi just ignored them and sat down too reading his book. It wasn't long before the white haired man also sat with them falling easily into conversation. "I can't believe you've finally made it to Jonin girl good job!" Jiraiya announced high fiving Y/n. But the happy mood was quickly over shadowed at his next words.
"I am so sorry about your clan though it must be hard...I can't believe that boy did all of that."
She shrugged. It no longer really bothered her. Such were the way's of a ninja. Death was just a common occurrence in her life. Jiraiya watched her careful waiting for her to say something, but she never did so he sighed.
"If I didn't know you so well I'd say your heartless sometimes girly."
She looked at him and Kakashi got ready to move in case she pounced.
"I'm not... It's just... I don't really know honestly. I guess it doesn't bother me because I'm use to it."
Both of the men looked at her as she lit another cigarette than laid on her back watching the sky. The silver head ninja didn't know what to say to break the silence, but lucky for him Jiraiya did.
"I get it. Being a shinobi is hard. And you've lost a lot...so I can see why you feel that way everyone deals with it different I suppose. Like me I write to ease my sorrowful past."
He finished all dramatically causing Y/n to laugh sarcastically. She turned her head looking at the sannin.
"How does porn help your past sensei?" Kakashi about choked on his laughter and Jiraiya had a look of surprise on his face.
"It's not porn it's action! Adventure and romance! A very epic adult novel! Only to be enjoyed by a select special few."
He finished looking at her with hopeful eye's. Her expression was a complete deadpan. "So porn that especially caters to perverts than?" Kakashi couldn't help but loose it again. And Jiraiya cried out in exasperation. Kakashi couldn't help but enjoy this. Watching Y/n and Jiraiya battle it out over his pervertedness. Them all laughing it was nice to relax it was nice feeling wanted instead of dejected like usually. Even though he had left the Anbu thing's between him and Y/n hadn't changed which made him glad. He continued to laugh at his two favorite people hoping thing's would never change.
***TIME SKIP 3 MONTH'S 3RD POV (august 23rd)***
Kakashi had just failed another team. This was like twenty or so now? What the hell are they teaching these kids at the academy...Kakashi was in a bit of a mood. He hadn't seen Y/n in about two weeks and there were no missions so everything was painfully dull right now. He yawned than jumped up to a tree not far from Y/n's house like he had been doing for the last couple of day's hoping to catch her when she finally came back. It was about four or so hours later when Y/n noticed an aloof silver haired ninja reading a book in a tree on her way home. She smiled Knowing he was waiting there for her. As soon as she returned from her mission the Hokage put her on night patrol with Kakashi and told her to stop by his office right before her shift started. It puzzled her but she accepted not like she had much of a choice anyways. Y/n decided she had just enough energy to fuck with Kakashi. So she jumped up to a house close to him and slowly moved into the branches above not making a single sound or movement. He hadn't noticed her so she straddled the tree and turned upside down right above him.
"Whatcha doing? Your book any good?" Kakashi yelped than fell to the ground groaning about the pain in his butt. He looked up in surprise at Y/n smirking. He put his book away than lunged at her pinning them both to the ground.
"You think your so funny don't you?" She only laughed at him as he helped her up and they walked to her house. She turned the key than sighed falling to the couch. Kakashi picked up her legs and put them on his lap as he read his book. After a moment of silence Y/n broke it.
"Oh by the way we have patrol duty tonight. East side." He raised his eyebrow. That was all the way on the other side of town in the woods. He waited for to say kidding but she just remained silent.
"Wait your serious? But you just got back from a mission?" She shrugged sitting up. "Yeah I know but the Hokage assigned us himself. What was I supposed to say?"
Kakashi ran his hand through his hair and let his head fall back on the arm rest throwing his hands up. "I don't know...you're tired maybe?"
She sighed. "I am tired which is why I'm jumping in the shower and taking a nap I have to meet the Hokage before our shift."
Now he was confused. "What for?" She shrugged again that action was becoming a bad habit of hers almost as bad as his spacing out. "Don't know he just told me to come before my shift so we could talk about something. He didn't tell me anything else."
She stood up and looked at Kakashi. "Now I'm taking a shower and a nap. Are you staying or going?" He thought about it for a moment but decided it was best he leave. He told Y/n he'd meet her at the east gate. And don't be late to which he had a pillow thrown to his head as he ducked out the door. Y/n took her shower and past out on her bed immediately.
Kakashi was even more bored now than ever. Y/n was back but she was tired and now they had stupid patrol duty. It was several hour's before his shift started so he decided to make his way to Ichiraku's for some ramen. He walked in and noticed Asuma and Kurenai who was now waving at him to come over. Well guess it'll past the time a little faster if he talked to them. He gave his signature 'yo' than sat down ordering his food. "Hey Kakashi how's being a sensei going?" Asuma asked. He was in the same boat as him. Only he had finally found his team. "Eh? It's fine." He said rather uninterested. Than Kurenai piped in. "I miss you being captain Kakashi. Y/n does too trust me. Yamato has so many rules we're all getting a bit irritated with him."
She snickered than looked down a bit worried. "How is Y/n? She was exhausted when we got back from our mission. She of course did most of the work. But when we were debriefing him he was acting odd toward's her than he said she needed to speak to him before he put her on patrol. Which is stupid! We just came back from a two week long mission!" She clicked her tongue a bit aggravated. Y/n needed her sleep he was working her to death.
"Oh she's fine. She was getting ready to take a nap when I seen her." His calm demeanor was a ruse. He thought it was odd the Hokage wanted to see Y/n before patrol. Surely it wasn't another mission already. It couldn't be though because he would of just come out and said it. But he wanted her alone with no one else and Kakashi couldn't help but get a bad feeling in his stomach which made it hard to eat his food. They all talked for about an hour before he left to get ready. He showered and got dressed than cleaned his house up a bit it but even than there was still about an hour to kill so he sat on the couch and began to read. Finding it hard to concentrate because he was a bit excited to finally talk to Y/n after so long.
The blaring in Y/n's dream was so loud she had to open her eye's. She found the noise to be her alarm clock. She groaned knowing that four hour's of sleep was all she was going to get till tomorrow. She went to her kitchen and ate some plain rice. She wasn't sure what it was but only plain rice would satisfy her when she first came back from a mission. After cleaning and dressing Y/n realized she only had twenty minutes to make it to the Hokage's office. Grabbing her bag she ran out the door to the Hokage building. She lit a cigarette on the way unable to hold back a smile as she watched little kids play ball in the street. Couples eating together at a cafe. And just the general peace of Konoha. Y/n had really missed it the past two weeks. She hoped Hiruzen would let her have a break before he sent her back out again. She puffed on her cigarette watching the clouds blow across the serene orange and yellow sky as dusk approached. The breeze was lightly blowing. Y/n wanted to freeze this moment of rare peace never wanting it to end. She walked into the Hokage's building and knocked on his door. She entered after hearing him say come in. He was puffing on his pipe and staring at folder that was red. It instantly caught her eye and for some reason a lump started to form in her throat. He glanced up at her and smiled. But she knew better than to know it was genuine. He leaned back inspecting her. She gave him a cold gaze. Whatever was about to happen she wouldn't break in front of him.
"Well hello my dear. I've been expecting you. As you know I've been letting you work in the Anbu for sometime now but that was just temporary wasn't it? You're skills have much better use to me than keeping you in the black ops unit."
He waited to see if she had something to say but she gave no reaction or reply. He smiled again and continued.
"If you can remember I told you before I needed your skills for a special mission...are you acquainted with Itachi Uchiha?"
She nodded. "Yes sir. He is a distant relative of mine. I know of his skills but have never encountered them. I've never interacted with him actually"
He hummed in response than motioned for her to grab the red folder from him. After she grabbed it and moved back to her spot he spoke again.
"Go ahead and open it. I'll explain a little so you get the gist. It is quite a lengthy read after all."
She did as she was told and the first word's she read were reconnaissance mission. Her head snapped back up to the Hokage's who had a weird glint in his eye.
"My dear I need you to gather intel on him. But not just him there's an organization that he's with as well. They call themselves the Akatsuki. They're a highly dangerous group that seem to move in the shadows so we have no idea where their hideout might be or what they're up to and we need someone of your skill set for this mission. You are an amazing tracker and your Kekkei Genkai is unmatched when it come's to stealth. Can I count on you Y/n? These traders are a huge threat to our way off life. You would be saving million's of lives."
She looked back to the folder, sure she'd accept. It wasn't like she could actually say no anyway's. But something was bothering her.
"Sir how long is this mission?" He smiled widely at her which was very unsettling.
"Only about a year or two maybe." Her mind froze. She stared at him hoping it was all a dream but the longer she stood there and watched him smoke his pipe the more she knew this was reality. And she was going to be going away for awhile.
"Can I choose a team to come with me." She asked in desperation.
"This mission is best suited for a solo Jonin of your skill's a team will only slow you down I'm afraid."
Her eyes stung. She had grown so used to living a normal life and had friend's now...but he was sending her away again. She was too overwhelmed to speak. So Hiruzen took that as yes and singed his name on her mission.
"Alright now that's done you will begin tomorrow afternoon." His word's whipped her back to reality.
"But so soon? Sir I just came back from a mission."
"Are you defying me Y/n?" He asked harshly making her shrink back a little. Her gaze feel to the ground.
"Of course not sir." He relaxed than smiled. "Good. Now if I'm correct you're late for guard duty. You're dismissed. Oh and do remember to close the door."
He waved her off. Y/n stood in front of his closed door shattered. What was she going to tell Kakashi. A feeling of déjà vu came over her as Kakashi was in her position not too long ago. Only her predicament was much more serious. She didn't know how but she was now walking up to the east gate the walk there had been a big blur. Her favorite silver haired ninja was lazily leaning on it waiting for her. Once he heard her walk up to him he bounced back up and flashed his closed eye smile. Her heart grew more and more heavy the closer she got.
"Yo." He said closing the distance. "You were actually late I should have made a bet with you." She gave him a weak smile, but he only played it off that she was tired. He talked to her as they walked along the marked path in the woods. But she didn't hear a word the only sound in her ear's was her own heart beat. Knowing she was going to miss this, him, everyone. The night's of long talks of silly arguments. His reassuring words of kindness. His guidance and companionship. Just the sound of his voice. It was enough to pull her into the dark corner's of her mind. After an hour of Kakashi talking he finally stopped when he realized she wasn't really listening and they fell into silence. He stopped walking once they hit a clearing. Y/n hadn't noticed and ran straight into his back. She looked up holding her nose. Kakashi was just standing with his back still turned.
"What did the Hokage say." She had to hold her breath to keep tear's from coming to the surface. She couldn't speak afraid her voice would break. He turned to her and saw the glisten in her blue eye's as she pulled her knee's into her chest. He was now even more worried than before when she had been ignoring him. He put his hand on her's grabbing it and pulling her up to him in a hug. She couldn't stop the tear's now. And started sobbing into his shirt.
"Y/n what's wrong you're scaring me. You know we can talk about anything right? Just tell me.."
He pleaded with her. But she wouldn't look up and just kept crying into his vest. He cupped her face and made her look at him. Her reddened eye's and tear streaked face almost made him lose it. "What's wrong." She stared into his eye not sure if she could speak the word's out loud...than that would make them real.
"Stop ignoring me and tell me what's going on Y/n." She shook her head and buried her face into his vest again.
"I received a mission.." She didn't say anymore. "And?" He asked impatiently. "I...I have to leave." He still wasn't really following so he waited again for her to explain more.
"I have to go away...for a little while." She felt his body tense and heard his heart raced speed up. "What's a little while?" She swallowed the lump in her throat. "A year or more." He let her go now holding her by her arms tightly the word's ringing in his ear's. His grip was hurting her and she squirmed.
"Kakashi you're hurting me. Let go." "What do you mean you'll be gone a year." She sighed still trying to get him to loosen his grip.
"The mission he gave me is supposed to last a year or more." "Why did you accept it?" He asked her blankly. She finally removed his hands from her and looked up at his face seeing anger rising to the surface.
"I don't have a choice. You know that." He balled his fists. "Do I? Do I know that or do you just enjoy being his fucking bitch?" He stunned her. She never expected that from him. Her sadness was replaced with anger now, how dare he say that when he too was in the same position as her a few month's back.
"Fuck you! You did the same thing I am when he kicked you off the fucking team!" She shouted. "You didn't say a damn thing when he said you were too soft! What did you do about it huh?! Accepted it! Because none of us has a fucking choice in the matter. We really fucking need you and all your doing is bitching about being a mother fucking babysitter!"
Y/n didn't know what he was going to say, he just stared at her his face turning a bit red. She watched as his emotions played out in his eye.
"Well it's not my fucking fault you fell into his hands anyway's! And if you weren't such an obedient fucking slave you wouldn't be getting used like this! I've been here for you and you never listen to what I say! So the thanks I get is you leaving?! And for what to go get fucking kidnapped and tortured again!? You wanna die is that your fucking problem Y/n?"
She didn't say anything. Her mind went blank as she walked up to Kakashi and slapped his face. It wasn't light either. It was cold and hard, unforgiving. Before Kakashi knew it he'd slapped her too. Than it was on.
Y/n threw a kick into his stomach sending him flying into a near by tree. She jumped following his figure than pushed into his body so he'd hit the tree harder. He coughed as she stole the air from his lungs. But he had no time to recover before her fist collided with his face sending him to the ground. He dodged her next kick, tripping her. He grabbed the collar of her jacket than threw her into the air while throwing a very hard punch to her ribs which sent her flying back down to the ground. She it the dirt hard seeing spots as he landed down on top of her breaking a few ribs. He put his face inches from hers.
"Why don't you run home to the Hokage and tell on me." He stated. She hooked her foot with his leg turning them over with her on top she punched his face again causing his cheek bone to bleed. He grabbed her wrist and twisted it as hard as he could till he heard a snap. Y/n screamed out in pain pulling a kunai from her pouch and stabbing his side. He hissed letting her go. She flipped a few feet away from him. Inspecting her broken wrist. She held it against her as Kakashi came rushing towards her with a knife. She just barley missed the blade and tumbled backwards but he was right back at her swinging his knife back and forth. The tip caught her lip slicing it on the right side. She hissed in pain starting to panic so she ran trying to creat a little distance.
"What's wrong Uchiha? I'm I a little too much to handle?" He said throwing several kunai at her. She tried to dodge but her lack of sleep was starting to slow her down. They scrapped across her skin and she placed her hands together just as Kakashi was about to catch her. He seen her eye's glow red and than his body went through her's falling to the floor. He looked up and she smirked at him. "Oh did I mention I can dematerialize my body while visible now?"
He watched as she careful placed her hands together once more and vanished. Kakashi frantically looked around knowing he couldn't keep up with her . Her fist once more landed in the same spot on his jaw. Making him fly backwards. He groaned, knowing more than likely his cheek was broken, but he still stood ready for her.
"Don't be a fucking coward and hide! Face me like a real Shinobi!" This time something hit his stomach knocking him back down he swung his sword around him but hit nothing. His anger was reaching it limits and he wanted to hurt her like she was him. And if he couldn't do it physically he'd do it mentally.
"You're a coward. I don't even know what the Hokage sees in your pathetic ass. You're always jeopardizing our missions and doing whatever the fuck you want any other time. It's not like I wanted to be fucking stuck with you. He forced your sorry existence on me. I only helped you so I could be fucking rid of you faster. Were not even friends. I only stayed with you because I felt pity for you. Poor sorry Y/n. She has a sad past and can't get over it. Now she's a slave to the Hokage who wouldn't dare defy him. I only feel sorry for..."
A sharp prick shut Kakashi up as he looked down to his shoulder seeing a senbon needle sticking out of it. He started to feel drowsy and was having a hard time standing. He knelt to the floor as his vision started to spin. Than Y/n materialized in front of him she took the tip of her shoe and put it on his shoulder gently pushing him down into the grass. He looked up at her to weak to do anything else.
Her body was bloody and bruised. She removed her foot. Kneeling in front of him. He seen the gash on the right side of her mouth. And how bruised, bloodied and cut up her face was. He started to realize what he had just done now that he was coming down from his rampage. But he was too tired to speak his body was so heavy all he could do was look at her. Her eye's were completely empty but had a few tear's in them. And her face showed nothing but pain when she leaned even closer to him just inches from his face. But her expression went blank as she began to speak.
"I see...well... thank you for being honest." Her voice was nothing but a raspy pained whisper. She looked up and brushed the hair out of his eyes shakily and wiped the blood off cheek. He felt something wet hit his face and watched as a few silent tear's rolled down her cheeks. She looked back to him than gave him a small smile
"I'm sorry for inconveniencing you." She continued while stroking his cheek gently. "I didn't mean to drag you into my mess. But even if it was fake...I'm happy to say that I thought you were my friend... for a little while anyway's."
She continued while still sweetly caressing his cheek. Tears continued to stain her face as she calmly spoke to him.
"I understand where your coming from you know. I'm a lost cause and a huge failure. I'm so cold and unforgiving. And all I do is cause problems for everyone around me."
She looked at her watch than stood clumsily. Barely able to move. "I'm so sorry Kakashi. I wish I could give back your wasted time...". She stopped for a moment than swallowed. "I think it's about time I get out of your way."
She started to back away. "That anesthesia will wear off soon. Don't worry." She limped a few more steps than turned again.
"Thank you...for everything sensei..."
Than she turned away from him for the last time tears still in her eye's and slowly walked away. All Kakashi could do was watch her figure disappear into the darkness. He felt tear's slip down his cheek not realizing he was crying too. Than everything went dark.
