Hello everybody.
I started working on this story before 1923 returned and decided to go ahead with posting regardless.
Frankly, I think the Yellowstone fandom could use more variety than just another Rip/Beth story. Don't get me wrong I enjoy the couple but how about some love for other stuff too.
Regarding romantic relationships in the Dutton family, we've got Spencer/Alexandra from 1923.
A case of fine I guess I'll just write some myself.
When Cara Dutton told Banner Creighton that she couldn't wait until meeting her nephew alongside clarifying she meant another one, Banner remained unbothered. Besides John Dutton was dead rather easily, so no need to fret over this other nephew. Plus, had stolen their heard, with plenty of money and backing by Donald Whitfield. Eliminating the entire Dutton family was going to be easy.
Only Banner Creighton regretted underestimating Spencer Dutton. A veteran of the Great War, like James Dutton and Jacob Dutton, were of the Civil War, had that skill set. Plus being a great game hunter in Africa. Using his knowledge of advanced warfare from the war Spencer quickly brought an edge to the remaining Dutton forces.
Another thing about this war was Spencer's wife Alexandra or Alex, may have come from the upper class yet never shied from standing by her husband. In ways beyond Cara, Emma, or Liz, Alexandra directly joins in her husband fighting various sheepherders and Whitfield's men, plus everything else.
"Banner's sheepherders figured out just how dangerous my brother and his wife were on a return trip, and in the coming weeks. Things like the train station became fully in use and the branding of the cowboys occurred during this fight", Elsa notes.
Dirt road in Montana
Spencer Dutton is wearing his usual outfit, and Alexandra for remaining in hers as well. Mind you Alexandra wearing pants caught some stares at the train station, passing people on horses and a few vehicles. Not either really cared while making their way toward the ranch on horses.
"You know I'm glad to see land for miles after our little boat trip became right out of Moby Dick following the dead captain plus the ghost ship problem," Alexandra says.
"Never read it" Spencer replies.
"That is not alarming. Knowing you cowboy probably more interested in the newspaper articles about Wyatt Earp or dime novels of Billy the Kid" Alexandra replies teasingly.
Lightly grinning "I have read Sherlock Holmes," Spencer says.
"Wait, the novel series that began publishing years ago? So, you do have some refined taste after all" Alexandra replies.
Nodding "Grew up reading those, and I am glad Doyle started publishing more. Those Strand Adventures some of my Europe bunk mates got in the mail and would be passed around. One tiny bit of pleasure I allowed" Spencer says in a combination between fond wistfulness and dourness.
Further conversation ends upon seeing three men on horseback riding directly toward them, and noticed all are armed. Normally not a problem yet Spencer and Alexandra note from their body language is hostile.
Both are glad for having their side arms, including Alexandra who was able to find a Colt six shooter on the boat and took to using it to survive upon becoming adrift. Remembering when spied on watching her father teach her brother lessons before being chased out by the maids, then yelled at by her father as teachings not fit "for a woman."
Thankfully horse riding was Alexandra knows causally keeping one hand on the reins while moving the other towards the revolver. Also is thankful for those months spent with her husband who taught her how to use firearms and even knives, alongside other survival skills.
One of varying reasons for loving Spencer is seeing her as an equal in ways most, including even other women, don't. A freedom that was unknown to her. A freedom that would have never been hers had she stayed locked in alongside people such as Jennifer, or Arthur.
Even something as simple when getting back to civilization following the boat ride into hell Spencer in buying clothes never even suggested a dress. When the female clerk tried giving endless dress selections the glare that her husband gave the woman ceased further conversation. Really Alexandra notes sometimes other members of the female species are just as oppressive or more so towards fellow women compared to the men.
"Good morning, can we help you, gentlemen?" Spencer inquiries.
"You are Spencer Dutton are you not, aye mate?" a man replies.
"Apologizes, last I heard that man left years ago to fight in the war, nobody knows where. Think he's long dead. Now if you'll excuse us, we would like to be going" Spencer says calmly.
Frowning "See my brother spent past months in Africa. Ran away from home to be a photographer. We keep in touch. Funniest thing is got a new carry camera. The picture looks much like you, the great game hunter," a man says smirking.
"I was there when your aunt said she couldn't wait for us to meet you. Like your brother you're not impressive" another man adds.
Glancing over "Through your woman is impressive. You can call me Beck, it's one of my names" the third man says leeringly.
Meeting his stare harshly "You can have my dead body" Alexandra replies furiously.
"If that's how you wish to play it," Spencer says icily.
As one of the men goes to draw his rifle rapidly the Dutton veteran draws his Colt 1911 with raising, lining up the sights, and fires sending a bullet into the man's head. The thug slumps over as the panicking horse enters the nearby woods.
Meanwhile, Alexandra gets bucked off her horse landing painfully on the ground which is helpful since it allows a few bullets to miss from Beck's handgun. However, Alexandra is no longer the scared woman reduced to screaming when getting attacked by lions held up in that tree all night, but instead further forged through hell on the boat trip. All the screaming is gone replaced by calmness, and experience.
Letting out a quiet exhale Alexandra pulling the Colt revolver out of the holster lines up the sights pulls the trigger sending a bullet ripping into Beck's chest. Beck lands on the dirt ground while Alexandra standing up walks over. Beck reaches for the gun only for it to be kicked outwards as the would-be assaulter looks up.
"Just who the hell do you think you are?" Beck screams.
"I'm Alexandra Dutton" the woman replies before pulling the trigger sending a bullet into his head.
Another loud cracking sound is heard as Alexandra turns seeing Spencer having picked up the fallen lever action uses it to hit the last herder whose running off. Spencer walks over lining up the sites towards the man who cases crawling to look fearfully at the Dutton.
"Please" the man begs.
Yet it is no use because Spencer pulls the trigger sending a bullet right into the man's head killing him on near impact. Letting out an exhale the Dutton survivor remembers a lesson his Uncle Jacob taught him years ago on a ride gone wrong.
And what they did to the attacking men for stringing them up but how his uncle explained hoping one got away. Merely to let others know to not cross the Dutton family. However, after everything he's lived through Spencer knows is not one for sharing his Uncle Jacob's views.
Hearing footsteps brings Spencer out of his musings when turning to see Alexandra walk over holstering her revolver, and gently takes his hand.
"You okay?" Alexandra inquiries in concern.
"I should be asking you that" Spencer replies.
"Either him or us. I feel like a piece of my soul is gone, left empty but it had to be done. Staying by your side and the freedom I have gained means joining you on this path then very well" Alexandra says.
Leaning in Spencer kisses his wife who returns it eagerly, lovingly, and passionately for a few moments until breaking off. Both returning to their horses climb on the saddle once more.
"Should we bury these men?" Alexandra asks.
"No, it would take forever with just us. I'll send Zane to dispose of the bodies. The government never put a train station in the area years ago from a legal dead zone" Spencer says.
"What about the fingerprinting I read in a magazine for a newest breakthrough by the Bureau of Investigation agency?" Alexandra asks.
"Not overly worried about it at the moment. Far too many people and way understaffed for having their agents collect everybody for a filling system. Some places have trouble keeping a single mail receipt" Spencer replies.
"Good point," Alexandra says, "Let's get moving."
"Yes, mam" Spencer replies smirking.
Alexandra just grins while her husband has a light smile as they proceed to make their way down the road once more towards the Dutton Ranch.
Hope you all enjoyed this and leave a review letting me know what you think.
I see it for Alexandra is not one to remain at the ranch while her husband is off doing Yellowstone work. Rather joining Spencer on horseback right alongside him from working cows to dealing with the latest rich dirt bag's goons.
Besides Alexandra's whole journey is going from a naïve rich socialite into a hardened survivor able to thrive on the Dutton ranch.
So, I wanted to use this story to show much that has occurred.
Frankly, I started watching 1923 for Harrison Ford playing Jacob Dutton and I'm sticking around because of Spencer Dutton and Alexandra.
Not sure if Taylor Sheridan is going this route but I wouldn't mind seeing the first full use of the train station or the Y brand occur under Spencer.
Until next time
