Natasha Ross, President of Panem
Mrs. President, 5 minutes for the broadcast to start- My assistant informs as she enters my office with her tablet, tapping some buttons in the screen, before looking up and smiling at me while my personal avox put a cup of our finest coffee in front of me. I excuse her with a look and turn my eyes to Coral Hargreaves, my lovely assistant for more than 3 years, ever since I started my campaign to run the Capitol.
I get up from my desk and walk towards the balcony of the office, in where my speech will be delivered in front of the whole Capitol announcing the 4th Quarter Quell twist. 98 victors in the past 99 years, most of them loved by the citizens of this city as deities. I take a look outside from the window, directly to the circle plaza that is in front of the president´s manor
Besides the crowd gathering in there, there are 99 golden stands, each and one of them with a flag and the holographic image of one of the past victors. The ones in where the victor is already sleeping under the earth, are in gray scales, with a black tie representing the moaning of the citizens. The ones that are still alive, are in color scales, showing the victor and passing images from the victors in their respective games.
I check some of them, mostly the ones that are for the dead victors. Mags Flanagan, the 11th Victor, who won after drowning four tributes with a net. Brutus Gunn, the emperor victor of the 47th games and that still withholds the record of most killings in the blood bath with 9. The Diamond Twins, Cashmere and Gloss from District one, that won back to back games.
Then we had the sweetheart of the Capitol, Finnick Odair, the winner of the 65th games, one of the youngest victors we ever had. A couple of stands after we have Johanna Mason, the crazy lumberjack of district 7. Annie Cresta was after her, winner of the 72nd games after a damn broke and drowned almost every tribute.
And then we start with the stands that are in color, representing the victors that are still alive. At the beginning, we have the only person that won two games, and consecutive ones, and to be honest, one of my personal favorites, Katniss Everdeen, the girl on fire, the winner of the 74th and 75th Hunger Games. She betrayed not only 1 but 2 of her own district partners to win, and ever since she has become one of the most beloved in the city.
We have a lot more of victors, and since they are the most recent ones, they are the ones that most of our kids look after. Kleo Jocasta, Arthur Tau and Conall Tigg being the ones that have more images from their games, the people gather around their stands to look and remember those specific games.
But at the end, the last stand, belongs to the most complete victor that in my opinion Panem has had. Nikolas Martinho, the Adonis from District 2. The favorite victor for the audience, and…my lover. His games were brutal, and he was even more deathly than normal district two tributes. In the bloodbath he took his own district partner and killed her in front of everyone in the bloodbath. Even though, all the other tributes, from all districts, seem pretty deathly that year. From the District 3 girl that electrified several knives, to the district 10 boy that was able to get ahold of a bunch of mutts and ride them against other tributes.
But at the end, the final battle, between the district 4 boy, Arlo, and Nikolas, was incredible. On top of an active volcano. What it seems like hours of an intense battle, finished by Nikolas putting a dagger in Arlo's hearth before kicking his body to the lava. Then, he felt exhausted and fainted before being declared the winner of the 99th Hunger Games.
Mrs. President? They are waiting mam- Coral's voice takes me back to the present. I nod and walk outside to the balcony, into an incredible and loudly roar from the crowd. I salute them with my hand for a couple of minutes before asking for silence by grabbing the microphone.
People of Panem, I salute you!- I let them roar one more time, with chanting of "Natasha, Natasha" all over the plaza. Then, I keep going- As you know, today is an important day, as today we announce the fourth Quarter Quell!-
For the First Quarter Quell, as a reminder to the rebels that their children were dying because of their choice to initiate violence, every district was made to hold an election and vote on the tributes who would represent them. Leaving us with the famous, and love by everyone, Maris Cord, from District 3. May her soul rest in peace- The crowd scream in euphory as fireworks start to raise from Maris' stand
For the Second Quarter Quell, as a reminder to the rebels that for every capitol citizen, two of them died, instead of two tributes for every district, were chosen four instead, and at the end, with an unbelievable and exciting final, and a unexpected victor, Haymitch Abernathy, From District 12. May his soul rest in peace- Haymitch's stand was in the middle of the plaza, to where the fireworks raise as well.
For the Third Quarter Quell, as a reminder to the rebels that even the strongest among them cannot overcome the power of the Capitol, the male and female tributes were reaped from their existing pool of victors. And everyone remembers how the Girl on Fire, Katniss Everdeen, shoot her last arrow threw Finnick Odair's chest, to become the Victor of Victors- The crowd explodes in excitement as the stand of Katniss from the Quarter Quell floods with fireworks.
I take the envelop with a gold 100 in it and open it in front of everyone, and proceed to read what is inside. I half smile and look forward to the crowd, in where the citizens, along with several cameras sending the signal to all the districts, await for my next words.
As a reminder to the remaining rebels, that their family suffered from their choices in the rebellion, only siblings between 12 and 18 years will be reaped this year for the 100th Hunger Games. One girl, one boy, a sister, a brother. 24 tributes, 1 winner. May the odds be ever in your favor- And with that, I turn and enter the manor once more, leaving the crowd chanting my name and screaming on excitement, and the districts in total silence…
