Last Time:
Sesshomaru's demonic powers flowed through him faster than it had before, as it made its way to his arm it pulsed there and pooled.
Now:
"It looks like it wants to do something." Kagome crawled over. She reached for his arm but froze when he growled. His eyes flashed red and he snarled. "Hold on, let me help."
Miroku moved up closer too.
"Do you know what you need to do?"
"Honestly? No. Like I said earlier, I haven't practiced on demons before!" Kagome's voice broke as she began to panic. She fought the panic down and attempted to focus.
"Try doing your Kie-Chi-"
"Chiropractic." She corrected, "I'll try..." She panicked for another moment but stopped. She took a deep breath and let her mind fall back into the professional mindset she had cultivated over the last few years. "Ok. Watch him, Miroku. I'm going to work on his shoulder to open up his nervous system here and here." She tapped the front and back of Sesshomaru's shoulder. "If he... just stop him..." She didn't have much faith in their abilities to stop Sesshomaru if he attacked.
"Perhaps, your barrier?" He suggested. Sesshomaru was still growling as his eyes flickered between amber and red.
"Oh. The children? Jaken!" Kagome turned and searched for the Kappa. He stood across the field closer to the children, staff at the ready as he watched his master.
"Jaken! I'm going to put up a barrier! Watch the children!" Kagome yelled over.
She could see him grit his teeth and brace his stance, but he didn't say anything. She took that as his consent and pushed her aura out around them. She solidified the barrier.
She turned back to start working on Sesshomaru's shoulder-
"Kagome!" Miroku yelled.
Kagome gasped as she finished turning back around. She dodged backward as Sesshomaru lunged to snap his jaws at her.
"Woah... hold on Sesshomaru!"
"I think he's reacting to your barrier. His energy is fluctuating wildly now."
"Alright, calm now... it's ok. Let me adjust your shoulder, Lord Sesshomaru. You'll feel better after that." She used her calmest voice. The one she perfected when helping children in the past. He stopped moving but kept snarling.
She reached up and shifted her body, so she was angled next to him and got to work. The adjustment took a while, mostly because she had to constantly talk him down and dodge when he snapped at her. She was sweating and panting at the end, mostly because between her aura, Miroku's and Sesshomaru's demonic aura's mixing within her small barrier it was becoming a whirlwind within it.
With one last dodge of his jaws, she pushed her thumb deep within a knotted muscle at the top of ribs, right into the underside of his pectoral. He froze his movements, but his growling grew louder at the pain. She soothed him again, and this time, as she waited for the muscle to give, she knew this would be what he needed.
The muscle gave after a while, and so did he. He slumped over and Miroku guided him to a resting position.
"Keep him on his right side. I think his left side needs to work through- Whoa! What is that!"
The stump of Sesshomaru's arm twitched. It wasn't the whole stump, but the flesh of the rounded end. They watched in fascination as his demonic energy built up there. It swirled, built up more, condensed, swirled again... it went and went until it expanded out from the stump.
"Did... Did his arm just regrow itself?"
"I think so. What did you do?"
"I just opened his nervous system up... and used my spiritual energy to repair the damaged nerves and blood vessels..." She breathed in awe. She reached out to touch the new arm.
"Miko... don't..." Sesshomaru's voice was faint, strained, and he coughed through the words.
"Let's get you comfortable Sesshomaru. You need to rest this off. Knock on the barrier when you awaken."
Miroku and her moved him onto his back and she shuffled his Mokomoko to pillow his head. He growled at her touching the white furred tail and she whispered her apologies quickly. Once they had him situated, she grabbed MIroku's hand and stepped out of the barrier.
Rin, Shippo, and Jaken were sitting around the fire burner waiting for them.
Kagome collapsed next to her bag. Miroku sat next to her and patted his lap. She rolled over and let him help her place her head on his lap. She was exhausted.
"How long will he be in there?" Jaken's normal screech was missing, though his voice was still grating.
"Not sure. He's resting. He used a lot of demonic energy just now. Say, Jaken, are you ok?"
"I! I'm..." He started with a screech but stopped and his form crumbled under the weight of his thoughts. "I've failed Lord Sesshomaru recently and he made me realize how useless I am. I'm considering going back home."
Kagome blinked. She was surprised at his sincerity and the fact he was truthful.
"Master Jaken! No! You can't leave me!" Rin argued with him.
Kagome turned her head as the two of them began to argue.
"You keep looking like that, Kagome, and a man might get the wrong idea." Miroku muttered quietly as he picked up her hand. He began to run the muscles of her hand and wrist once more. They were strained from working on the Demon Lord and his dense muscles.
"You? Don't doubt it. You could never get the right idea if it slapp- uhm... sorry... I meant..." She clenched her eyes shut against the blunder.
"No need to apologize. You aren't wrong. In a way. I really have been better. Doing better. Other than when I joke with you or Sango, it's been months since I've flirted with a female. I doted on her. She had my full attention."
"I... don't remember the last few months. For me it's been a decade. I'm sorry."
"Again, you apologize for something beyond your control. She... asked a lot of me, and I gave it as much as I've been capable. Yet, because I'm human and not perfect, I have flaws and am a man... She didn't want me in the end because I wasn't enough."
"Well, after we leave, you won't be seeing her for a while. While we don't hate them, we need time apart to grow out of our pain." She sighed as Miroku hit a knot.
They were silent as they listened to the children argue with Jaken and Miroku worked to restore her weakened hands.
