The Rosaro Squadron
Prologue / Starry Night
The feeling of my shuttering aircraft engulfed me as I turned sharply, avoiding a spray of machine gun fire. It probably wasn't the best idea to ambush that squadron of Orc night fighters, especially away from my comrades. "Yarde you idiot! Break!" My radio shouted, "No! I need to get a kill! It's been forever since I splashed a bandit!" I responded, it was pitch black and I was unsure of where I was even going. The orc night fighter then opened up, puncturing my fuel tank, "Dammit! These pigs are really something! Hey help me out Tenma!" I shouted as two more Orc planes got onto my tail, "Y-You brought this on yourself idiot! Just bail out! You're over friendly territory!" Tenma replied, "Shut up! Just two more and I become an ace!" I shouted, attempting to make the Orcs overshoot. The two Orc planes from behind me flew past me, giving me a chance to fire. I shot several rounds into the first Orc plane with my cannons. The cannon rounds sent the two engine night fighter plummeting into a nearby farmyard. "Watch out! Ones aiming at you!" Tenma shouted, just as she said that an Orc night fighter shot into my engine, causing it to ploom out black smoke. I could see oil splattering onto my canopy as I unlatched myself from my seat, "Damn you Tenma, you good for nothing little shit!" I yelled, Tenma stayed silent, watching me as I bailed out over the Valdrike landscape.
As my parachute deployed, I saw Tenma's plane disappear into the cloudy night sky as the Orc night fighters fell back. I landed near a small pond, the sound of ducks echoing through the air. "Whew, at least I'm alive… Damn that girl! I wished she was shot down instead of me!" I said to the ducks, the ducks seemed completely uninterested in my bellyaching and turned away from me. As I said that, the sound of a truck could be heard, immediately I recognised who it was. The truck drove into the field, several border guards dismounting, "Find him! He cant have gone far!" A voice said, without a doubt, it was the squadron's Administrator. I hid from behind the pond, ducking under a small incline near its shore. The sound of boots got closer as I tried to think of what to do next, but just before I could think of anything the ducks alerted the guard to my presence. "There he is! The pond!" A border guard shouted, pointing his rifle at me. "Alright… You got me…" I said, slowly standing up with my hands in the air, "Well well Yarde, it appears you've become a bird watcher I see," The administrator said, pointing his pistol at me. "Very funny, so what… Finally gonna do it this time…?" I asked, "I wish that was the case, but I won't need to!" The Administrator said, "Huh? W-What do you mean?" I asked, "You're out of the squadron, you'll be sent to a nearby penal unit… Considering what you've done in the past, it's a fitting fate," The Administrator said. "Y-You can't do that! I'm the best pilot in this dump!" I shouted, "Don't make me laugh! You're just jealous that a seventeen year old has six kills and you don't!" The administrator yelled, "Shut up! That bitch is getting what is coming to her, dozens of Orc fighters are flying around as we speak! They'll take her down in no time!" I proclaimed, the administrator's face scrunched in anger, clenching a fist. "You pathetic traitor! How dare you leave a comrade out to die! A child nonetheless!" The Administrator said, "Oh quit being so modest, Dalner! You knew she was done for from the beginning!" Said, grabbing my dropped knife, "I've heard enough from you! You're sick, take him away! Make sure he doesn't even come by airplane again!" Dalner ordered, "With pleasure sir!" A border guard said as he grabbed me and took me away in their truck, You're definitely getting a court martial for this one! What were you doing with a seventeen year old anyway!" A guard said, another chuckled as I scoffed, "Don't want to admit it huh! Oh well, not that It matters!" A guard said as he stopped the truck, dragging me out feet first. I hit my head twice on my way out, once on the step and once on the gravely dirt. "Aagh! Wait… Prisoners have a right to a formal trial! You can't just shoot me!" I yelled, trying my best to break free. The guards dragged me over to a ditch where they prepared to shoot me. "Wait… I'll do it, you guys go back to the truck… See if you can locate that other pilot…" A female guard said, "Damn… Alright, as you wish… You're dead, you son of a bitch!" The border guard said before driving off.
The female guard then turned to me, her hair was an odd white and her eyes were a light green. She appeared shy, but her demeanor was menacing and authoritarian. "Your really lucky pilot…Despite you being a worthless, pathetic man, you have the golden coin of luck on your side! That being your only redeeming quality, scum!" The female guard said before handing me a map, "Your flying days are over here… You're dead to us, go… Before I castrate you myself!" She said, walking away as I took off. Luck? Me? All my life I was nothing more than a menace, always causing what mayhem I could. As I walked down the dirt road as instructed, I felt a sense of sadness wash over me, "Pathetic scum…" I said to myself, I felt idiotic by letting those words harm me. But the sheer disdain in her voice was strong enough to reduce anything to rubble, "Pathetic, worthless…" I said, become more down trodden by each recounting.
I was scum by every stretch of the imagination, criminal even. In my early years I was a delinquent, my job was to steal whatever was on people's backyards or lawns. It goes without saying that it didn't pay well, so I tried being a Sackman for my boss, that being a human trafficker… I thought this job would be right up my alley, quite literally. But unfortunately that wasn't the case, on my fifth assignment I was given orders to Kidnap a War Profiteer's Daughter. I don't like to get into the details, but long story short, she went through alot of pain to get to her destination. Me being the witness to a whole lot of bloodshed, I could get used to the sight… But the screams… I have no idea what happened to her, but I am almost positive she's dead. She had to have died, especially considering what they had done to her… Tenma's a real bitch!
I looked back at my map, following the path that would lead to a circle drawn on the map. I began feeling sleepy, slowing my pace, but as I was about to fall asleep I came across a bus parked at a bus stop. I ran over to the bus, strangely enough, there was no one on board. But with a thunk, I was knocked unconscious, falling onto my face as everything turned black… When I came back to my senses I noticed that not only was In the same bus, but it was moving and full of people. All staring at me, eager for my introduction. "So, what are you here for…?" A woman said.
