"Wake up"
Fox McCloud sat upright, rubbing the sand out of his eyes and slowly and groggily got out of bed. He noticed a figure in the darkness leave his room, he started to follow the figure until he was outside, the grass feeling cold underneath his furry feet.
"What the hell are you?" He questioned to the figure in the distance.
"The world is in great danger and you need my guidance once more."
"The world has been in danger before, what's the difference?" He said with a tinge of depression.
"Those were carefully orchestrated distractions...like most wars are. Reality has been altered too much to the point of extinction."
"Who are you exactly?" Asked Fox
"I am on a mission to guide you as I did all those years ago."
"Dad?"
Fox awoke in a forest, looking out at the sunset and laughed to himself. "It was all just a strange dream. Wait a minute...where the hell am I?" He thought.
The sound of a car passing by was heard. The car came to a stop and a figure stepped out revealing itself to be Peppy Hare.
"Fox, what are you doing out here?" Asked a very confused Peppy Hare. The vulpine just looked up and started to leave. "Hey where do you think you're going?"
"I dunno"
"Well I think you should come with me, I'll drive you home." Said the elderly rabbit.
The vulpine took the hare's offer and got in the passenger's seat of the car.
"Look my boy, I know her decision has really shaken you up."
The 25 year old just stared out the window, looking at the trees. He preyed that he could see something, anything that could take his mind off the woman who broke his heart.
"You'll get through this! There is many fish-" Peppy said trying to comfort his adopted son.
"Yeah yeah I keep hearing that same damn phrase but you know what it means? Nothing, that's what...I really felt a connection to her...we even supposedly had a love bond! Well I guess that was all a big fucking lie!" Fox sarcastically laughed to himself.
"Fox"
"Don't Fox me Peppy!" The young Fox snapped
"I can't believe it! Wolf and his gang of cronies actually won, I hope they are happy with themselves because I sure ain't."
"Fox I need to tell you something and you better listen to what I'm about to say."
"It's not fair that Falco gets to be with Katt! You know how many mistakes he makes daily with her and how much of an asshole he is! I make one mistake and she basically becomes this vengeful monster who disrespected my FATHER'S LEGACY! To top it all off she goes with the guy who is the most likely candidate to fuck her and then leave her immediately when he either gets bored of her, finds a new 'hotter' chick, or he impregnates her!"
"Fox, dammit! Listen to me! my son we all make mistakes and believe me I have made a lot of mistakes that I can't take back!"
"Like what? What could you possibly have done?"
"I wasn't a big part in Lucy's life especially after Vivian's death, It still haunts me to this day. I feel like I failed the both of them."
"Peppy...you did what you had to do...to stop Andross."
"I suppose when you look at it that way" Peppy chuckled.
Fox drifted off to sleep, the car then rolled up to a driveway and stopped at a house. Peppy shook Fox to wake him up. They then proceeded to exit the vehicle. Peppy fumbled with the keys.
"Darn it come on" He said impatiently while trying to get the lock open.
"Here let me try gramps." Said Fox as he turned the lock and it opened.
"You just got lucky." Said Peppy grumbling
"Hey I need it." Said Fox. Peppy smiled at his remark.
"Anyway, I'm going to be in my room. I guess I'll see you later." He said as he walked to his room, stopped while staring at the bathroom door.
"Now is not the time my son."
"Have you returned just to mock me for my failures as everyone has."
"No I have returned to guide you"
"I have nothing left to live for, the love of my life is gone forever with a narcissistic prick. I have no purpose! Nada! Nothing! My existence is meaningless! Meanwhile, Krystal is having the time of her life with Star Wolf and that cat bastard! I really fucked up! I caused a sweet, kind, caring individual like Krystal to turn into a cold, vengeful, and narcissistic monster! All because I made the absolutely stupid and rash decision of giving into fear!"
"What if I told you that you do have a purpose?"
"I would probably scoff as you're a figment of my imagination."
"I know deep down you know that isn't true my son."
"..."
"What if I told you that your so-called girlfriend wasn't supposed to exist at all?"
"Don't be ridiculous."
"What if I told you that your so-called ex-girlfriend wasn't actually the person she claimed to be."
"You're fucking with me in fact I think this is just one big hallucination to cope with my failures as a well everything."
"No I am not fucking with you. Now pay attention to what I have to say and stop wallowing in your own self pity."
"Fine I'll hear you out...I can't believe I'm doing this."
"Have you ever noticed anything off about your ex? Something that seemed odd or 'not like her'?"
"Well she said that Andross' intentions were pure and that my judgement is clouded because of your death. She also supposedly has telepathy but she acted like she forgot it at some points like the day we broke up and especially the day she left Star Fox to be with that wretched slimeball. Now that I think about it, it's almost like she had some sociopathic tendencies as she lacked empathy on a few things."
"I see and did it ever strike you that this version of Krystal could be an imposter?"
"Well no I mean-"
"Think about it, she looks different from the Krystal you knew. Some subtle differences and some not so subtle. Her conveniently forgetting she has telepathy? You don't just forget those things Fox."
"If she's the imposter then where is the real one?"
"That information I do not know unfortunately but we need to focus on the task at hand."
"That being?"
James caressed his son's face which triggered images of a Cerinian dagger, death and destruction of entire worlds and universes.
"You see? We need to act fast before reality collapses. You need to kill her before it is too late." Fox broke down sobbing. "Please..."
"It must be done my son, there is no other option I'm sorry."
"But what if she's the real Krystal? What if I really fucked up our relationship?"
"You know deep down that is not true. You show empathy which is a good thing but in these types of situations a lack of empathy is needed."
"Please guide me as you did with defeating Andross all those years ago."
"That is why I am here, my son. To extinguish the pure evil from not just the lylat system but from reality itself."
