Kaladin splurged on stormlight, and flew to Zora's Domain. Impa had marked that the major city of the region was close to a divine beast.
Sadly, he ran out of stormlight at the base of a canyon, just below a sheikah tower. The light had been almost gone anyway. He managed to evade some lizard things Zelda called 'lizafoes', long enough to make it to the top, and activated the tower. He spotted a shrine from up top, and glided over to it. He met quite a few fish people while doing so, (who were probably Zora) and all of them directed him to the bridge nearby. Some prince was looking for a Hylian.
A tall, red, fish person was indeed waiting for him-on top of the bridge. He then did a backflip off of it, after noticing Kaladin coming towards him.
"Hello there, Hylian!" The fish person said with exuberance, flashing a brilliant smile. "My name is Prince Sidon. At the moment Zora's Domain is experiencing a relentless downpour that threatens to flood Hyrule. Please, we need the help of a warrior like you."
Kaladin had no idea what was going on, but he was always willing to lend a hand. Never mind the fact that Prince Sidon somehow just assumed that he could fight, and was correct. This land got stranger everyday.
"What's the problem?"
"Vah Ruta, our divine beast, has been causing this unearthly rain. You'll have to follow me back to Zora's Domain to the beast. But I am sorry to say that the cliffs are impassable. You'll have to take the long route, along this path, which is fraught with danger and monsters. But, I have faith that you will succeed in this endeavor. I will go ahead to make sure that there is nothing strange. I'm counting on you." With that, Sidon flashed another smile, and jumped off the bridge into the river below.
"Storms. I guess we just have to follow. Even though there are a lot of lizafoes and enough rain to be considered the weeping. Too bad I can't swim all that well. The river looks like an easier route," Kaladin said to Syl.
Syl flew forward. "I'll race you then. Last one to Zora's Domain is a pile of chull poo."
Kaladin and Syl climbed over rocks, avoided lizafoes, and hurried to the next bridge.
Sidon flashed another smile from the water. "Good job, only six more bridges to cross."
He dove back in, and Kaladin trudged on. As if getting to the first bridge wasn't hard enough, he had to cross it to six more? He regretted using up the last of his stormlight at that moment. But he pressed on. Soon he and Syl were crossing the last bridge into the city proper. Sidon had smiled and shouted words of encouragement the entire way. It didn't really work on Kaladin, but he could tell that the prince probably had a following somewhere, if he really was always that happy. He was an easy fellow to like.
Sidon was waiting for Kaladin and Syl at a statue at the center of the city. It seemed to depict a young Zora, maybe one of their people's heroes?
Sidon noticed Kaladin and said,"Congratulations on making it all the way here. I knew that you could, of course. My father will explain some more. The throne room is this way." Sidon hurried off and Kaladin followed.
Kaladin walked into the throne room and bowed to the Zora on the dais. A green Zora hurried out of the room at the sight of Kaladin.
The Zora said,"You must be the Hylian Sidon was just telling me about. I am King Dorephan, leader of the Zora." A strange cry echoed in the air. "Vah Ruta is growing more erratic everyday. If she isn't quelled soon, our reservoir will flood all of Hyrule. My advisor Muzu was going to collect shock arrows so we could appease the beast. Except he just ran out. Do you mind talking to him for me?"
"No problem."
Kaladin found Muzu at the base of the statue of the Zora, in a heated argument with Prince Sidon. He didn't really want to intrude, but the king had asked.
Muzu was saying,"It isn't safe for Zora to collect shock arrows but I said I would do it. Instead of working out another solution, you brought back someone from a different species. And a Hylian, no less! I won't do it. If Hyrule floods it won't affect us. Besides, the Hylians deserve it."
Sidon clearly wanted to counter, but Muzu seemed set in his ways. Kaladin stepped in.
"I'll go get the arrows. That way nobody will be in danger."
"I know you mean well Kaladin, but it isn't about that. Muzu here just doesn't want a Hylian getting involved. He's still bitter about our princess Mipha's death, and rightly so," Sidon said with a dejected shake of his head.
Muzu vehemently said,"It was that Hylian's fault that Mipha died. If he hadn't convinced her to risk her life and pilot a divine beast, she never would have fallen prey to Ganon's cunning. Mipha was the best of our people, kind, brave and gentle. That Hylian took away her opportunity to spread more of her goodwill. I want nothing to do with another of his kind."
"I don't want to get in the middle of a century old feud, but I'm not a Hylian, technically speaking," Kaladin said. "I'm from another planet, called Roshar. My people have no history with yours. Besides, I don't want any glory. Frankly, I'd be happier if you wrote me out of history. Give the credit to Sidon, or you or whoever. Where are the shock arrows?"
Muzu explained the beast that had the arrows was called a lynel, and how it was vicious. It lived on Polymus mountain. Muzu still seemed reluctant to send Kaladin.
"I'm more than willing to let you go, but I do not wish for your death. How do I know that you can really face such a beast?"
"Give me five minutes please," Kaladin said, sighing. Seems like he'd need to visit the demon statue again after all.
Kaladin teleported to Hateno village, talked to the demon statue, refilled his spheres, and teleported back. Turns out that it really did only want rupees. The stormlight was plain old stormlight too. It hadn't played some nasty trick on him. He still didn't feel terribly comfortable trading with the statue all the time, but Kaladin figured it was okay every once in a while.
Using the stormlight from his spheres, Kaladin floated a few feet, and then gently dropped to the ground.
"I've yet to meet anybody who can fly after a fashion here. I'm an accomplished fighter in my world, and I can heal from almost all wounds instantly. It's a long story. I promise you won't find anyone more qualified. I'll get your arrows." Kaladin didn't like showing off, but Muzu seemed to appreciate the display, evident by the way he nodded.
Muzu said,"That was certainly something. I'm sure you'll do just fine against the beast. Sidon will take you up the mountain. Be careful."
